@sashabarcellyia eve realized (while she had the vision when she read cicely's palm) that even cicely was confused about what happened. cicely thought she was helping in the matter but ultimately, her good intentions resulted in the worst. and out of her pain & embarrassment, cicely didn't quite tell the truth of that night. the conclusion is two sweet, innocent, young girls were trying to fix a family & adult issue by taking matters into their own hands

@sashabarcellyia yes..pretty much. eve & cicely were very close (best friends & sisters) so to know that cicely was hurt, eve would do anything for her sister. even if it meant to have & wish their father (who she loved as well) dead. i think more so cicely felt betrayed by her father. she always had his back, stood up for him (when the women in the family were against him) and for him to hit her meant he didn't return the support & love she showed to him.

@sashabarcellyia cicely discerned that her father was having affairs w/ other women and for the sake of the family, she tried to become her mother and give her father what he was lacking from his wife. cicely felt her mother wasn't able to please him anymore as a wife & assumed this is why her father stepped out of his marriage for satisfaction through other women. and in her teenage mind, cicely thought she could fill her father's void intimately (when she kissed him that night of the storm).

@Armaniwazhere ....It's powerful because it is said at the very beginning of the movie. It makes you ask "why" would a child of that age say something so horrific...thus keeping the viewer engaged in the film.

Great film , although I thought the cast was totally snubbed for Oscar recognition. More in partictular Debbi Morgan (aunt Mozelle), I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She played such a significant role in Eve's upbringing. I'd say it was one of the best films in the past 20 yrs.

Now this is how you can tell a phenomenal actress such as Diahann Carroll. She showed her other side in this movie and scared the mess out of me. the makeup, the voice, everything. Whew when I saw her in this movie, I had nightmares. To sum this up, she might have had a small- medium role in this movie, but Diahann Carroll showed out!
