they havent ditched us, they are still going to make games for us, just not exclusively. and since they already have the third engine up and running for pc. im sure they wouldnt just stop there after all that work

As for Q #2, the Cryengine is simply the game engine that Crysis runs on. You can google to get more technical info about the Cryengine.

okay, few to no games are rendered in 1080p, i know the box says they are but they are upscaled. modern warfare for any system (including pc) is only 540p. your pc may say 2600p (impossible cause the lines of code add lines every 3 making 2160p) but it is upscaled to that. if you put a dvd in a blu-ray it doesnt make the dvd high def. and my favorite games are demons souls, killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2, gran turismo 5, heavy rain, and yes i like little big planet. cant get those on pc.
@joggingbanana not at all. a 1080p pc game is in fact 1080p, consoles upscale because they compensate resolution for graphics. pc dosnt have this problem, because its power is not limited. feel free to google it if you disagree, or check ati's/nvidias website. and there are great games for pc too that you cant get for consoles, like starcraft 2, rift, arma 2, diablo 2, diablo 3 which is on its way, etc etc.

First off, Resident Evil was always a console series, and COD recently sold out big-time with MW2. No dedicated servers? No leaning? Even Black Ops' "dedicated servers" solution is so half-assed you can barely call them dedicated. And oh, performance issues on any PC.
Second, Crysis 2 is a linear, streamlined corridor shooter with no destructable environments and just more COD-like action. It's nowhere near the greatness of the first.

Instead, the games are restricted by the weakness of consoles, since devs like to develop on consoles because it's easier and more profitable. Hence Crysis 2's linearity and worse physics than Crysis 1. Play it and you'll fucking know it. It's nothing like Crysis 1. Or just watch gameplay videos. Crytek didn't propose that for no reason: Crytek wants to ensure the best for its players.
@vistastructions Linearity is how the worls is designed. Open design = open world (Crysis 1, GTA series, etc); Linearity = linear maps (Crysis 2, CoD series, etc).

Third, consoles make up for 90% of the gaming market, making "ditching the PC community" in favor of consoles a really attractive choice since you just get a lot more sales with more platforms.
No matter the horsepower of your PC, masses will always buy games on consoles, and that's why Crytek won't be broke anytime soon. In fact, they've already made more money on console versions of Crysis 2 than with the first two PC-exclusive Crysii yet.

Actually regarding the consoles... THey are specially made pcs... With the right software programming, u can actually stick an Xbox 360 hd, PS3 hd into a computer. then use linux as a base and allow which one u wanna use to boot up. Then u can plug in a USB based controller. PS3 is natively usb. U can also setup a hot wire system .
Why no1 ever does it is cus its warranty. Course u also need very complex knowledge in codin. Completely create a new algorithim for pcs Gpus. That will be god cnsle

Ok so why do you say gamers need 12-24 gigs of ram? I have 4 gigs of DDR3 and over 150 games installed. Once you get past 8 gigs of RAM its just pointless as all that extra RAM is just taking up space. The people who have 12-24 gigs of ram are 1. super rich or 2. Running servers or downloading so much porn that it would fry any lesser amounts of memory. GAMERS only need a MAX of 6 gigs to play any game coming out for the next five years. Also PC beats anything else in gaming hands down.

Also x64 based system has a max of 16gbs of RAM that it will use if the system ever gets that bogged down. true that most don't but future games will use more. think about it. b4 pcs had 2-3gbs mainstream max, now its around 4-6 gbs mainstream. if game companies follow the trend n they most likely will. i noe some games allow to remove a limiter so that it will run smoother by increasing ram usage.

@kim8145139 4GB? most gamers have about 12GB to 24GB max... compared to the 256 ram. but the small problem is that the L2 cache for modern pc is kinda small now... its about a 1 GB l2, 8 GB l3 cache on the pc. meaning there may be a lag while the console has the cache directly on the RAM speeding it up. The console will be slightly faster in loading.

@aznsorawarrior The GPU can process better than the processor itself. I.E. GTX 480 + Quad core pc vs 6 core w/o GPU. The GPU will increase the waiting time but the graphics will be better because UNLIKE THE PROCESSOR. the GPU are customized specifically for doing 3d shit like this.

I'm buying it for the PS3, the reason is that while I think the graphics are very important, I am also hoping the fun factor is there too, and that I can play it online with friends, who don't have a PC like I do and will not easily be convinced to purchase a 300 dollar graphics card.

