True masters at the guitar right here its ridiculous how crazy the verses are very complexed music theory but they make that guitar fuckin bad ass sounding
@MetaI4Brains got some idea of the album its about the elements of fire n all that and whats beyond the barrier of the sky hence crack the skye and be lost in oblivion
It's based on the element aether. It's about a paraplegic who astral travels into outer space, gets sucked into a wormhole that sends him back in time, and hs soul is put in Rasputin's body. When Rasputin is killed, their souls are released and Rasputin trys to lead the boy back to his own body. But the devil discovers them and trys to steal their souls.
@GetFuckingAngry people keep telling me the meaning of the album i dont think many actually know im gonna stick with what i read and its about the dummers sisters suicide -_- i know alot out certain bands that some people wouldn't
I LOVE the fact that Brann (the drummer) got to do a lot of the vocal work on this one. it just goes to show how versatile all the members of the band really are.
@DarkieTaco I love Mastodon but as far as versatility goes they aren't really anything special. I mean it doesn't make you a multi-instrumentalist if you can play an instrument and also sing. But there are bands out there with members who are virtuosoes on 10 different instruments each.
@Sunchild333 True. But playing ten instruments doesn't necessarily mean you can write interesting music that's enjoyable to listen to. It just means you can play ten instruments.
@PurpleAsparagus Of course it doesn't make you a good composer. That also requires some talent and feeling. It usually can be interesting but if it's enjoyable, well, that's a subjective matter. I like Mastodon very much because I like innovative music. I also listen to a lot of 70's avantgarde which I bet 90% of Mastodon listeners would hate. But from an objective point of view that music is much more innovative than Mastodon.
@Sunchild333 Trying to compare Frank Zappa's music to Mastodon's is like comparing apples to kumquats. You deserve to be punched and/or blacklisted from the internet for even attempting such stupidity. This is coming from a composer, by the way.
I totally fuckin' agree mate... the chorus makes my skin crawl simultaneous with an out of body experience. The same with the last verse in 'The Czar'
The part starting with the words "Spiraling up through the crack in the sky... Leaving material world behind"
@irontusk341 I didn't say the sound like Rush. I said they sound rush influenced. Metallica was influenced by Rush but they don't sound like them. And Nirvana was influence by 'tallica but they don't sound like either one.
This is a bad ass song. Me and a buddy are going to put some Charmed videos on my youtube page so I am going to put this song on my second video. The one we just put on was an test. any one want to see got to my page SoulsOfSteel1987.
