  • what about liam neeson if there is a remake?

  • @tranurse

That could have worked...if only Liam hadn't done "The A-team"

  • We need someone like this in Washington!

  • the greatest generation

  • Great montage. True, Edward Woodward was irreplaceable, but I could see someone with his tough, intelligent finesse stepping into the role, perhaps as the original's son. Daniel Craig

might fit the bill. The Robert McCall character is an older James Bond who's left "the company."

  • Maybe a part like this could interest Clive Owen. Rest in peace, Mr. Woodward.

  • Edward Woodward and realistic writing made this easily the best action show of the '80s. His usually grim and businesslike demeanor, against criminals of all levels, was what people actually wanted against that long-running crime wave in the USA. To have him be an older man, and British, and ex-CIA, was also what made this series so memorable and open to plot variations. Throw in that nice Jaguar, a gritty and hard-pounding opening theme, and all watchers knew that they were in for a good ride.

  • No one could ever have pulled off the character like Woodward did!

  • The Paladin (Have Gun, Will Travel) of the 20th Century

  • I can't see anyone replacing Edward Woodward in this outstanding role. He was this role! One of my favorite shows of all time!!

  • I always respected the fact that Edward Woodward did at least 95% of his owns fight scenes.

  • One of the World's greatest actors.A consumate professional.

  • r=there's just something about putting peoples heads through windows that you just can't argue with.

  • I remember this! Awesome show. He was like Jack Bristow from Alias before Jack Bristow existed!

  • Damn, old dudes use to kick ass back in the 70's and 80's, now the're all rollin Hover rounds lol

  • What about Rutger Hauer as The Equalizer ? Played some tough &bad guys on screen. Like to see him in more films. Sean Bean or Liam Neeson. Gabriel Bryne would also be a good choice

  • @Mrjenshusband

yea i rememeber when cbs was cool i think it was on sundays at 9 or something...or tuesdays?...i remember this show and wiseguy lol....

  • OMG he died???? wooooow imagine he would have been surprised by such a (young) huge amount of fans.....i went to my local library and found season 1...i never really got to see the show from beginning to end because i never got time, my dad used to watch it though...i remembered flicking on the A&E channel when it was on, I used to looove the theme song, and still do....he is cooler than any character today even the law and order svu group wouldnt be as tough as him....:( awesome show so smart!

  • Love that line at the end!!! What a great show that was!!

  • it is nice to see so many american friends with good memories of edward woodward - very underated over here - as a gesture in return , i can assure all you americans that i deeply miss peter falk as columbo - i have seen every episode - rip sir - one more thing ....... sherlock holmes ??? nah - columbo is the best tv detective ever - irreplaceable.

  • either sean bean, liam neeson or....rob schneider! seriously tho, has to be bean or neeson or as an outside bet pierce brosnan. actually, thinking bout it brosnan wud make a damn fine equaliser.

  • I loved this show! And i'm sure That Edward Woodward the man could kick 9 colours of shit out of any 80's TV or movie tough guy!

And if they do make a movie it has to be Sean Bean as the Equalizer.

  • Class, style, poise, confidence. Great character, fabulous portrayal. Add the exciting theme music and the video clips, no wonder you have a good tribute.

  • Wow...forget Seagal....this guy kick a** (actually....I love Seagal)...but....this show was one of the originals.

  • "Please don't do anything you will never live to regret"

  • Rumor has it that "The Equalizer" is coming to the big screen...unfortunately, with Edward Woodward passing away, he won't be able to be in the film that made him a big TV star in the 80s...however, I could see Sean Bean ("Goldeneye", "The Lord of the Rings") as McCall in the movie adaptation!

  • @CesMan83 There's a rumour that Russell Crowe wants to do it. Not sure I'm convinced he could pull off the "yeah, you could try that, but I'd kill you in the most horrible ways imaginable" confidence of Edward Woodward.

  • @DracIsBack I would hope Liam Neeson can play the part since he did a bad ass job on Taken.

  • @xxpandamidknightxx Exactly!!

  • @DracIsBack he might could. jason stathem maybe too. i don't know, it won't be edward wodward, so i'm gonna reserve judgement.

  • @tranurse or harrison ford. or robert redford.

  • @DracIsBack Agreed. Liam Neeson or Michael Caine maybe?

  • @CesMan83 Sean bean could pull it off, but after seeing Liam Neeson in Taken, I think he should be first choice!

  • @settlebrrd

I think you're right, dude...Neeson would be WAY better than Russell Crowe!

  • @CesMan83 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I don't need Hollywood raping ANOTHER part of my childhood. Leave shows and movies from the 80's alone. Leave the 90's alone too, think of something new Hollywood.

