  • a song formy dad and mum and all the cfriends that have gone but not forgotten

  • Oh my. It reminds me of the woman I use to love, who had to leave for another country and we never met again. I still mourn and cry over her.

  • reminds me that when you are gone that it is HOW you are remembered that is important. remember bob marley et all who preached only love

  • hes got a cute smile

  • my mum was at a funeral for her best friend today and this song was played at it

  • Doncha just hate those glasses! Remind me of Industrial Safety Glasses, which weren't even invented back then!.

  • It was 2 years from yesterday that my uncle passed away from ever so many cancers. I sit here now and then and listen to this song, and all the good times come back to me. It's nice to have happy tears sometimes.

  • I love this great song by the Kinks. What a great memory of the sixties.

  • great memories I always like this group great music good song writing . apparently the wrote this because the group was breaking up .

  • thank you for the song

  • thank you for the dayzzz......... :[X]

  • This is a song that really touches my heart! On the one hand, it brings back happy memories of my youth, and my parents who are no longer here, and on the other, now, being older, the words are just so poignant and beautiful. It's one of those very rare songs that can make me both smile, and want to shed a few tears! Keep rockin' Ray!

  • How does this have so little views?

  • Ray Davies the most underated songsmith I can think of. This amazing song says it all, it cant be faulted. Musical perfection. Noel gallager would be proud to write a song like this. End of story

  • @stokermcd Noel Gallager sucks, Ray Davies friggin rules

  • Ray Davies is the best songwriter England has ever produced, not Lennon and McCartney. They were undoubtedly more prolific and wrote some great songs but stack up their best work one on one with Ray's best and he wins hands down.

  • @TheKalaxis Don't forget Dave! He did a lot aswell! Its a shame they've fallen out.

  • @zylaurz I'm Dave! But don't call me Dave

  • @TheKalaxis no mate Queen are

  • THE band of the sixties 1

  • just took me back to my youth loooooooved it

  • like if you saw this on the vw car advert

  • A beautiful piece of music!

  • One of their greats a real classic and a tune that takes those of us at a certain age right back to their formative years. But did you know that the revival band The Zodions are rehearsing this one? Just put Zodions into Google and there we are!

  • A song that only Ray Davies would - or even could - write. It might be the cool thing to write a bitter song as the jilted lover, but Davies has never been one to court coolness. That minor key bridge shows that there is definitely pain, but he chooses to power through it.

"You took my life, but then I knew that very soon you'd leave me.

But it's alright; now I'm not frightened of this world believe me."

There's more pain, hope, and joy in that stanza than the Beatles' entire catalog.

  • Rule Brittania we are extremely proud of you and music like this will forever be in our hearts, thank you x

  • F OFF with the adverts.

People, make sure you dont buy stuff from thise who put adverts on Youtube

  • EYYYYY That crappy car advert got me here :)

  • How beautiful!

  • this and waterloo sunset are probably the two songs that move me more than any other.......

  • @robynburns4: well said.

  • Absolutely great..... Fab song by the Kinks.

  • I hope they play this when I die......:)

  • @bretadounitedfc Look at the comment above yours.

  • Timeless song about loss & having the courage to carry on. God Save the Kinks!

  • @grski88 I don't think the song is about loss or death, but rather the end of a beautiful relationship and also, Ray stated himself, the song represented the end of the original lineup of the kinks.

  • I love this song.... it reminds me of the good things that happened in my youth :-)

  • @1331adm

Those were the days! People wore flowers in their hair and sang about love and peace!

  • i had ot sing this when my headtacher was leaving

  • No matter how many times I listen to this song,it always moves me

  • This is not musical trash. There's good harmony, simplicity (without a lack of talent), and a cool climb at the finish. More features than anything in the charts this week. (Every week). Don't even need to mention the words, but.... there's no cussing, no stupidity, no disrespect and no goddamn "G6".

  • We promise we will never buy anything we see advertised before a song on Youtube-pure greed

  • I remember this being released, i was 16. ;o)

Kinks are right up there with the Beatles, Stones & Who.

  • I'm nearly 2 years old, and I think this is brilliant.

