They thought they were making room for more TFs on store shelves by killing off old characters, but I don't think they had a real clue that by killing Prime there would be such a strong reaction. Peter Cullen's voice characterization cemented Prime as a strong, noble leader who was trustworthy and fearless in battle. The 20th Anniversary dvd is totally worth it, the widescreen alone is a major improvement over the Rhino dvd (Rhino didn't have a widescreen print available then anyway).

During the battle for autobot city on earth prime confronted megatron sadly during the battle prime sustained some major damage. Finally prime got the upper hand on megatron but hotrod trying to help prime and it backfired and megatron got the drop on prime shot him..prime got the last word by knocking megatron off the side of the building before he finally died.

Amazing composition. Scene interweaving with what simulated the chords in the song was a fresh and fitting approach. Color washing made it all the more contrasted and emotional.