  • @badbook1

Sad but true, dude. I'm an aspiring screenwriter myself, and if I ever get far in the movie biz, I'll set up a no-remakes clause for myself against the studios!

  • @CesMan83 Hollywood needs a new bunch of writers and directors to come in and take Hollywood over. Because all the people there now do is make remakes and Movie2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, etc, etc, etc. Hope you make it there, just remember what you said "no remakes clause!" GOOD LUCK!!!!

  • @badbook1

Thanks, man. I'm hard at work with a few scripts now. Admittedly, creating something completely, purely original is quite hard these days (unless if you're a radical like Charlie Kaufman). I say, though, who cares if what I write seems derivative and reminiscent of other people's material in style or story-wise? As long as I do create something that's otherwise completely mine, and a blatant remake of someone else's work!

  • @CesMan83 amen

  • @CesMan83

Damn, a typo in there somewhere...I meant to write "NOT a blatant remake of someone else's work!"

  • @CesMan83 Sean Bean would be awesome!

  • I absolutely loved this show. My favorite quote; after he gets praised by someone he has helped........"I am only what I appear to be, nothing more." RIP Edward Woodward.

  • @k9forkids The Equalizer was anything but a girlyman. Woodward did such a good job in the role that it sometimes felt like he'd could go up against Tubbs and Crocket, Starsky and Hutch, Ponch and John, Thomas Magnum and the lot ... and leave them bloody twitching pulps.

  • What an amazing Actor. Edward Woodward, you will be really missed. God Bless.

  • Loved this programme.

  • Wel done, sir...I'm old enuff to luv this...thankyou very much, ma man!

  • That's one hard-core, blue-haired old man!

  • Aw, did not know, that looks like a good show.

  • Every scene where there is glass breaking is so fake. Very 80's like. Ahh.....those were the days.....when we just believed without questioning. Makes me laugh.....ha ha ha! :D

  • i got series one and a christmas special one on avi, i watch em now and again, they remind me of when i used to watch them when i was young,,even tho i know its unrealistic,.its still great, ..............Robert McCall, is Mr Manhattan

  • They way he brought them all down classic stuff

  • BELLE HOMMAGE, DOMMAGE QU'ILS NE L'ONT PAS FAIS A LA TELE

  • SUPERBE LA VIDEO D'EQUALIZER

  • "Times up, throw him out of the window!" FUCK!!!! No one was harder than The Equalizer. I can't wait for the movie version!

  • @chewgrind. That is gangsta!

  • @1977Melville Lol, cheers

  • China Rain was my favorite episode. To have people help you and risk their lives and they don't even know you. It might be fiction but it sure made you feel good.

  • Really good show!

  • screammmmmmmmmmm

    Roberttttttttttttttttt

  • loved this show when i was a kid , especially because EW was in Who Dares Wins :) i also think that as TV Themes go The Equalizer was up there with the best

  • wow this brings me back I was just a kid when this was on. a lot of the guys at work won't even be old enough to remember this.

  • I'm waiting for the picture with Russell Crowe with impatience.

  • This bloke is tough!

  • The most underrated action series ever! Edward Woodward had the perfect balance of sensitivity, toughness, and class rolled into one! He was a small screen Bond with a pizazz that had substance. "The Equalizer" would have been a 10 year hit had it not been for Mr. Woodward's heart attack. But this series will forever live with the fans it has made and the impact he made in a short time! RIP Edward you will be missed by myself and the legions of fans you made worldwide. You are the BEST!

  • Truly the Hardcore Clint Eastwood, only with a British Accent!!!!

  • Nice tribute... but definitively too short!

  • RIP Edward, I will always love you deeply. ;_;

  • The Equalizer was a breath of fresh air after the "too much violence on TV" claims of the late seventies. The networks listened to the critics to such an extent that the action in television shows was watered down to the point of near non-existence. The Equalizer, Airwolf and McClain's Law, to name a few, were a thumbed nose at the critics. Edward Woodward was a dynamic and classy actor.

  • @kurtb8474 Sadly it had a short run, but--boy! What a show! I loved it from the beginning. Edward Woodward--nobody like him!

  • @bartonim I don't know about a "short run". In television today, four full seasons is typically not considered short lived. :-)

  • @DracIsBack Well, consider how long Bonanza ran, for example. It was criminal The Equalizer didn't do a good decade. But I see your point, which makes mine all the more strong! Ha! Anyway, it was a great show. I suspect you were a fan too, so it's cool commenting!

  • @bartonim Compared to Bonanza or Simpsons, everything is "short lived". But equalizer, at four seasons, had an ok run! :-)

  • Best Show of the80's!

