I think you're forgetting that when Rossi went to Yamaha, they were far from being the best team. He left Repsol Honda during the peak of their climb to ride for Yamaha, which many experts at the time thought was absolutely crazy.

Yamaha was nearly the weakest team of them all and it took Rossi a while to make them Number one, too ;o) But he did it quite well I think. Rossi is the best driver of all times...No Schwantz or anybody has his abilities. You have to see that nowadays bikes are much more complex than they have been in the 90`s...and the good competitors for #1 grew in numbers...now we have 5 Top riders!!! (Colin on another bike)

MotoGP needs more bikes. Cheaper bikes. Reasonable rules. Better managers. More spectacular tracks (and with spectators - not like that desert parody in Qatar - bring back classical European circuits!!!). And courageous riders (not like Pedrosa or whiny Stoner after Laguna Seca). Then it will be OK. Follow WSBK example - that's some real spectacular racing (although year without Brands Hatch :-( ).
