  • is that safe for the car or it it good to to that

  • I noticed that one person already mentioned this...but did you remove your catalytic converter prior to "Seafoaming"? I've heard that the expelled deposits can clog the CC, setting check engine codes, and necessitating a replacement.

  • @MDCeasar I didn't do this, nor did I remove the O2 sensors! It was ok also. I "could" this causing a problem but I think it would burn off the cat. I'm not 100% sure though.

  • @MDCeasar my dad had 3 bad o2 sensors and after seafoaming his truck, 2 became good and only 1 was bad, this shit works like god.

  • Could somebody translate me this shit in german please?

  • @kljuccc

    Ja, Ich Kann!

  • @kljuccc

You sure seem like you know English pretty well to refer to this video as "this shit". Hahaha!

  • What is sea foaming?

  • why would you put a strut bar on a convertiable? they already weigh enough and they come with an xbrace under the car for their lack of handeling like an m3 ltw does. im just saying. no sense in putting any handeling mods on a car that wont handel as well as a hardtop.

  • @MetalicB0x

I disagree, you should do everything you can to help the handling. Especially because it is a convertible. To say it will never be as good is true due to the weight, but its the same as saying don't touch any BMW because its not an E30 M3 coupe.

"Do what you can with what you got!"

  • @millertimebmw

hahahah you're reply made me laugh, and since this video I've actually seen some pretty cool drift M3 Convs., sorry to come off as a hater, I'm secretly jealous of the hell rot red haha

  • Badass Bimmer.

Back before they made all of them ugly shit.

  • Which model code reader do use and does it reset service lights

And great videos some of the most helpful

  • agree this is a good vid and with tryplastic- have seen your vid's and you do fine on your own- edit the guy out or tell him to be quiet and just hold the camera

  • Forgot to say, my smoke is actually thicker than that. And muchhhh more

  • Shitty thing is, I don't have sea foam in my car, and my exhaust is doing this on my BMW M3... I'm going to guess a blown head gasket on my car, but yeah looks the same as that exhaust =/

  • I seafoamed my e34 bmw and now it won't accelerate when in drive but revs fine in park. P.S. I only threw it in the crankcase and gas tank.

  • @sold13r45

It seems you have an issue under load. Are your plugs good?

  • @millertimebmw yeah the plugs should be fine, when in park or nuetral the engine sounds great, i go to drive and it starts to idle rough won't rev or accelerate or anything. i don't understand it.

  • @sold13r45

If your spark plugs were about to go out, Seafoam will definitely kill them. If they're fairly new it shouldn't be a problem...

Sort of like 'the straw that broke the camels back' so to speak..

  • @sold13r45

Oh dear god, please tell me you did an oil change right after you put the seafoam in your crank case. Seafoam into the crank case will THIN your oil. It breaks the oil down, and will be like water.

You are suppose to put it into the crankcase yes... but make sure to change your oil right after the clean.

  • @OfficerSheepDog does the seafoam go to the crankcase through the brake booster line?

  • @MilkThatEmo I dont believe so. I cant say im certain though. I have 5k on the same oil I seafoamed with and im fine, as i did not put it into the vacuum hose, or brake booster line and not the crankcase. I went from 14L per 100km to 11L =D

  • @OfficerSheepDog you did NOT put it in the vac hose or bb line? lol typo?

  • @MilkThatEmo

hahah yes sorry, typo. I DID put it into the vacuum line lol

  • @MilkThatEmo lol cmon hows it gonna go to the crankcase and clean the upper cylinders literally impossible

  • Hey Zach, your the man...I don't live near any desolate streets so I did it at night..good thing, there was more smoke from my car then smoke at a Kiss concert. How 'bout doing a fuel filter for the E46?

  • @doobiebrother3729, The fuel filter is under the car on the driver side. Take the protection cover off, "three bolts are holding it. make sure you have some vice grips to hold the pressure in the lines because there is a lot of pressure and will spray if you don't. Unscrew the rings that hold the lines to the fuel filter and make sure you remember where the lines go on the new one. Put the new one one and reverse the removal of the old one.

  • zack don't do it my son!

  • Hi Zach i see you held on your hand the reset code device. Can you tell me what model it is

  • @snnho ANY obd2 scanner can clear the SES and stored codes

  • @snnho

    Its the Actron CP9125

    Zach

  • hey, i dont own a bmw, i own a ford, but you can tell me what the point of seafoam ? is for cleaning the engine right ? could i do this with my ford too ? please provide me more information.... thanks man

  • @yonutfilip

Yes, any car has carbon built-up from the combustion process.

