I didn't get the question the first time. But yeah, just as I thought, dara has no real meaning. It's a set phrase. Don't think of SHINAI as a separate part here. It's ONE word.
Well, I guess だらしない would be used as one word...even though しない is normally used separately since it's a form of する you know? Or do I have that wrong? (Thanks to NCIS, my mind's not fully there lol)
lol man you got me on "you don't want a bunch of little high school girls telling you this" XD Awesome lesson, ah btw wasn't there also a saying with bed hair like ねむ毛 or something?
What were those ldies doing with Tolokyo? Is he that smooth?

Is it offensive if you use those phrases with friends?
AjikanPanda 2 years ago
Not at all - they're pretty common.
My students are really well-mannered Japanese O-jyou-sama (high class young girls), and they used it with their teacher. :P

doesn't the "sinai"-part make the word a negativ? so wahat does "Dara" mean mean? Good-looking? or was I wrong about the first part?

Interesting question...actually I never thought about it. It's just used as a set phrase, so I never asked what Dara means on its own. Anyone know?

You have that right. It's just a coincident.

ねむ毛 doesn't ring any bells...thinking about the pronunciation it sounds like 眠気, which is sleepiness. Not sure what bed-head is called in Japanese...
ToLokyo 2 years ago
Maybe Ido is thinking of 寝癖?
Gimmeaflakeman 2 years ago
I think that's it: ねぐせ

Thanks for the compliments guys. ^^
Thought after having seen Victor with a mohawk, I'm sure I can never compete with him in style. :P
Never been called an otaku before. Seems like anyone who knows the word must be a bit of one themselves, no?
ToLokyo 2 years ago
Oh, I've just outed myself as a otaku, oh no!
I prefer to think of myself as the American division of The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture (aka Genshiken)
LOL!

Mecha means something like: EXTEMELY.
Some examples are :
Mecha = Very = Extremely
HaxorLee 2 years ago
HaxorLee,
Slightly different.
The mecha that means messy, sloppy, slovenly have common forced-Kanji, 目茶 or 滅茶。
The mecha or usually meccha is always written in hiragana and means like totally extremelly, dude.
