- Get an Satellite map of NY

- download all NY 3D buildings from Sketchup

- place the 3D building in the right place.

And you are done!

dude you shouldn't have copied all those real buildings because it doesn't look unique. Maybe if you make another city, be more creative. look at ZEROflawgunners city. All the buildings are created by himself including the monorail cars. Thats right there is awesome.

@casperisl First i didnt copied all the buildings only a few landmarks. 95% of the buildings in there is self made.

Second.

Copying is a way of learning.

You can only create so much if you never copied any thing.

in another words. i'd have no clue how to do certain buildings unless i;ve saw someone elses and done a similar model. from there on i can improve and create my own.

you could never mod this for a game because game engines only recognize triangles and sketch up doesn't create models like 3ds max does. max welds the joints and u need joints for windows and stuff or else ur lighting would look shit.

i use sketch up to create concepts for my levels that r built in 3ds max. its a mint tool for this, quick and easy and looks impressive.

Im making 6km sq area of a city which has a lot of Buildings. Some buildings i've made it myself but some, I've downloaded it from 3d warehouse.

Currently, My city have more than 30 buildings... And the problem is my work is so slow as the buildings increases and sometimes my PC crashed cause of it. How come yours just fine? Is there anything that I could do to prevent this things? Mail me if you want to tell me about it?
