  • @Mr007bozo

Thanks for the invite. LOL! I would like to go back with the knowledge I have today.

Not so many worries back then.

  • hit it clyde, oh ya,,,,, thank ya oh ya

  • My mother was a huge fan. She used to play a lot of his music when I was a kid.

    Many thanks for posting.

    Keep this great music alive.

  • @coffeeicecream1

Yes, he certainly could. I love his tenor voice. Thanks for commenting!

  • AND IT'S A-CAPELLA (no instruments) PURE TALENT.

  • the howard theater clyde and brook & dianna washington

  • this song was in the movie mischef. with kelly preston. great music from 1956 era

  • In response to the Sam Cooke photo, it was more than likely a mistake, however, Clyde and Sam were good friends. Both were civil rights activist and participated in lots of activities against racism and Jim crow laws of the times.Check out a book on Sam's life called, "Dream Boogie", by Peter Guralnick; Clyde is mentioned several times, as is Jackie Wilson, they all hit the road together and hang out, etc.

  • WTF: Whats with the Sam Cooke photo at 1:25???

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER

Yes...I know about it. My bad!

  • @carann5 Shame how this kind of talent no longer exists or is not in the spotlight. Tragic how many greats never made it out of their 40's. Elvis, John Lennon, Sam Cook, Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell, Jackie Wilson, Clyde McPhatter, Bobby Darin, Otis Redding.

  • i keep reading posts about how this was the greatest era for music. well, i am one of those 'young and noisy" musicians. and i am here to tell you that it will probably be quite some time before we see another 50's spike in creativity. and in my opinion it was timing. nowadays we have tons of musicians that would love to make a living doing small shows. but it just isn't like that anymore. i think until you take some of the money out of it, you won't hear anything like the 50's. and its sad

  • Id love to go out on a tv show today and sing this song and make it a hit againt! The music from this time is timeless....No one could sing it better though! But id try, lol! Great song thank you.

  • @montelee

The songs back then were easier to sing to than the music of today. And you could

understand the words! Thanks for your comment.

  • From Chinese Scholar in Asia: A lovely song! This American Negro is very talented

  • @ccasia2008 yes he was

  • @ccasia2008 perhaps to say "this man" and forget color or race or religion. There are men and women of all races and religions, and colors that can make great music. I tend to judge the music on its merits alone.

  • Clyde McPhatter had one of the biggest hits, great song.

  • Just a minor issue... Since Clyde was born in Nov of 1932 and died in June of 1972, he never made it to his 40th birthday. He was only 39 when he passed. Such a waste of great talent. Too bad he just could not keep it together. I have always loved this recording. My shower often gets to hear the bass line when I have recently heard it played. Thanks for posting your video.

  • Clyde started as lead singer of Billy Ward`s Dominos then joined the Drifters as lead, and left the Drifters for solo career, starting with this song. The terrific back-round bass was done by the Brooke Benton. He was replaced by Jackie Wilson, as lead singer for Billy Ward`s Dominos.

  • um i have a question..at the beginning of your video it says 1952-1972..but then at the end it said he died at age 40? unless 1952 - 1972 was his career.. i dont know.. but i was just wondering! haha good video 5/5

  • @CheekSqeeker15

Ooops! It should have read 1932 - 1972.

Thanks for your comment and for catching this Cole!

  • @CheekSqeeker15 I noticed that too. Some bad math. That means he was still a child at the peak of his career.

  • @speakwhnspkn2

Not bad math, just an honest mistake. I'm the first to admit I'm not perfect.

So sorry speak and Cheek or Squeek or whatever!

  • man this was awesome music so much soul ! sad i missed them years

  • @daviswhitetrash music is a time machine. No need to miss them, just roll out the tunes daddy o!

  • one of the best singers of the 50's

  • Absolutely beautiful song!!

  • Has anybody out there heard the song One More Chance by Clyde? It's a real tear jerker and the lyrics go something like this:

When I hurt you I was too proud to ask your forgiveness my dear

Though I knew deep within me, the words you wanted to hear

But my pride just wouldn’t let me say what I felt in my heart

As I walked away that fateful day all of our dreams fell apart etc. etc.

Dying to hear the song again, somebody please help if you can!
