  • another great tune

  • This is one of those gems from the 70s that never charted very high, but probably should have based on its merits. The lyrics make you empathize with all the characters involved: the man who is losing his love, the "other man" losing his friend, and the woman who is caught in the middle. Every good song tells a story, and this song certainly does that.

  • Este tema era uno de mis favoritos en mis años de colegio, me recuerda los años de las discotecas en mi natal san pedro sula honduras

  • Thanks Mike........

  • My BEST song....EVER!!! Larry Santos' music had an impact on me back in 1976... and forever on!!! Larry's THE BEST!!! Jack in Tampa.

  • Hey Music Mike, thank-you for this all-time 70's " hidden classic". It's a song I never--ever, tire of hearing or playing on my turntable. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o & another " Mike".

  • I own BOTH the album & the 45 of this magnificent song. In '76, it was big--very big, in Denver, & it's one of my all-time favorites. I recognized Larry's name, from Candy Girl--my all time #1 by The 4 Seasons. Thank-you Larry for both songs! Wolfsky9

  • Larry was never huge anywhere!!!!! He had a very small cult following especially in Detroit!!

  • @ted7441 Exactly. He was NEVER huge. I do think though that he had a bigger than cult following in Detroit. I grew up there and with him and he was everywhere in Detroit and elsewhere around Michigan and Toledo because of its proximity to Detroit. besides being a huge jingle man and sitting next to a green puppet, he never did anything with his talent.

  • I re-heard this song when I purchased Barry Scott's Lost 45's a few years ago. I remember it barely scraping the charts back when I was a kid in 76. I liked it then - even though I was into much more faster..such as KISS, Styx, Heart...etc. His voice cuts right through you and it is sung with such emotion. I didn't understand all that then but I do know. Totally awesome song - the words stand in front of the music and both elements are outstanding - you don't hear this very often anymore.

  • OMG...forgot all about this song! Just listened to the old Casey Kassem American Top 40 countdown on Sirius XM. They were counting down April 10, 1976. I was a senior in high school then and I remember liking this song back at that time. Amazing how they never play one-hit wonders like this great one. That's why we forget about them. Thanks, Mike, for keeping these wonderful memories alive!

  • I remember walking the streets of Syracuse NY as a 16yr old and hearing this song flowing out the front door of a local dive bar. Of course, back then if you had a little "stache" they'd let you in. Drank an underage beer or two to this great song. Ah, summer!

  • Che sound!!!!!!

  • Song is a kick-ass song. The radio stations have forgotten about this one which is too bad.

  • The voice is so unique it send chills down my spine. OMG I love the song

  • Loved this song when I was messing around years ago, have since changed my ways. It is so sad Larry Santos didn't get further, this album was so very good!

  • como es posible q en mi propia cara se burlen de mi

  • If you like this song, then you should check out his song "I Can't Get You Off My Mind". I think it's an even better song, and one that definitely should have been a hit.

  • Absolutely loved this song back then, and still now. Thank you Mike!

  • Mike, great post and intro. Keep up the good work

  • mike..you are great...

  • I have 3 lps; Larry should have been a superstar!

  • Another great track, Mike!

Sounds like it should have been a much bigger hit.

  • @MusicMike2 MUsic Mike, I have a question : do you recall a song from Summer of '66, called " Impressions", by a group called The Jones Boys? I'[ve been asking around, & no one seems to remember it. However, in LA, that Summer of '66, it was very big on KHJ, the #1 AM Top 40 Station. Do you remember it at least ? I have the 45, & if I ever learn how to do it, maybe I'll download it myself. Can you let me know if you do at least, remember the song? Thank-you, Wolfsky9.

  • @Wolfsky9 -- Yes, I do remember the song....although it wasn't played in Ohio where I grew up. I heard it years later. BTW, you can hear it on You Tube. Just search Jones Boys....

  • @MusicMike2 Sir, sorry, but it's not on You Tube--at least, not as The Jones Boys, Impressions, --or " jones Boys". I keep hoping someone will evetually put it on You Tube! I loved the song, & in LA, it was huge. Wolfsky9

  • @Wolfsky9 ----- Yes, it is on YouTube......search as Jones Boys - Impressions. It comes right up for me.

  • @MusicMike2 Sir, I soo apologize! I found it--under " The Jones Boys, Impressions". Thank-you so very, very much for letting me know! Interestingly, the entry is from a guy who mentions that he listened to the song on 950 KIMN in Denver--my home town, & a station that played a huge role in my musical youth! As it haqppened, Summer '66, I was in LA , working / living with my Older Sister & her family. The song was huge on KHJ, 930 AM, & it made it to # 14.. A wonderful memory. Wolfsky9

Larry was huge in Detroit (as well as other cities across America) because of his dedication to R&B and a resurgence of that smooth vocal styling of the 60's that Motown founded. Philly had their own. Larry hosted a childrens show called Hot Fudge that was produced in Detroit but was nationally syndicated. Arte Johnson (Laugh In fame) did the first year but left abruptly. Larry didnt miss a beat, literally.
