10K plus revs is possible to a 20 valve...rebuild the engine using the Formula Atlantic Spec.....cranks, pneumatic valves to reduce the moving parts to the cylinder head, con-rods, and forged piston etc...
@muzixlo: you're an idiot. do your research first. WTF you mean you can 'rebuild' a formual atlantic 4AG to surpass 10k rev?!! explain why? A formula atlantic 4AGE's revs limited @ 10k; at that, produced 220ps, plenty hp for a 25+yr/ FWD car. and why TF you want to REBUiLT a race-spec motor?? explain? TRDs done extensive research on the 20V 4-AG.DO your research, know your TOYOTA references FIRST rather than spitting nonsense garbage you've obtained from watching INITIAL D! nuff said..
i hate reading comments on these AE86 videos, everyone thinks it's a 1986 car that redlines at 11,000 rpms. Actually do some research instead of learning everything from initial D
Ordering a blacktop for an 86 i just stripped down to the shell, and I'm really not looking forward to cutting the firewall :( Any tips/advice? And no, I can't afford a freedom ecu haha
Its not that hard to do. Get ae86 waterpump and housing, block bypass pipe hole at top of rear housing, bolt on, drill small holes in thermostat. block off water outlet on exhaust side of head. Mod top waterpipe on head so it faces forwards and up slightly, like factory AE86 setup. Block off rear of head with thick plate and mill behind it so water flows between the two outlets. Remove dizzy cap, run aftermarket ECU with waste spark. Use RWD alternater bracket, mod to clear hydraulic tensioner.
Thats about it really, works a treat and looks way tidier than having looong waterpipes over exhaust manifold. Also removing dizzy cap and using plate on back of head means no firewall beatings. A good ECU is a good way to unlock the potential of the 20v. Im presently doing a blacktop swap in to my AE85 Levin notchback.
you rev up to a certain RPM which is where you get the most torque, once you hit your maximum, you shift and rev on that next gear. That is why they invented the tachometer...
to make your engine rev higher like to 10K or 11K..you have to get lighter internals and the works. it can be done but it's spendy. And your idle will be kinda high if you want to rev that far..just my input.
lol some comment r crap ups. not everything u watch on tv is true. first of all no it only revs to 8k from factory. but u can tune it to bout 9500rpm max. at 1000rpm crank will break it cant handle it. so to get 11k rpm u need alot more then a tacho. silvertop puts out 160hp with the 8k redline. the 11k version is the atlantic it puts out jus over 250hp. oil and water pumps dont handle 11k rpm and to make power in high revs u need high compression pistons like 13.1
A silvertop is AFM and the Blacktop is MAP. The blacktop is the revision of the silvertop and is a little bit more powerful from stock (only by 5BHP if I remember correctly) and came with a lightweight flywheel. Both from stock aren't capable of going up to 11,000RPM, a lot of cash needs to be splashed out to achieve those figures.
your listenin to utada hikaru huh? lol nice vid

i love eurobeat. you need to get the distributor and waterline relocator kit so you dont have to cut the firewall.

Are you honestly listening to eurobeat? haha.

Is it simple to swap from a stock engine in an old corolla to a 4age 20v?
nuke00 3 years ago
Whats a old corolla to you? If your talking about an SR5 AE86 then it is difficult.. there's alot ALOT of cutting involved.

gotta noob question....revving higher or lower...whats it used for a why? I drive autom and manual...not much but rev on low rpms.

it's not the internals on the bottom end that matter...it's the head that needs to be built in order to rev that high...

Most of these guys who say they can go to 11k don't own a 20v, other wise you wouldn't say ignorant stuff like that.

Don't fret about the 11,000 rev idiots. They all watched Initial D and think all 20v motors *must* be able to go that high because of the show.
