Oh wow I was just thinking the other day about my captain power ship/gun thing. I never had the tapes though I don't think. And is it just me or are today's commercials just lame after watching this lol
I remember Friut Wrinkles! Fruit Corners was a small fruit snack company that was brought by General Mills in 1988, Betty Crocker is the parent company of General Mills. Yeah, I remember those dumbass 1-900 party lines for kids. Thank God no kid I knew was that gullible. LOL a VHS game. What a piece of shit no wonder Radio Shack and Hasbro scrapped plans for a VHS console.
Purr-tenders kinda looks cool for young children, could/should be revived. "Captain Power Videotapes" looks like a slightly less dreadful version of the Action Max. I feel sorry for the Trix rabbit. I am *not* shocked that I'm watching a whole bunch of commercials from before I was born.....Everybody's doing it.
@80sCommercialVault Regarding the guitarist in the Snickers commercial, I think he's very convincing. He uses the same tapping technique popularized by Eddie Van Halen and other guitarists during that time.
Wow FRUITY CRISPIES, fruit wrinkles Pudding Roll ups..I forgot all about those...good times..that hot wheels set ans smack looked like a straight DUD!
@timcich Yes I am pretty sure that is Chris Young , actor who starred in The Great Outdoors (with John Candy, Dan Aykroyd) and who also played Bryce Lynch in the recently re-released Max Headroom series (On DVD!) I spotted Chris in an Epcot center ad as well, in an earlier edition of 80's commercials that OP posted. :)
Wait, was there a time where families were saying "no honey you can't get a cat, but if you see a rabbit its yours"? Shouldn't it be rabbits pretending to be cats rather than the other way around.
Yes, I know I take these commericals too seriously.
Oh, that Cinderella ad brings back a painful memory: running up my parents' phone bill dialing some 976 number I'd seen on TV. $2.00 per minute, indeed!
These commercials embody the spirit of the 80's (And my own personal memories of childhood and watching cartoons) than anything else on my channel. So my response to that is basically "WTF dude?".
@Icemangqx yyyyyeah....now that I look at this commercial again, maybe it is not so 2000's. I meant that the interview-style commercial was a bit ahead of its time.
@territorygal Wow, people are really roasting me for that comment. Geez.
I was born in 1990! I know almost NOTHING about the 1980s. I'm only comparing these commercials to similarities I find in modern commercials because that's what I grew up with. My days have almost nothing in common with the 1980's, and never will.
@SouthwesternEagle Perhaps then, you shouldn't make statements like "These don't really "feel" like 80's commercials" without having a basic understanding of what 80's commercials "feel" like.
@SouthwesternEagle Oh, I wasn't putting you down or anything. I apologise if it came off that way. I was trying to say that I think you have a point. :) While many aspects of advertising have changed over the years (jingles, target markets, quality), there are a few basic elements that remain timeless - particularly in that Snickers ad you mentioned. The fact that you didn't grow up in the 80s, but could still relate, is only a testament to their timelessness. That's not a bad thing.
@SouthwesternEagle These guys are being a little hard you. I think all your'e saying is advertising has changed very little in 30 years. The only thing different are the clothes and hair of the actors. Remember kid, the more things change, the more they stay the same :-)
Given that I remember nearly every one of these commercials, there's no telling just how much truly awful kiddie TV I watched back in the 80s. I remember being tempted to call a 976 number once (I think for Christmas stories straight from "Santa"), but did actually seek my parents' permission. My mom made it clear in no uncertain terms that permission was denied.
I think that Angry Video Game Nerd a.k.a. Angry Nintendo Nerd should review the Captain Power video game/video tapes. Of all video games, video game systems, or whatever else with video or TV technology from the 80s, A.V.G.N. would have fun reviewing Captain Power.
The first clip on the cinnamon toast chrunch they had three characters, now they only have one the one with the glasses they dropped the other two you dont see them no more.
Oh and PS: Pudding Roll Ups were absolutely delicious. They really did taste like melted chocolate that was then dried and turned chewy. Tasted more like hot chocolate, really.
@DinkCincinnati For foot fetishists! LOL You're right though. Filmed in the same manner and from the looks of it, starring one of the same kind of actresses.
fruity marshmallow krispies man i use to eat that cereal every morning when i was a kid there was nothing like getting up on a saturday morning watching cartoons with a big bowl of that cereal
I was in 2nd grade when these commercials were out. Who could forget Captain Power? I had the white ship and my friend had the black on. I remember the VHS tape, which came with it. Of course, G.I. Joes and Transformers were the shit, then. I liked M.A.S.K., Bionic Six, Voltron, Silverhawks and the list goes on. If you haven't noticed, I miss the 80's.
Who cares about that Wonder Years actor in #17? Too easy. What about #5? The eldest kid is the same eldest son of John Candy in The Great Outdoors, so ha! Who else caught that one? :-P
ok first kind of ironic to have tv spots for a movie about aliens who watch T.V., i.e. Explorers, second in your info you talk about strange stuffed animals, well lets not forget the popells, yes lets teach our children to turn animals inside out , lol. sick and twisted, I loved em lol.
Oh God, what memories!!! Fruit Wrinkles! Pudding Roll-Ups!! Dino-Riders! I remember them all!! LOL! Can you even still buy Trix in Canada?? Every grocery store I go to, doesn't seem to carry them anymore.

What happened to the two younger chefs? It seems they narrowed it down to just the older guy. I think they even got rid of him since then. I could be wrong.
Maybe it's because it was considered to close to Snap, Crackel and Pop. You know, 3 characters.
As for the General Mills cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix, Lucky Charms and Cheerios, this was long before General Mills started to put "Whole Grain" in all of the cereals including these which are all contains whole grain to reduced the risk of health disease. Cheerios has low sodium to prevent heart disease. And it's got lots of healthy choices to start with. It is more than fiber.
the older kif from the "captain power" commerical is the actor Chris Young alot of the older people will remember him as the young pre-frosh from the movie "PCU" with Jeremy Piven, John Favreau, and David Spade
These are great! I was in the same elementary school as the blonde boy in the fruity marshmallow krispies commercial. And it was great to hear the TV44 voiceover guy after all these years. Thanks for posting these. :)
nobody believes me when i tell them there were 3 bakers in the toast crunch commercials but now i can prove them wrong once and for all!!! muwahahaha!!!!

That's who he is. I knew I recognized him, but I couldn't place him. PCU rules...love that movie. "Hey Hey! Ho Ho! This penis party's got to go!"

These are great! I was in the same elementary school as the blonde boy in the fruity marshmallow krispies commercial. And it was great to hear the TV44 voiceover guy after all these years. Thanks for posting these. :)