    Seafoam helps to remove this.

    Zach

  • WTF happened?

  • @millertimebmw You can also buy a spray can aerosol version of it that you can spray into your intake manifold instead of useing the vac line.

  • I HAVE A CODE 1475 CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT

  • how long can i have the sea foam in my oil, before i need to change it? maximum 100 miles?

  • Thats the thing does this stuff really work, and do any good im going to do my 525i sport ,i just hope it does more good than bad. Im going to use STP as we dont have superfoam in uk. Thanks for shareing.

  • are you supposed to put it in the valve cover where the oil goes into also? I heard that you need to do that as well as through the vacuum line, and some people drop the rest into their gas. What's the best do do?

  • You can apply it as I did.

    You can :

Add to the gas tank - then change the fuel filter.

Add to oil - then change oil and filter.

    Good luck,

    Zach

  • @forgetaboutit555 u do not need to change the oil immediately after . it can stay in for atleteast a few hundred miles . it is a pertroleu based product. u do no tneed to to change your fuel flter.

  • I used seafoam on my 99 corolla just in the brake booster and it seems to run idle and start instantly compared to before. It blew out a big cloud of smoke im sure there was nasty carbon built up.

  • seafoamed my 1992 325i today, 127k on the car, had some doubts on the stuff before.

Now I know it definitely works, acceleration got much smoother, there is still some hesitation left in idling but something else is causing that

    thanks for the vid

  • so how often do you do this procedure? i also own a bmw (325is) and going to sea foam it this wknd. i was considering switching to synthetic oil after.... ummm how does that sound?

  • I do this about once a year. Depending on the miles on your 325 and if the previous owners oil change regimen that should be fine!

  • cool, thanx alot bud.

  • hey did u connect the brake booster line back before u waited 10-15 mins?

  • Yes you do.

    Zach

  • The video was pretty good, apart from that part, one moment you're standing next to engine bay with hood open ... next moment you're sitting in car with engine down. Could be somewhat clearer what you did in between, what order, and where exactly did you cause the error codes ...

  • So do you have to change your oil after putting through your intake?

  • nah. but definitely if you dump it in the crankcase. conventional wisdom says to run it for no more than 50 miles, then change the oil

  • good advice, I normally do between 50-100 miles. Giving the seafoam time to loosen up some grit which is then captured in the filter.

    Zach

  • No you need not change it.

You can add seafoam to the gas tank (then you need to change your fuel filter soon after)/

You can add it to your oil (oil change/ filter is needed after)

Added to the intake requires nothing more.

    Zach

  • crankcase.

  • how about on the E46 325Ci SULEV ?

  • I would need to do some research, I know that BMW uses special filters to capture hydrocarbons to lower the the emissions on the SULEV. Im not positive the seafoam would "clog" these filters. I'll try and chime back in asap!

    Zach

  • ok thx, hope to hear from you soon

  • Go on e46fanatics or bimmerforums and you will find everything you need to know..

  • What if you don't have access to a code erasing tool, can you take it somewhere to have codes erased? I know a mechanic can do it but i heard autozone clears them for free too.

  • I used the latter, free to use and it's pretty cool also.

  • I am not sure about this product?? How do we know its not just the product producing all the smoke and not really carbon burn off?

  • If you run the car with this fluid running through it, the smoke will be very light. if you let it sit and soak you will notice the smoke is much thicker.

I am positive my idle is MUCH smoother though.

  • Cool...I think I will try it...thanks for the info!

  • Is this product safe for E46 BMW M3?

  • Yes it should be, it works on all internal combustion engines!

  • it's pretty good stuff if you use it right. when i did it, the bumper area above my tailpipe turned gray (not completely, but you can see the carbon)

for those of you who are lazy, seafoam can be used in the fuel tank, you won't get to see the smoke show, but it still cleans off some carbon

  • Its going to buildup carbon, and does decrease performance and efficancy "bigcarguy69"

Its probably been said already below, but its just the natural cycle of engines and it is good to clean it out as anyone would on a engine rebuild. This is just a simpler way, but probably not as effective.

  • you do realize that no matter how well you maintain your car you WILL get carbon build up. just part of life...so you are way better off going and getting a can of seafoam. its whats call good proper maintance...just saying i take real good care of my baby and i was surpized by how much came out.

  • Its funny how you guys love the puffes of smoke ahaha that's the reason loves this product for the smoke!