I think the real reason console may beat out PC gaming is that the business model behind the online services is so profitable..that they are trying to switch PCs(who generally never had paid DLC) into similar models. Look at Steam, BattleNet, and now OnLive. OnLive is trying to bridge the gap bringing a mostly hardware independent console experience to the PC. Theory is great...especially instant nature of the game loads, but you better have a fiber connection. PCs rule.

The fact is good PC graphics cards are expensive for the "average joe". Most of the population of gamers are average joe's. The average joe just wants to play games and not worry too much about the "possible" configurations. Crysis 2 is tailored for consoles because Crytek knows the average player doesn't know squat about graphics rendering and computer hardware and software in general

This is a toughy. I'm trying to decide whether to buy this on PC or XBOX. I mean, PC can, and obviously will have graphics that far surpass the XBOX and PS3. But the only thing is, is that I don't know if I want the game for the action-packed multiplayer experience (with my friends) that the XBOX will allow. You do realize that COD runs better and at a higher resolution than the PS3 due to difference's between both consoles.
In other words, it's easier to make games on a 360 and port them than vice versa, that's why the 360 usually comes out on top with Multi-Platform games. realy?

Games on console like(Ex:Killzone3, Halo) get leaked on the console all the time especially on the Xbox. Sadly I heard that microsoft is trying to bribe em into making a exclusive for the Xbox. I don't crytek would ditch their true fans that quickly since PC gamers have made them what they are today even if we couldn't run one of their most poorly optimized yet good looking game Crysis.

First off, Resident Evil was always a console series, and COD recently sold out big-time with MW2. No dedicated servers? No leaning? Even Black Ops' "dedicated servers" solution is so half-assed you can barely call them dedicated. And oh, performance issues on any PC.
Second, Crysis 2 is a linear, streamlined corridor shooter with no destructable environments and just more COD-like action. It's nowhere near the greatness of the first.

Instead, the games are restricted by the weakness of consoles, since devs like to develop on consoles because it's easier and more profitable. Hence Crysis 2's linearity and worse physics than Crysis 1. Play it and you'll fucking know it. It's nothing like Crysis 1. Or just watch gameplay videos. There's my proof, it's just up to you whether you'll prove yourself wrong. And you can't do it.

Linearity is how the story is comprised of, NOT the graphics detail, rendering, etc. Physics...RSX vs 5870...It may be restricted to how much processing power the XBOX 360 and PS3 be limited to, but if you look at the PC specs, it would be at least 4X better than the two. Crytek didn't propose that for no reason: Crytek wants to ensure the best for its players.

Third, consoles make up for 90% of the gaming market, making "ditching the PC community" in favor of consoles a really attractive choice since you just get a lot more sales with more platforms.
No matter the horsepower of your PC, masses will always buy games on consoles, and that's why Crytek won't be broke anytime soon. In fact, they've already made more money on console versions of Crysis 2 than with the first two PC-exclusive Crysii yet.

I wanna see them lease out the CryEngine 3 to other companies so the rest of our games could look this good. Imagine a Call Of Duty game with this kind of graphics, or a Gears of War with this kind of graphics. I do believe that would turn into a powerful game right there. Each companies individual flare they add to their games, with the power of Cryengine 3. Thats something right there.

plus to do this type stuff all u need to do is build ur own pc and eventually u will begin to understand stuff like this. im also a gamer so my 'uncle' taught me how to build pcs and what does what. of course, online websites do that too. good places to start learning is neweggs beginner section. Actually regarding the consoles... THey are specially made pcs... With the right software programming, u can actually stick an Xbox 360 hd, PS3 hd into a computer. then use linux as a base and allow which one u wanna use to boot up. Then u can plug in a USB based controller. PS3 is natively usb. U can also setup a hot wire system .
Why no1 ever does it is cus its warranty. Course u also need very complex knowledge in codin. Completely create a new algorithim for pcs Gpus. That will be god cnsle

Ok so why do you say gamers need 12-24 gigs of ram? I have 4 gigs of DDR3 and over 150 games installed. Once you get past 8 gigs of RAM its just pointless as all that extra RAM is just taking up space. The people who have 12-24 gigs of ram are 1. super rich or 2. Running servers or downloading so much porn that it would fry any lesser amounts of memory. GAMERS only need a MAX of 6 gigs to play any game coming out for the next five years. Also PC beats anything else in gaming hands down.