  • this song makes me look back on my life and smile at the good times even though im 12 i have so many good memories i've had so much more of a life then you can see just by talking to me the brain is a complex and strange thing that releases powerful and strong hormones that allow us to feel and observe it's so strange how specific patterns of vibrations can make us laugh , cry and love

  • Personally, youtube, i care about the kinks, not dream matte mousse or gillette razors. Kindly fuck off with your adverts so i can listen to this song thanks.

  • This song was played at the funeral of a friend of mine who died from CF. Her husband knew that, in all likelihood, this horrible disease would take her life. Everyone present cried when they listened to these lyrics. Thank you Ray Davies for this amazing piece of work! Miss you E!!

  • @buffalosaint I'm crying now too.

  • love you hanna

  • Beautiful song, played at my Dad's funeral, fantastic lyrics.

  • I agree, this song always reminds me of my fantastic wonderful father.

  • @GilbeRRRt i was thinking of playing it at mine =/

  • @GilbeRRRt always wanted it played at mine 2

  • @GilbeRRRt

your dad must have been special

  • one of my fav.songs, just listen to the words.when you are my age you will realise who important it is to remember the days when you were young good looking and in love.Love you lindy

  • i'm 11 and i like this song

  • godness me. this song just gets better and better everytime I listen to it.

  • 37 people are vampires

  • i have never saw this...love it thank you;)

  • Hey you , The Kinks means always good times . . !

  • Beautiful.

  • If I could dedicate a song to my old friend Mick, this would be it.

    They were wonderful days

  • Ahhhh amo ese disco y esa epoca de the kinks

  • At the time, they probably thought it was just another pop song. Only hindsight tells us what a monster this is.

  • Awesome song and glad to see the band playing it live. Can't imagine not having The Kinks as one of my all-time fave bands.

  • No way this is 1969.

  • Sally my darling! You know what this song means to us both don't you! Remember those long summer days in the 60s walking back to our cottage together while game-keeping in wales.

  • sometimes i feel like i belong in the Davies family

  • Ray Davies is a god!

  • the kinks rock i saw em live 5 times. they never sucked,

  • This is the CLASSIC Kinks performance. A liltingly beautiful tune, deftly performed.

  • I wish I could marry the Davies brothers! :)

  • There is a Film about Ray Daves Songwriting, I have see it recently on TV AND iTS GREAT.

  • I want Ray's t-shirt. It's pretty fucking snazzy.

  • People need to stop being so pretentious, the dislikes a probably just people who don't like the fucking song. Get over it! I personally love it but I don't regard myself as better than anyone because of it.

  • @robynburns4 the dislikes are from cocks and dickheads sad bastards who have nothing to live for and we all wish would die. This song is one of if not the best of all time

  • @sexysport201 It is a great song although it gets so familiar after hearing it so many times, one can get temporarily fed up with it, like 'Yesterday' and others

  • @TheKenfig no it doesn't mate its a tune that just get u right there if ya get something not phenominally known yet nationally known wonderful song and brilliantly executed.

  • @robynburns4 well said and its a magical song im with you on it

  • @robynburns4 well said

  • @redbrier yes, it is a masterpiece, which covers almost every emotion you have ever felt

  • He looks like Howard Stern.

  • You could feel they're lamenting the passing of the sixties decade that we thought would last forever. Beautiful tribute to all who made it an iconic decade of all time.

  • i think this song is about his sister who passed away . i think is it a sweet happy sad mix of emotion. sure do love the kinks and love ray davies and would love to love ray davies.

  • hahahaahaha! I remember the long hair, oh how sweet they look!

  • Stone cold classic

  • Ray looks like John Cassavettes sometimes

PS : I love his songs

  • @Drpsal Good call! cassavettes and the david, two unique artists

  • Slow down and see the colour of the wind. The Kinks were up with the best of them but over-shadowed by the Fab 4 and the Stones. Their music is geographical (time and place) - it is British, especially Waterloo Sunset. I agree, Ray Davies is a genius. His song writing simple yet profound, e.g. Days (these sacred days...) is like a prayer. Thanks for the memories, Eugene

  • the Kinks are not for everybody thank god!