  • If they do a movie version of this show let it be Ross Kemp.

  • I loved watching Equalizer and Quincy on A&E because they were so hair triggered. They should bring back that programming block. Now all they show is "reality" shows....how lame.

  • Total classic. Both the man and the show. When are we going to get season 2 on DVD? They released season 1, and then nothing. It's too bad there aren't more good guys on TV like McCall out to help people. Too many anti hero types now days.

  • Rest In Peace, SIR Edward Woodward (should be posthumously knighted).

  • He was a real man.

  • It's baffling how all these crap tv shows get released on dvd but no proper dvd treatment for The Equalizer.

  • Time's up ! Throw him out the window !

  • Jack Regan vs. Robert McCall--wonder who would win?

  • @Melville10 McCall would, he was ex-Intelligence, Regan was tough, but he wasn't professionally nasty like Robert.

  • @Prod1Kh I don't know...Regan is a dirty bastard at times.

  • Hey i checked some details the character of Robert Mc call was born in the script NOV 16TH 1933, and Edward Woodward himself died as we all know NOV 16 TH 2009,Iwas just browsing on one of the related websites,i feel this was one of Edwards best characters, but i dont know if anyone else thinks this is a very strange coincidence,i did......RIP Love you always Edward xx

  • He was exceptional, and to think that CBS didn't want him to cast this role, they wanted Robert Culp instead, gratefully, the show's creator talked these morons out of that move. I bought season one of "The Equalizer" a month ago.

Incredible series, Mr. Woodward was an incredible performer, both he and the show were one of a kind..."BamBam9212" sums up the show's essence perfectly...

Vastly underrated series, if you ask me...

    Great tribute, "Drac!"

  • Please don'tdo anything that you will not live to regret". CLASSIC LINE {;-DDD

  • Nice Tribute Mate

  • "Throw him out the window"

Wow, this guy is better then Jack Bauer.

  • Bauer will be hitting the unemployment line....Fox canned 24---large budget, declining ratings, and creative fatigue.

  • Dang, it´s like James Bond meets Dirty Harry. Robert McCall FTW

  • "Please don't do anything you'll live to regret"

    Class line.

  • Yeah this was a pretty good show.I bought season 1 on dvd..no original music though. Why do they do this?To make money people...you gotta spend it.

  • @ocelotrevs It´s "Please don´t do anything you will never live to regret"

  • Ahh yeah, I forgot that part.

    Cheers.

  • You can't find shows like this anymore. Not alot of special effects, but still able to keep your attention. Different show every week, not the same old rehashed plot week in an week out. And most of all actors who take the part and become the part.

  • If they make a movie, which I hope they won't but if they do, Ciaran Hinds would be the best man for the job. He's no Edward Woodward but best of the best who's around at the moment IMHO

  • Hinds? Who's he?

  • Please no movie! Do not ruin the legend!

  • What does he say at 0.32?

  • @MelekBetul "Such humor, such finesse ... from such a jerk!"

  • Thanks a bunch DracIsBack :-) And thanks again for this great vid. Cant stop watching.

  • Brilliant line, brilliant show, brilliant actor. No one does vigilante better than Ed Woodward. Where is season 2 on DVD??!

  • @DracIsBack, thank you very much :-)

  • @MelekBetul "such humour and such finesse from such a jerk" don't write lines like that anymore.

  • hahaha

That was just so good, I wish there were more hard men actors like that these days pulling those sorts of lines out.

All you get now is 'I'm gunna kill yer mo fo' - doesnt quiet have the kudos of 'all you need to know is that i'm going to crack you wide open' hahaha

Thanks for uploading - brilliant 5 stars all the way!

  • So sorry Edward has passed, fantastic actor, lovely human being, nobody could ever play Robert mc call like him,he was a real class act,but will always be fondly remembered..The Equalizer was ace, such a sad time love to his family xx

  • This was a GREAT show & a great actor in Edward Woodward. RIP

  • A legendary character. The Equalizer will live forever. RIP Ed :-((((

  • Equalizer movie is in the work it is official

  • Any idea who's going to be staring in it? I looked but couldn't find anything. It was such an awesome show I just hope the movie does it the justice it deserves.

  • I read earlier talks bout bringing back things like the A-Team and this The Equaliser. Personally i think they shouldn't do it. Back in the days they were brilliant, but. u couldn't have the a-team without hannible and the equalizer without richard mccall. They were the iriginals so if it was decided for a new one of each then the actors have alot to live up to

  • i used to stay up when i was a young boy to watch this. r i p edward woodward

  • I can't help but fathom how an enduring CLASSIC and Masterpiece like THE EQUALIZER never got much publicity. A motion picture could've been made from it. Regardless, one of the BEST TV shows ever!

