Hey, From Bmt.Tx....The Golden Triangle Should have given her more love back in da day...I have always loved her music....haven't we all tried to sing it.....that sound does't come easy baby....
@MultiBrain17 How old are you? I am 58 and from that generation. Anyone part of the Hippie revolution and that time was not caught up in ethnic or color lines. At our LOVE INS race did not matter men and women had lovers wives and or girlfriend of all races. It was part of our culture to LOVE without Prejudice. We looked at you heart what was on the inside not the outside.Janis did also!!!!!!
@MultiBrain17 Are you Kidding!!!!!!! Jimi Hendrix was her idol. She was the most pure spokes woman of her time. She was a true Hippie in all aspects ,to her like to all of us from that generation there were no color lines. LOVE-INS and our life syle crushed all prejudice. We did not care who you were it was what was inside your soul we cared about. From an aging Hippie who Misses those times of LOVE & COMPASSION to all !!!!!!!
@itoldyousoisaid What is that suppose to mean!!! I am not afraid of war or rumors of war! Because besides being an aging Hippie I am also a Christian. My hope is not in this world. Most of the Hippies I know are today Christians. We still believe in Peace LOVE , Equal Rights for All, an end to poverty.an end to Incest and the sex slave market. We have just grown up !!!!
@itoldyousoisaid Yes you do have to stand up for your beliefs but you also have to be willing to lay down your life for your brother. The same is true today as yesterday words of LOVE and Compassion dont mean much if you dont reach out to others in acts of service not worring about your needs.Get involved to make a difference by volunteering in a cause you have a passion for and fight for those who cant!!!!!!
@Larry731000 I'm fighting for mankind every day and i agree to lay down your life is the ultimate sacrifice.. Here's the thing though MOST people don't know who the REAL enemy is.. do you?
@itoldyousoisaid Yes I do. As I indicated before I have been a Christian since 1987. I have been with mission teams spreading the gospel in other coutries. I Am currently finishing up my studies to be a childrens pastor.Alot of us old Hippies turned to Christ And are now spreading the Gospel of Jesus around the world
Janis foi a rainha!!! cantava muito. seria bom se estivesse por aqui cantando e encantado com a sua voz linda. Eu só tenho 35 anos e curto demais as músicas dela.
totally loved her she was my idol growing up just like her i had whiskey in one hand and doob in the other and i was getting it while i can hahaha she was awesome Happy Birthday love ya girl
She makes me cry like a little baby... just bawl my eyes out... it's not freaking normal to be able to do that to someone in like ten seconds... how can that much power and vulnerability coexist in the same person's voice/soul/being?
Im only 12, but I dont (like any other kid) listen to that crappy music that's in the radio, but I listen to the "old" classics! Thumbs up for the music!
When I was a teen in the 1960s, I was madly and passionately in love with Janis Joplin (by the time I'd reached 20 it became evident that it's better to be in love with someone you could actually go out on a date with :-) This is one of the best interpretation of a blues song ever. I saw her in live performance four times, and I cherish the memory.
to bad she was in so much emotional pain.Janis could sing the blues with the best of them.thanks Janis for leaving us with such great songs along with youre voice.which you put everything into youre songs.
god why couldn't I have been alive when this was current music :(. I get to have the crap like lady gaga and katy perry, we need more singers like Janis
I echo another comment: Time's have changed. But that doesn't mean the great counter-culture movement of the 60's and early 70's will never come back. Personally, I feel the world is ripe for a resurgance of peace, love, unity, environmental awareness...That's just me. But I truly believe it's going to happen again. There are many new generation hippies as well as old generation hippies. ;) They're just more spread out all over the world.
@NewGenerationHippies i am a child of the 60'sand70's..it was the best time of my life! Janis was the Greatest singer of all time. second was Tina Turner. you can't get any better than that! bring back the hippies..

Now I understand how Steven Tyler felt when he heard this song for the first time...This is so powerful! It's almost like some kind magic! Long Live Rock N'Roll
@sailorydo "After seeing Janis, it almost seemed like you'd come from raise-the-tent, raise-your-spirit Pentecostal Holy Roller revelation-type thing. It was that kind of mind altering sound. Some people had the ridiculous idea to compare lady gaga to Janis.....Janis was nothing short of amazing, her music was her and no one living or dead sang with more passion and pain....lady gag steals from Bette and Madonna then calls it her own....Pearl is a legend.....
@PapaLesPaul ok, for the last time...your age isn't important, you can't represent an entire generation with your music tastes...I mean, it's brilliant ok...I'm young too, but I don't think I'm better than the other guys just for my music taste... Don't wanna be offensive, and don't wanna judge you! :)
Damn, what an INCREDIBLE voice. People will still be listening to this long after many of todays' "musical artists" are long gone and nothing but a distant memory.
No one could be more amazing in person. to see her show up at a huge music event, like Devonshire Downs, in her little blue Snow suit, like a Russian Princess. you just can't understand, if you weren't there.
@yoko59lee youre from the 60s but you should be tied to a chair and forced to drink apple juice for a week!! THIS IS JANIS FKN JOPLIN. Show some respect! Leave Amy Crackhouse out of this.
Ahhh, now I remember when there was real rock and roll. Feh, there isn't even any real music today, hasn't been for 20+ years now. Thanks for the reminder, Janis. RIP.
Janis, it would be easy to blame you that you took yourself out of us that soon.. But maybe you wouldn't be who you were without having these intentions.. so everything is forgiven.
having said that, i don't approve heroin it's truly bad for most people. After all it cuts both ways and like everything addictive it's very dangerous. It can make you and the people around you miserable and posses you but some of the greatest art is made under it's influence. Happiness and misery are equally good in terms of art. I just don't like how people degrade it and never think about it's essence (like so many other things) it was thought to be the greatest medicine ever invented once.
mind that without heroin and the other shit she did to get her kicks she would never do what she did musically. Drugs are a catalyst, they are an experience and art is an interpretation of experience. It's the same with love. Heroin is a great part of the pain in her voice. It kills but life kills anyway. The more you live and think and experience the more you kill yourself. And that's why people tend not to do these things cause of their survival instinct and fear of death.
She injected a street mix that was normally about 3% pure, but on this occasion was nearly 40% pure. Eight other people died from an overdose of the same mix. Heroin is identical to morphine in its effects, and is actually slightlly less addictive, but when you demonize it and make it illegal, then it becomes a dangerous game of Russian roulette rather than a pain-killing opiate
Yes she has a lot of power in that voice!!!!