  • Beuituful song! Love the Word's & a Great Group t/you for the vidio xx

  • Only 33 people are so stupid to hit the wrong button, whats the problem!!! Kinks Forever!!!!!!!

  • thank you for this song ! I have enjoyed it over the many years and indeed days of my life !

  • It seems to me that the best way to study modern spoken Engllish is to read the comments you leave here. Thanks a lot but some connoisseurs deserve washing their mouths with soap or shampoo - what do you like best! The Kinks are undoubtedly matchless!

  • quite simply, genius.

  • Why don't you folks take your foul comments away into some PRIVATE virtual hell, and leave the rest of us to enjoy some good music? If you don't like this stuff, use your keyboard to take you elsewhere and enjoy what YOU like!

  • I dare you to find sweeter, more touching lyrics...dare you!

  • Beautiful, beautiful. I am and always will be obsessed.

  • Who is on bass for this video?

  • @mcfoghat John Dalton , who replaced Pete Quaife .

  • Thank you for my Days in the 60-ies Dave & other Kinks!

(PS: Dave was my role-model at that time)

  • The Kinks are so so so soooo much better than the Beatles...

  • @RubberDuckSpoon dedicated hopetrooper, of them and their shitty fashion and sicker and sicker tv...robot s-psychopat world... Back when I started listen to kinks I started smoking hash, At17 I was hooked really bad on speed, led me into massive paran-schiz psychosis, was 18 was truly deep in shit depts, everyday, every second: they will torture me, they will kill me- but I was already tortured I got so paran I thought my family would turn on me, I died inside. Demon alc,&music.Opiates

  • The one song that makes me cry. I'm 16, and have grown up with this music. Better than any of the rubbish thats around today. Amazing :)

  • The love of my life had just chucked me when this came out, still makes me feel sad after all this time, a truely fantastic song. Thanks Ray.

  • Hi

    How are you?

    terrific talent unsurpassed.

    Rock on

    ELVISERIC

  • Nice mellotron strings in the background.

  • Perfect :)

  • Class..fucking class.Thank You Ray.

  • To me, this song is about your kids leaving home. Before you know it, they have grown up, become adults and left you with memories.

  • @onlinelondon Kirsty MacColl

  • everyone should check out luke kellys version of this WOW! classic song sung by an irish legend RIP. LUKE.

  • Nearly as good as Waterloo Sunset.

  • gay

  • @psnapplebee what a shame your mother wasn't. Then the world wouldnt have had to put up with a brain dead turd like you.

  • @psnapplebee twat

  • @cwerebad shut up bitch

  • yes indeed it is the moody blues at the end of this song.

  • INDEED AT THE END OF THIS SONG IS THE INTRO TO RIDE MY SEE SAW BY THE MOODY BLUES

  • Do I hear the start of ''Ride My See-Saw'' by The Moody Blues, at the end of the video!?

  • Rockin' the shades, Ray! I like it.

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful, bitter-sweet song.

  • everyone's opinion is so damn important, thank God my opinion isn't.

  • @CardiffBoy1927, I'm not angry my friend, I'm frustrated with people not caring. What makes it worse is that there's ignorance coupled with arrogance, which is a recipe for disaster.

  • The dislikes are probably, delusional rap music listeners with their pants hanging at half mast, sucking on crack pipes, beating their bitches and firing guns with no regard for human life. No wonder, they're depressed and angry, which results from ignorance. These idiots not only don't know anything, They only realise, vaguely, that somebody has screwed them out of something, but they don't have enough zest or bile to try to find out who screwed them and and what they were screwed out of.

  • @sarcasticus786 - Jeez, I wouldn't wanna get on the wrong side of you, you seem angry yourself.

  • @sarcasticus786 or maybe they did and found out it was this song all along, so they got on youtube and quickly pressed dislike as their cruel revenge

  • @sarcasticus786 Maybe they just didn't like Ray's sunglasses.

  • @sarcasticus786 the 37 dislikes probably are mentally retarded Lady Gaga worshipping DIPSHITS or Justin Bellend loving 4 year olds.

  • @sarcasticus786 The dislikes aren't from those people. Regular people dislike this.