@OMAHA2231 ... most modern GAMING RIGS have an average of 6-12GBS of RAM. most modern MAINSTREAM pcs have 4 gbs. Unlike x32 bit software which can only support up to 4 gbs only. but 64 bit has no limit... rite now i have 6 gbs available (but since my mobo ram slots are damaged i can only use 4).
No offense, if u think that only gamers require 6 gbs. then u dont understand the need. 6 GB tri channel will be big in a year or so. The larger ur RAM size, the faster it can run w/o loading, and more

Also x64 based system has a max of 16gbs of RAM that it will use if the system ever gets that bogged down. And if gamers need so much RAM, why don't companies like Falcon and Alienware preload their machines with that much? I'll tell you why. Your system under load won't use more than 4 to 6 gbs. Lol i'm not bashing ur knowledge I just wanna know where you get your information :D

true that most don't but future games will use more. think about it. b4 pcs had 2-3gbs mainstream max, now its around 4-6 gbs mainstream. if game companies follow the trend n they most likely will. i noe some games allow to remove a limiter so that it will run smoother by increasing ram usage.

touche. i mistyped. i dont think well be able to get close to gbs anytime soon. even with ddr4 and 5. intels going with the 2 mb/core. and the cores are reaching its limits. i doubt intel will be able to create a new core that trumps the 980 within a year or so. but im still running a 790i ultra lga 775. so im a bit bhind the times. need some cash to upgrade. and for most true gamers. they will have at least 1200 w psu

@kim8145139 4GB? most gamers have about 12GB to 24GB max... compared to the 256 ram. but the small problem is that the L2 cache for modern pc is kinda small now... its about a 1 GB l2, 8 GB l3 cache on the pc. meaning there may be a lag while the console has the cache directly on the RAM speeding it up. The console will be slightly faster in loading.

The loading time for the consoles may be slightly faster. so? For pc, once its up, it can be contiguous meaning NO LOADING IN BETWEEN. that is if u have a RAM refresher.
On top of that. the GPu is specialized. so that the cores can be itself.

@aznsorawarrior The GPU can process better than the processor itself. I.E. GTX 480 + Quad core pc vs 6 core w/o GPU. The GPU will increase the waiting time but the graphics will be better because UNLIKE THE PROCESSOR. the GPU are customized specifically for doing 3d shit like this.

@VaygrX actually the first game was made before the first pc. old origional games werent. you can even get a model of the first playstation that comes with a disc that starts an operating system to make games right on the console. i agree that a lot of games are made USING a computer but if you look at some creator videos and they are showing unfinished games they are working on they are running everything through the system. also you can install linux or windows on the ps3...

I also had a super-nes (the 1st 1 with streetfighter 2) & a megadrive (with sonic). I think the real reason console may beat out PC gaming is that the business model behind the online services is so profitable..that they are trying to switch PCs(who generally never had paid DLC) into similar models. Look at Steam, BattleNet, and now OnLive. OnLive is trying to bridge the gap bringing a mostly hardware independent console experience to the PC. Theory is great...especially instant nature of the game loads, but you better have a fiber connection. PCs rule.

The fact is good PC graphics cards are expensive for the "average joe". Most of the population of gamers are average joe's. The average joe just wants to play games and not worry too much about the "possible" configurations. This is a toughy. I'm trying to decide whether to buy this on PC or XBOX. I mean, PC can, and obviously will have graphics that far surpass the XBOX and PS3. But the only thing is, is that I don't know if I want the game for the action-packed multiplayer experience (with my friends) that the XBOX will allow. Or if I want the incredibly rich, and immersive environments, along with a stunning singleplayer. that the PC can bring...
Truly this is a difficult decision. Friends? Or game itself. Well?

@colprom im a pc gamer and i of course prefer cryengine 3.
not because i did not like cryengine 2, but because cryengine 3 means afterwards.
also because, as they said, it will need a less demanding pc to be run, and the graphics will almost be the same, since you will go to the island very little time in the game.. :)

all i say is that PC will conquer this game in graphics. no way that the 360's 5 year old hardware could match the PS3 and PC? Just look at call of duty? the 360 version has sooo low resulution compared to the ps3 and PC.

Actually Call of Duty on the 360 has a higher resolution than the PS3 version.

How? Well have you checked out BeyondGaming, Lens of Truth, and Digital Foundry to see what resolutions both games run at on their consoles?
You do realize that COD runs better and at a higher resolution than the PS3 due to difference's between both consoles.
In other words, it's easier to make games on a 360 and port them than vice versa, that's why the 360 usually comes out on top with Multi-Platform games. realy?
