@SuperTobias98 Acela Express runs at 150 mph (241 km/hr) on a couple of stretches in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. At Princeton Junction, where this video was filmed, it currently runs at 135 mph (217 km/hr) due to the variable tension catenary. Amtrak just received funding to upgrade this stretch to constant tension catenary, and when that's complete the Acela will run here at 160 mph (257 km/hr).
@SuperTobias98 Amtrak leased a few ICE1 sets and Swedish X2000's for testing on our North East Corridor.
This was to provide high speed transport to American citizens and then see which country we wanted to import from. We went with Bombardier Alstom collaboration who put the best of both the ICE and X2000 into one train set. Thus we get the Acela Express!
This is Princeton Junction, NJ. The ICE hit 162 mph on this stretch during test runs. More recently, the Acela Express also hit speeds in excess of 160 mph during testing here. In revenue service, the Acela Express runs at 135 mph on this segment of the route.
Here's why: Because the overhead catenary dates from the early 1930's and is not constant-tension, which is what you need to go faster than 135 MPH on this stretch.
79 mph, although there are a few exceptions. On the Northeast Corridor, where this train ran, there is a short stretch where 150 mph is allowed. Most everywhere else it's 125.
@cbehr91 Voltage in some parts north of NYC is 25 kilovolts at either 25 Hz or 60 Hz but south of NYC it is almost exclusively 11 kilovolts at 25 Hz. All trains on these lines can run on all voltage and frequency configurations. Some places between NJ and NYC it stays at 11 kilovolts due to the extra work required for insulation and clearances to allow for 25 kilovolts. The NEC is a ponderous electrical problem. Much of it south of NYC is powered by actual hydroelectric dams at 25 Hz.
what's the voltage (and if A/C) the frequency in the US? Did Siemens have to modify the ICE 1 for it to run over there? Looked good I have to say. I think the Voltage in Germany is 15kV at 16.66Hz.
On the Northeast Corridor, I think it is 25,000 V AC at 60Hz. The Harrisburg line from Harrisburg to Philadelphia is single-phase, 11,000 V AC at 25Hz.
@2GUNBOY Here in New Jersey it's 11 KV AC at 25 Hz until you reach somewhere near NY Penn Station where it becomes 12.5 KV AC at 60 Hz an continues that way through on Metro-North to New Haven where it becomes 25 KV AC at 60 Hz to Boston.
Could be, but only if it was one of the test runs. When they ran in revenue service with passengers, top speed was 135 mph. They got it as high as 162 on a test run near Princeton Junction.
that looks slightly faster than the 150 mph acela. dat looks like 169mph

this is crazy why don't they run the Acela express at 160 from New york to washington DC? and why just 135 mph on this strech?

whats the maximum speed limit 4 trains in America??
i didn´t know that b4 about the ICE in USA!!!
thats Ace....cool cool
btw, what's the voltage (and if A/C) the frequency in the US?

On most freight lines the maximum speed is
79 mph, although there are a few exceptions. On the Northeast Corridor, where this train ran, there is a short stretch where 150 mph is allowed. Most everywhere else it's 125.
I believe the voltage is 25,000 AC.

they should do that in all america with 150 mph!!!!
they´ve got to much old rail roads!!
have u guys still the ICE????
thats the fastest train in Germany:-D
but here in Scotland only Diesel:-D
thats so stupid!!!
to much hills here and not much straight lines:-D..
thats probably the main reason.
stupid highlands:-D

@cbehr91 It's 90 at Perryville because of the Sesquehanna River Bridge.