  • @sarcasticus786 Why would a rap fan purposefully seek out a Kinks song?

  • @RDBeatnik

Sometimes I wonder about people who really HATE rap. Not just people who prefer something else, or people who don't much like it- but people for whom rap symbolises everything they hate about modern music. Would they have been against funk, R & B or rock 'n' roll? Would they have been telling us in the 1950's that Frank Sinatra was 20 times better than anything Chuck Berry or Ike Turner could come up with? And what would their motivation have been?

  • @anonUK Because rappers have no real talent. Chuck Berry is a real musician,He plays guitar sings not talks knows how to put together a medley Berry's guitar playing laid down the style of playing we still hear today. What have rappers done? NOTHING.

  • @anonUK

Ok bro, check out my mate, spaceman417 or my channel. German underground 'hip-hop', the text is brilliant!

  • @RDBeatnik ............because he prefers auctioneers to singers.

  • @RDBeatnik because it is never too late

  • @RDBeatnik

Ja. my current artist I'm doing videos for loves the kinks, but only after playing most of their songs! he loves the lyrics!

    & i love the kinks!

  • @RDBeatnik To beat your Euro ass to a pulp?

  • @sarcasticus786 my boxers are out but i don't really like rap but i do like this...

  • @sarcasticus786 OK, that made me laugh, even though the first sentence is rather impertinent and a trifle mean-spirited, but perhaps genuinely sarcastic as your handle implies. Regardless, it's so refreshing to come across an occasional youtube commenter who possesses an actual facility with the English language.

  • Love Ray's songs...simple...to the point....listen to the words....

He's pretty laid back and non assuming... ..unlike most of the rest...Days ..Waterloo Sunset....all his music ......Love the MAN !!! who could want for more...???

  • This is what they had to do to get on TV - sell outs!

  • Oh dear ,this allways gets me.Eyes gone, why is that?

  • Davies has a unique voice that brings memories, haters here are prepubescents that cannot appreciate real music. Actually, they don't even know good music. They are lost in their wet dreams and autoerotic lifestyle...

  • The old ones are the BEST.

  • fuckin awesome :-) the only two words to describe this track

  • Thank you for this awesome footage!!

    Nobody like The Kinks!!

  • "You're with me every single day, believe me. "

  • @Duenderelojero I know, man,

  • Musical Garbage

  • @mkbuddy Opinionated garbage. Touche.

  • This song speaks of generosity of spirit that few of us can muster at the end of a relationship.

  • @DDYTDY, generosity of spirit was the overarching ideal of the 60s/70s counter culture.

That culture didn't always live up to the ideal, of course, but I think we ought to give them marks for setting their standards a bit higher than their successors (my generation) in the 1980s (remember "greed is good"? - how mortifying!)

  • @EyeLean5280 Yeah, dude, and even worse look at now - Facebook and blogs. Our heart isn't even in the right place, at least they had that back then.

  • what, he was like 24 when he wrote this...the whole Village Green album in 1968 was already looking back wistfully on life

  • Wonderfull

  • It's a dark song ... he's havin a larf at the politicians and the times. I remember it well. But globalization has swamped such expertise.

  • He wasn't underrated.

  • Beautiful...How could Ray write this at such a young age...so KIND..so full of Gratitude...YOU can think of your Mom ...your Dad...your Child...your LOVE...your Bro ...your Sis...Thank You.....for being a part of my life !!! Living or Gone...You were part of my life !!!....What I learned from you......I Thank You !!! What you learn is not always...wonderful...but....I learned !!....Simplest & Most Beautiful Poem !..Thank You Ray...NINA

  • thank you for the days

  • The 27 people who voted thumbs down on this deserve to go deaf and blind.

  • @CatapultYourMom, harsh!

  • @CatapultYourMom they probably already are

  • @CatapultYourMom Amen, brother.

  • @CatapultYourMom They are deaf.....and blind.

  • @CatapultYourMom simpletons no hope for them

  • @CatapultYourMom Right coz they have a different opinion than you . lol

  • @CatapultYourMom Don't fret - they already are.

  • @CatapultYourMom Don't fret - they already are.
