@SolarBlade52 Actually its a sub category that was started by Getter. vehicles to robot combination. if you want one with all robots combining look at the symmetrical docking pairs in gaogaigar. they are examples as they are all able to become seperate robos while becoming bigger robos.

Keep in mind, super robots as a whole only came into existence 2 years earlier with Mazinger Z. Both those shows were created by Go Nagai, which basically makes him the father of all Super Robot shows.

Matter of perspective I guess, but I wouldn't call that a combination personally. Also, TV Tropes states "The Getter Robo series, which is the Trope Maker for the combining giant robot, though there had been combining robots as early as Astro Boy." So, take that as you will. I'll always give credit to Getter Robo

Trope maker usually means the one that made it become a trope in the first place like how Mazinger is the trope maker for chest weapons (breast fire). So in truth Mazinger is still a combining robot because it isn't whole without the Pilder and Kouji. Kouji literally, with the pilder, is the brain of Mazinger and a combined robot means that all components are present.

It's really more of a combination of Getter with the Nagahama trilogy (Combattler/Voltes/Daimos). I don't know of any actual Super Robot show where the second-in-command dies like that- That might be a reference to Gatchaman instead.

No, there's only three Getters. There was a later show called Albegas where there were three vehicles that combine into six different robots.

I think if they combined in the wrong order you might end up with something like... Getter 1's upper body on Getter 3's tracks. Which might be useful for something, but... probably not.