You said all the carbon and smoke coming out the tail pipe you mean? Carbon? LOL

  • yep, not 100% of the smoke is Carbon coming out, some MUST be the remaining sea-foam burning off also :)

  • We don't get this stuff in the UK but it would be interesting to compare a new car with 100 miles on it and an old car with 100,000 miles on it to see if there is much of a difference of smoke between them.

  • Pick up some blacked out kidney grills, and remove those grill centers. Tacky.

  • I chose an area that was secluded so the revving of the engine and plume of carbon would not disrupt anyone. As I wouldn't want my neighbor doing this and having the smoke come near my house :P

  • Why did you guys do this by the side of the road? Why not your driveway?

  • great video

what kind of code reader are you using thanks

  • actron, buy at autozon under 100 bucks.

  • Great video, and mad props for posting it, but... tell that douchebag in the background to STFU. It would have been perfect with you hosting it clearly, having his little inputs totally detracts from it, and there is no necessary need for his behind the camera interruption opinions!

  • true

  • I'm thinking of seafoaming my crankcase and then drive it around for a little while before I take it for an oil change, Will doing that make smoke also? I don't want to be driving it to the oil change place while the car is smoking.

  • There are multiple loactions to use Seafoam.

In the gas tank (clean fuel filter soon after).

In the crank case a few miles or so after change the oil and filter.

And finally as you saw, in the intake track.

The intake and perhaps the gas will cause the "smoke effect".

So, in your crank case should be fine before an oil change.

    **Always read the instructions first!**

  • NEver ever rev a bmw automatic like that in netural. Your auto will be trashed in hurry. I think no more than 2500 rpm pepps

  • prove it

  • I wish someone would sea foam a brand new car fresh off the lot and see if it would smoke also. If it doesn't then that's proof it works.

  • As would I!!!!

  • Did you feel any change in your car's performance after/

  • If I pour this only in my fuel tank, will it still smoke?

  • Possibly, it will loosen up stuck on stuff in your fuel system so replace the filter also.

  • I put a whole can in the fuel tank of my 97 Passat TDI. No smoke. Ran it down to about a 1/4 tank then took it in for regular service and had them change the fuel filter.

  • @ professorxox

I guess if you'd sea foam a brand new car through the brake booster line it would smoke also, because the sea foam is oil based and does burn in your engine. when sea foaming you should carefully watch the color of the smoke. if it's pearly white, the engine was already pretty clean inside. if the smoke is grey, brown or black you can be sure, the engine needed it really bad :)

  • Doesn't that piece of shit 'seafoam' get the catalitic converter fucked up?

  • on the can it says it doesn't but the carbon from the engine goes right into the exhaust so who knows

  • I actually needed to change the O2 sensors in my car prior to seafoaming it. I actually don't know what it does to the sensors, I'd be alittle carbon would get on them but might be blown off later on. Once removed they looked fine, no clumps of carbon. Z

  • I'm a good video and you are intelligent to say it might be in your mind that it is more smooth. I personally doubt seafoam does much.

Gauranteed to Pass fuel system cleaner seems to improve gas mileage in my car. I pickup about 30-40 miles per 20 gallon tank. This is the ONLY product that I have seen results with.

  • how do you know thats just not the seafoam burning off? Theres no way to tell that seafoam works or has any positive effect on your car.

  • You are correct. It is possible that nothing positive happens. Unless I were to look at the heads themselve pre and post sea foam. I think the idle positively smoothed out though. Thanks for watching!

  • Interesting video- I'm going to go check out your others...

  • "keep reving it" -> Roarrrm :) love that sound dude!

  • Thanks buddy! I love the sound too :)

  • Thanks man relly apriciate

  • NO PROBLEM!!!

  • where did u get that device that read the onboard computer?

  • its a OBD 2 scanner.

  • 1/3 goes in intake, 1/3 in the oil and another 1/3 in your gas tank with a 1/4 tank of gas.

  • Correct, don't forget to change your oil/ filter and fuel/ filter after, as the seafoam releases contaminants within the oil and gas tanks.

  • can you change your filters immediately after or should you wait?

  • I waited for a whole tank of gas.

  • hey ur car sounds in good condition lol how many millage it's got in there?

  • Very low miles.....170,000 miles :)

  • thats not low thats pretty a lot lol

  • Ha ha, I know, I was kidding.

    Z

  • Did you say you swapped in a M50? That car came with a M50? did you have a M44 before or destroy the last one? Anyways... why would you leave in the auto trans if you swapped the motor?

