Was that Jack Wilkins on the double Town Hall concerts with Buzzy Pizzarelli and George Barnes among others. I bought that record in the late 60s. Can it be this guys been improvising on the guitar that long?
The tune's name is called Stablemates by Benny Golson. I think it refers to fellow members of Woody Herman's Herd when Benny was playing with him, but don't quote me. I'll search the internet and see what I can find out. The first time I heard it was on Miles Davis New Quintet, the first Miles record with Coltrane. Miles plays it much slower and laid back.
no problem, I would agree with your comment, they are certainly no slouches, and as I have been lucky enough to meet Jack on a few occasions I can only say that not only is he a great Player,he is also one of the nicest guys you could meet. regretfully I have never met the very talented Sheryl
I've only met Sheryl very briefly but she comes across as a very nice person (as is made obvious by this clip). She's also a wonderful player and a fine composer. I had a chance about 15 years ago to have dinner and a short jam with Jack and he is a legend. Maybe your initial comment was not aimed at mine but rather the uncanny interplay and virtuosity displayed by these two greats.
Man these lines need some kind of transcribing. Keep real music life. Thanks for posting.

It was a light hearted comparison. I adore the records Bean and Pisano made together but Jack and Sheryl are no slouches either.
