@qmitch2 To be fair as I always attempt to be. Mitchell wasn't all at fault for the 10-20 loss to the Bucs. But the Eagles massacre he shares the Lion's share of the blame. He threw so many interceptions (2 that were returned for touchdowns) and it was just embarrassing. What is sad, is that I'll take an all around slaughter in the playoffs just to see the Lions in the playoffs again.

@tane8484 I wonder would feel the same way if '95 didn't happen? What did he do in '96, '97, or '98? I can named tons of Lions QB's better than him. KRAMER, KRIEG, FREROTTE, KITNA, PEETE, BATCH. Not to mention STAFFORD. Mitchell choked in key games & threw crucial INTs. Herman Moore made that man.

Scott Mitchell Got them to those key games. Something I haven't seen since. That 95 season was my first year watching football, and therefore sticks out to me. I'd Put Mitchell over any of those other guys other than Stafford. I was 11 in 95, and 12,13,14 in the other years. maybe those years don't stick out to me as much as the first one.

I agree with you on Millen... the Charlie Batch / Ty Detmer situation was a debacle and smacked of racism. Detmer threw 7 picks in a game and started the next game... Unacceptable.

Millen and Mornhinweg also forced out Herman Moore that season even though he was ready to return from his hip injury.

That said, in 3+ seasons as a Lions starter, Mitchell's Lions made the playoffs 3 times. Batch made the playoffs once. Scapegoating Mitchell was a bad move by Ross.

Twice. And Mitchell showed his greatness by throwing interception after interception when the Lions got raped by the Eagles 58-37 (being down 7-51 at one time) I still say in Erik Kramer we should've trusted...he could win playoff games.

Well... Kramer has one playoff victory with the Lions.... as well as two losses. The first playoff game against the Packers, which Kramer started, was a very good game though, and Kramer played pretty well. If you watch the game, Herman Moore had a huge drop near the end of the game on a good pass by Kramer.

Kramer always stepped it up in the playoffs...he did throw a very costly interception in the endzone, but aside from that he was consistent. The Redskins championship game, it really wasn't Kramer's fault, the Redskins were just awesome. The difference between Mitchell and Kramer, was that Kramer was a teamplayer, only had really one awful game as a Lion (San Francisco) Mitchell on the other hand was inconsistent and brought the morale of the Lions down in 96 with his fallout with Fontes

Much as it pains me... (Stafford I think will be better but he'll be the next Eric Hipple if he doesn't get an O-line) I have to actually concur. Batch was always injured and everyone else was horrid. Still I'll take Erik Kramer over Mitchell anyday...

my favorite quarterback in lion's history... that man holds all the single season records for a reason... if they'd have had even a respectable o line or defense back then, they'd have won a super bowl... good guy as well, i met him a couple of times at SVU at training camp...

This commercial had to have been edited heavily. I'm sure ALL of those passes were intercepted & run back for touchdowns. It's been 10yrs & I still hate that man.

Then there's the CBS commentator after Mitchell heaved the ball to a Bengals player while practically on his back:

Another average at-best QB in the sorry past 50 years of Detroit Lions football.
