It takes an average of an hour a day for two months (30-60 hours of use) to get to 40-60 words per minute. Musicians and video gamers seem to learn faster than mere mortals. Also, playing video games which require the use of many keys (and which allow you to remap the keys) can speed up your typing learning curve.
My one complaint about the alpha grip is the fact that it really isn't any better for traveling. My fold out keyboard takes less space. I'm not quite sure what market you're trying to reach.
Perhaps if you created PS3/XBOX360 controller version which would allow you to play and chat...
Even then it seems like a steep learning curve for limited utility.
People use AlphaGrips as an ergonomic alternative to deskbound keyboards. They like to lean back away from their desk with their hands resting in their lap while working or playing on their computer. There are also AlphaGrip users who use it with their laptops while walking on a treadmill. In the future, we hope to produce an AlphaGrip smart phone which would have increased functionality by enabling comfortable, truly mobile, 60 wpm typing (see AlphaGrip iGrip Phone Presentation on YouTube).
@zhestah I love this idea! Exercise and work at the same time, more free time for other stuff now. I love multitasking, it buys me a lot of extra time!
True, I'm not much of a runner, especially while holding an AlphaGrip with both hands, but I was a pretty good wrestler back in the day. You're correct with regard to a split AlphaGrip, an issue I addressed in a previous post.
The AlphaGrip does not come with a Dvorak layout, but users have posted free scripts on the AlphaGrip wiki that provide a Dvorak-compatible layout. You can get there by going to the remaps page of the AlphaGrip website (in the Support menu) and then clicking on the link at the bottom of the page and then clicking on the Character Layout link.
Considering the nature of the AlphaGrip, I don't think there could be a true Dvorak layout, really you can only create a layout that follows the principles behind the original Dvorak layout for normal keyboards.
I really don't see the point in typing and surfing the web while running on a treadmill...theres no way it would feel right, your mind would be too much set on the treadmill.
The focus of the video is walking while working on a computer, which some doctors recommend. The running part was included for fun. I agree it's not practical, but only because holding the AlphaGrip with two hands is not conducive to running. With a split AlphaGrip, however, which would allow your hands to move independently of each other, running and typing would be more practical. Many people do their best thinking while running, and recording their thoughts in real-time may be attractive.
Oh god, THAT WOULD BE FUCKING FUNNY IF THE COMP FELL OFF AND HE FUCKING TRIPPED OVER IT LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

If starting to "pop up on fail [sic] peripheral lists" means "out of production," then we hope to rectify that problem next month.

Instead of typing, I use Nuance dragon naturally speaking voice recognition. Works better than typing...for me.

Do you use a keyboard and mouse or voice for editing?
mwillner 3 years ago
You can use either method; however voice editing is limited. I use that voice recognition software infrequently because I like to type.
I use a logictech marble mouse with a wireless keyboard. Look it up on the net.

you run like a duck, it needs to be two pieces one for each hand so that you can move your hands

you run like a duck . . . it needs to be two pieces to be effective one for each hand

Of course you have to spend months getting used to the controller, just like any regular keyboard
