i rotated the the choke coil counterclockwise and the choke plate did snap shut but i started it and it idled really high not normal choke idle and and it acted like the idle was slowing down but it just started idling high again ?? please help me im lost ???????????????????
Hi, I have a scooter with a 150cc 4 stroke engine. Since you know your auto chokes, , What would happen if a auto choke, suddenly fell completely off the carburetor?
@WhoSaidTyler It's been easy to start but I've only started in inside my house, or immedeiately after getting it outside, or outside while the engine is still warm. (Too cold to work on it outside here in Minnesota.)
There seems to be a air channel created when the enricher is bolted to the side of the carb.
Does that sound like something that would cause a misfire at (and only at) higher speed?
i have a 1978 rochester quadrajet 4mv my fast idle is out of adjustment it is hard to choke when cold my carb number is 17058213 please help me to adjust my fast idle
I have a 1978 el camino with a quadrajet carb. today i was cleaning the carb with carb cleaner and i started it up afterward and now when i start it up it runs on high. i looked at the throttle and it was stuck so i pushed it back where it is supposed to be and i started it and it gets stuck AGAIN ! . what do i do ???? i need Help !!!
Hi Tyler, so I recently replaced the fuel filter on my rochester 4bl on my 79 caddy and I am having that problem that you specifically talked about in one of your videos. I replaced the filter and now it drips from the inlet nut housing. I it took it back off and i either dropped it the first time and didn't realize or something because its not there now. Could you by any chance give me the dimensions of the gasket or where to find the dimensions so i can have Napa punch me out a new one? Thanks
@piroguy14 I don't have access to that info unfortunately. Your best bet would be to take the filter housing with you, but keep in mind that gasket is nylon(plastic), not paper or rubber. You can also check the replacement filters to see if they include a seal. I often buy a carb kit just to use for spare gaskets, it'll have one in it.
@WhoSaidTyler Well I took the inlet fitting off again and it turns out that the gasket is for a 1" diameter inlet and the gasket is located on the forward edge of the inlet fitting not the sealing flange, and it was there! I was so worried about over torquing the inlet fitting that i just didn't tighten it enough I guess. I tightened it up and no more leak. Its all trial and error at this point, this is my first project car ever so I'm learning as i go along, Thanks again
I have a automatic electric choke on a Quadrajet on my 305 engine. The Carb has been rebuilt. Can't seem to make adjustments that will make my Chevy truck drivable. It will idle in park but the minute you put it into drive it stalls. I have noticed that the choke plate flutters a bit when it is open (hot). I suspect I either have some sort of vacuum leak. Is it the linkage responsible for holding the choke plate open steady or is it the vacuum?. Please give me your thoughts on this.
on my ridin mower, i love having a manual choke. that old carb has seen better days, and i have to pull it apart for cleaning 3 or 4 times a season. if im mowin and it gets really dusty, the carb will start cloging. when it starts to clog, i can give it just a little choke to bring it back from lean
my choke on my M4ME carb on my 1986 350 suburban was wired open when i bought it, and the low idle screw was screwed all the way in, so it was idling like 2000 rpm. i removed the wire, and choke plate. set the idle, and got the linkages working.now, i need to put the choke plate back on now. the choke missing doesnt affect my worn carb that much, because it runs super rich anyways. i know before long, im going to replace my carb
@WhoSaidTyler Hey sir, I have a question if could please help me with, i have a 1968 El Camino Malibu Deluxte, (it had a 307 with 2 speed) now its got a 350 with a TH350 that the previous owner put in, Its a post 79 engine and carb from what i think since its got an electric choke but with a plug to the round thermostat (I think) well anywho, when my engine is cold and i start it up, itll fire up no problem but itll sit there and idle at like 2500 3k rpm, which is very annoying since i have to
@KCBCA stay there for about 4 min till it warms up and give it gas so itll kick down back to a normal rpm... but if i start it after during the day "with the temp above 100" itll start up fine and idle normally, but if its left for a bit and then started during the day, itll rev up again i cannot for the life of me figure it out of what it is, can you please help me sir? you know more im 20 and am having my fair share of muscle car experience, but I cant find out what it may be? any suggestions
@KCBCA Your problem appears to be that the fast idle setting is too high. There is a SEPARATE adjustment screw for that, and it's located on the passenger side of the carb between the choke housing and the carb itself, at the bottom. You'll have to really peer in there and find it, but it's there. I'm not talking about the two idle mixture screws which are on the base of the carb facing front. The one you want is far on the passenger side.
@KCBCA It faces the front of the car. Get yourself a short screwdriver that you are sure will fit in there and start the engine cold. Let it idle fast as you describe and begin turning that screw out(counter clockwise) The idle should start dropping down to a more reasonable level. Adjust it so it's still idling faster than when warmed up but not crazy fast. Again, this screw is located on the PASSENGER side of the carb. It doesn't screw into the carb itself.
@WhoSaidTyler hmm, so its facing me? and wow thank you for your help sir, honestly ive been searching high and low and couldnt find what to do, and I didnt want to just start turning carb screws and mess everything up or start changing fuel/air and what not, but again thank you so much sir, your help is much appreciated! cant wait for more videos! thanks again!
When i hit the gas with the engine off the choke doesent snap shut ?? i dont know why ? i have a 78 el camino with a electric automatic choke

How would the engine perform?
Hooverdarnit 3 months ago
@Hooverdarnit probably wouldn't affect it unless it created a vacuum leak. Of course, it would also be hard to start.

a manual choke wouldnt bother me in a car, and if it was a classic, like 40's or 50's, i'd make sure it was manual.
