How would you suggest I start clicker training my the year old cat she is food motivated but i`m having a hard time with encouraging her to try things to get the treats how should I get her motivated.
Pretty kitty. Wanted to say thanks. I was looking for some ideas for new tricks for my two kitties who love their clicker time, but need a new challenge. This totally fits the bill and watching how you shaped the behavior is really helpful. I've posted a video response so you can see my two potential skateboarders. Again thanks, and "good girl."
@pixyy2 you find something the cat likes. Tuna and yogurt are popular (yogurt not milk). Or simply buy or prepare some plain chicken breast pieces (without spices, salt or pepper!)
But usually the problem is that people over feed their cats to begin with;
training an overfed cat is like trying to get a millionaire to work a minimum wage job.
So short answer: Yes reward positition matters. For this behavior I want movement from Jazzy so I am rewarding in multiple locations to keep her moving back towards the board since I eventually want her to run and jump on it as it is moving. Then I started tossing the treats ahead of the board to encourage movement that direction. :)
awesome video! I miss clicker training with my cat (had to rehome him before moving to the UK). Have you noticed at all it it would help to feed on the skateboard vs. away from the target object? I try to click for behavior, feed for / in position ... but never know if it really makes THAT much of a difference, since a marker is used anyways. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for posting!
very cool Jackie, and might I say I was impressed by how much progress you made with your kitty in such a short session, if only Snooty were so cooperative.
