Schickele adds some visual bits to the 40+ year-old recording of "New Horizons." I'm curious who "Orchestra 'X'" is; they're a young group who plays beautifully, gets the humor timing very well, and resists the urge to smile when they're part of the act. Much of the audience still misses the humor in calling the horn player "Bobby Corno" and the oboe player "Highwood" (hautbois). In what year was this video taped? Schickele remains in top form decades after he first "discovered" P.D.Q. Bach.
@semarcus1 Well, the Hall is Stude Concert Hall at the Shepherd School of music at Rice University, but the cheerleaders have university of houston apparel; I guess it could be an in-town rivalry game :)
"And they seem to be breaking up into little pieces " " I t seems to be a disgraceful lack of teams man ship" TWICE THIS WEEK in front of everyone ! Please blow a whistle !!!!!
10:35 video: "Orchestra X" performs 1st movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 with Peter Jacoby conducting; commentary by Peter Schickele (born July 17, 1935).
I was the "B" in Beethoven onstage in the late 1970s in the preface to a performance of this at The University of Texas at Austin with Peter Schickele (born July 17, 1935).
That was the funniest PDQ Bach event ever recorded. The first time I heard it on my original LP, I couldn't remain seated as I was laughing too hard. It also was a great way to teach sonata form. Thanks for posting the new version.
0:53 horn flub fingering - If you're a horn player you can tell that the hornist is using the fingering for written Db on the Bb (thumb) side, or Gb in concert pitch. The fingering for the correct note - written C - is either no valves or thumb only, and cannot be flubbed into a Db. You'd get a D without the thumb valve or an out-of-tune Eb with the thumb. So it was really Peter Schiekele who flubbed the note by not understanding horn harmonics!

Orchestra's attempt at one-upping the music-sport of marching band?

Being an orchestra nerd, this made me laugh SO hard! So many jokes that non-musicians just can't relate to...

I love this idea of instant replay! Why don't we always have that at orchestra concerts? I'd like to see that in some Stravinsky pieces...

I wonder how many people that watch this don't realize how much harder it is to play something like this instead of just doing it the regular way.