    80's and 70's Forever!

    RIP Edward Woodward.

  • "What a terrible double negative"

I'm pissing myself at that, and the last line - classic! Not as good as Callan but a good 80s show, very gritty and EW still excellent!

Watched Callan the film yesterday, first time for over10 years - still brilliant. RIP - you are constantly missed big guy.

  • odds against you.... call the equalizer

  • i am 26 years old and living in london i have been in the parachute regiment and served in Iraq i would love to see the equalizer back on the street ...............in fact i might be his remake lol, does any1 no where i can buy a decent jaguar...dont wory about the firearms lol

  • the equalizer was the best tv show of all time, bar none

  • "Time is UP,throw him OUT of the window", am sat here laughing, rememer this show as a very young child, rip!

  • If they do an Equalizer movie I don't know who they could get to play him. Actually, why bother making a movie?

  • I think an Equalizer movie is a cert at some point in the future. Too soon after Eds tragic passing however. Bless him. They are doing the A-team without originals so McCall is another iconic role that could get hollywood treatment. Have to be vsimiliar to tv series and with a brit actor. i think jason statham or a post007 daniel Craig would be good

  • Craig maybe but not Statham. I think they should cast someone older---maybe Bill Nighy for example.

  • ROFL. Nighy!

  • Daniel Craig would be an awesome McCall. He portrays Bond that way so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to see him play it.

  • Please don't do anything you will never live to regret...

  • McCall was as cold as ice! RIP Mr Woodward

  • Edward Woodward allways be The The Equalizer for me and he is a top hardman.

  • RIP Edward... I LOVED the Equalizer back when it was on (currently waiting for Season 2 to come out on DVD)... rest well, sir. You will be missed.

  • We have a problem to solve, you and I

  • His role in this series was amazing. This show was amazing, and I can never get tired of seeing them.

    RIP Mr. Edward Woodward

  • God bless and keep you Edward. You were one of the best! With video's I really don't have to let you go, but my sympathies to your family and friends.

  • Love the video! A timely reminder of a truly great actor who never got his due recognition IMHO.

Very sad to hear of Edward Woodwards passing. I truly loved "The Equaliser". But the series hasn't been on British TV for a very, very long time.

The character (and series) was brilliantly conceived - and magnificently portrayed by Mr Woodward.

God rest you in peace, sir.

  • LEGEND!!!!! Total legend. He showed on that show not to mess with older guys, they'll never make a series like that again. Great video too.

    RIP Edward Woodwood

  • Edward Woodward's character of Robert McCall comes from a gone, but not forgotten era. You're right, TV will never be like this again; not without Woodward.

Farewell Mr. Woodward, you will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace.

  • Rest In Peace.. Great series. It remember me a lot of moment in my past... :(

  • RIP Mr. Woodward. A great Fan from Germany.

  • check out "C64 Demo - The Equalizer" which is on youtube also.. =)

    RIP EW

  • R.I.P Edward Woodward. you shall be forever missed!! God bless!

  • Such a loss......R.I.P EW

  • RIP edward woodwood, my earliest memory of tv is me sitting on the floor by the fire getting ready for bed and my parents watching this. I thought is was action packed and wanted to stay up and watch it. Not only that years later i realized that my earliest movie memory i had was of the wicker man with edward woodwood as well.

    we have lost a legend.

  • but will be buried in a box made of "the wood that Woodward would" 0_o

  • Un excellent acteur !

  • RIP Edward Woodward

  • what a brilliant actor.....R.I.P. Edward

  • RIP Mr. Woodward. I never missed an episode of The Equalizer.

  • So sad to see another one of our lads gone! Best of the old school British bad boys!!! You will be dearly missed by all of us. You will always be star & our thoughts are now with your family! R.I.P our friend...

  • R.I.P Edward.

  • Great compilation showing McCall , a sad loss today, R.I.P Edward

  • RIP EQUALIZER

  • Can i just take this moment to say how sad i am that i have passed away and to thank you all for your kind words. I shall never forget you.x

  • A sad, sad day. Rest in peace, sir.

  • was their news of his death over in canada

  • Yes, there was, although I first heard about it through a link on the City of Heroes forum.

  • R I P great british actor,

  • he was a great actor a shame hes gone i remember him in Hot fuzz as the guy who got blown up

  • He was one of my all time favourite actors from the days of "Callan" (not sure if that was shown in the USA) to The Equalizer.

Rest In Peace Mr Edward Woodward OBE