In response to the guy below... I think thats just him regurgitating what he herd somewhere else.

  • the car had and has a m52 2.8L, The manifold is a M50 (intake).

  • Make sure the car is warm, remove brake booster line, and SLOWLY pour in the SeaFoam, dont suck it directly out of the can. NEVER LET IT DIE. By pouring it in to fast you can HYDROLOCK your engine. That means it WILL be ruined. After you SLOWLY pour 1/3 of the can in, shut off the engine and let it sit 5-10 minutes. Then start it and drive it pretty hard. This allows the SeaFoam to get the upper rings. Thats the ONLY way.

    DONT let a $6 can become a $2000+ mistake.

  • hey what the name of that device u hookedup to the car to tell u wt u broke?

  • It's a ODB2 scan tool, rent it for FREE at AutoZone! !

  • what they should tell you is you need to have someone behind the wheel- so that if the car sucks in to much, the person in the car can hit the gas to get it through the engine faster...many people have destroyed engines by using seafoam. its not worth it if you ask me.

  • Or just pull on the butterfly on the Throttle body, its not hard. If your engine is destroyed by seafoam you can sue the company, it says its perfectly safe.

  • most new cars today are drive by wire..no more butterflies :|

  • lol. no more butterflies? dude, its just electronically controlled- the drive by wire just means theres no cable to accuate the butterfly. wow.

  • If the steps that I show are followed then you should be fine. The car lets you know if your sucking in too much seafoam by supttering quite badly, then you just slow how much your allowing into the brake booster!

  • do you think it would suck out from a rubber hose???

  • Thats the idea! I used a blue hose but a regular rubber one would work.

  • Yes!

  • so i could put seafoam after the MAF

  • I would stick to a vacume source for the brakes that is after the MAF, the seafoam might screw-up the readings the sensors gives out in the MAF.

  • i forgot to mention the brake booster pipe is hooked on on the third intake hose of the throtle body, someone in the fourms said that "Your can should have some vacuum from the line for the fuel pressure regulator use that" or "open up the air cleaner or seperate the MAF from the air cleaner box spray or slowly pour seafoam so it can be suck as the car idles" do u think these ideas any good?

  • How did it only clean 1 cyl. ? I will research your engine and let you know, If you suck the seafoam into the brake booster line it will clean all of your cylinders ;)

  • so today i decided to seafoam my car, after doing that i found out that it only cleaning one cylinder cylinder #3 >:(, any idea to clean the rest of the cylinder?? Or all of them are cleaned by one intake..

  • do you think its safe with my 85 318i M10? I feel afraid that something is going to go wrong or it wont start due to engine flood?

  • You should be ok, start off by only waiting 5 min and see how much carbon comes out, then try again if you wish. The M10's a good motor, just suck up alittle at a time and then more and more (almost stalling the car out!)

    Zach

  • very good info, i'm gonna have to try it!

  • Thanks for the fast response man. Awesome.

Actually it has 103k on it and I got it about 4 months ago at about 100k.

I followed the steps exactly like the vid. Waited 10-15 and started her up. Very little smoke for about 3-5 min. That's it. Not dark or fluffy, just light smoke.

Maybe the previous owner REALLY took care of her and she's not that dirty? If so, that's awesome.

    What do you think?

btw... my name is DSP420 on Bimmerforums. Nice to meet u.

  • I sent you a message, sounds clean to me!

  • So I seafoamed my M3, and nothing. I had very little smoke coming out and no CEL's came on.

Does that mean I'm clean? or is something wrong?

  • How many miles, if you did it as shown above and let it sit for 10-15 min. start it up and smoke starts pouring out. If not, or you have low miles, you engines clean!

  • lol "that's always good"

    "ah it's fine dude"

    thanks for the info

is it in any way bad for your car?

and where would the brake booster line be found on a 240sx, like a ka24de?

  • I"m not positive, we swapped a SR-20 motor into our friends 240, I can check for you on the old motor if its still around.

  • sounds good man thanks

yeah it's basically the same concept so that'd be good.

  • yes, a 3/8th inch tube was used.

  • What size is the tube (the blue one) ?? 3/8??

  • No repair costs :D The car runs smoother now, especially in the morning, I am making more and more videos for the BMW community. But, I'd love to make some such-as "seafoam" for everyone to be able to use!

  • how much did the repairs cost for the misfires. great to see someone taking time out of their lives to make a video to help others who arent as great with they cars yet.
