@Mrmcdrumlover94 Generally, the only college competitions are for HBCU's. That's a very different environment. Schools like Texas do tend to march exhibition at high school contests, though.
@Mrmcdrumlover94 We don't compete with our halftime shows, but we do use a more contemporary style during halftime. At the Division I level, there isn't much reason to do any kind of competition. LHB has always been about entertainment value and just putting on a show, not so much about a DCI level of precision with marching. We do occasionally use arrangements from DCI bands though.
@slwdsm This the band entrance 30-45 minutes before game time. The stands were packed by the time the game started. People were still outside the stadium tailgating etc.

The Longhorn Band is about to see what a real college band is like...none of the simple stuff you see above....The Million Dollar Band of The University of Alabama will dazzle the Rose Bowl crowd on 1/7/2010.....Get ready longhorns, the Million Dollar Band is on its way.....
Southern Voice snippet (with apologies to Tim McGraw) ... "Hunter Lawrence won it... Smooth as the hickory wind that blows from Austin 'round to Apalachacola it's 'hi y'all did ya eat well come one in, I'm sure glad to know ya Don't let this old gold cross and this Texas Longhorn tee shirt throw ya it's a Heisman for Colt McCoy with a Southern Voice" HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!
Heck yes. I was in College Station last night for a high school football game, and the marching band played an excerpt of the Fight song, and my band director and i both held our 'Horns" high right in front of the Aggie crowd. Twas a nice moment :)
@outlawedman Bertha might actually be related to Purdue's drum in some way. It was made for U of Chicago back in the 20's. They scrapped their football team and UT bought the drum in the 50s I believe. Bertha has been a part of LHB ever since. I don't think Texas fans ever think of Purdue much, so I wouldn't say that LHB is trying to one up Purdue. Just happens to be similar is all.
@KKJahn In the 60's, Arkansas had a drum built that was bigger than texas' drum. The heads were too thin on ours to play on though. Unfortunately, the drum's whereabouts are not known at the moment. We have many pictures of it though!
What a band. They are amazing. Our daughter wants to go there when she graduates.

Ok. Does this school do an actual halftime show? Like for competition or something?
