I figured out what this song is about.The boy is his younger self full of hopes and dreams and optimism. Where the world seemed to be his, where his future seemed so bright and wonderful.Then there's the cynic which is reality attacking his dreams and hopes. He sees everyone in their horrible selves fighting their own problems.The problems of the world are the glowing stars against a black sky. It's the battle between the hope of his youth and the despair of his life that's slowing down.a guess.
