Wind screen tests are one thing...what about an A/B test of the different input settings i.e. WAV and mp3 settings and sampling rates 44.1 and 48? or using the filters i.e. -40 -80 -120 and +400. could have given better audio during you "in car" and out door tests. For instance, filter out everything below-80 and cut out all the low end rumble. Or maybe A/B-ing the auto gain or limiter functions?
worst recorder i ever bought. But then i bought a tascam dp004 its great. it has guitar inputs and a mic input. it has better quallity and you can record over a track to make a whole band yourself. it costs 130 dollars online.
Thanks for the review! My Guitar Center is having this for only 99 bucks for the Fourth of July weekend sale, and I am going to try and get this for field recordings and sample collecting out and about. :P
I CANNOT RECORD. I hit record the 2nd time & it appears to be recording, BUT NO bars for L & R showing up. (I had it set up to record standard large wave files) When I look at files it shows a wave, but when I play it back, there is NO sound. I put the memory card into my computer to look at the waves in Cool Edit Pro & the stereo tracks were EMPTY. I have read the manual 5 times. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my recorder?
@tbmdtv yes and no, if you plan to do live recordings you should probably record in front of the PA speakers, if you don't have a P.A. then it is difficult to pick up the sound of every instrument from different places. What I do is i have my drummer record a track, then the bassist records his track, and then i go and record a track for guitars and vocals separately and then mix them all together in audio programs like Audacity or Mixcraft with some equalizers and effects.
Why not use an iPod or iPhone with a Blue Mickey? It has good quality and the new Blue Mickey has a line in and retails for under $100. Also, Apple products are smaller with much more memory. Just curious.
@DerekZimmer can an ipod/phone record in 24 bit wav?.Also the tascam is probabaly a lot better for live concert recording etc.I guess it depends what you want to do with it.
@DerekZimmer good point, however, some people don't need an iPad or iPod, and can't fork out 500 bucks for one. This provides an affordable alternative.
i have a question not relating to this video but i have a samson r31s mic and it has to be right up to my mouth to hear anything is there something wrong?
Dude, you need to balance the audio on your videos. Peaks a lot, and getting a lot of distortion.

I think the on board mics on the Tascam DP008 are pretty good. How do these mics compare?

@malcolmcox Can you record drums without having to mic them with the recorder, and does it sound well
Baconater717 1 year ago
@malcolmcox Is the mic input 1/4 inch?
bugmusk6 11 months ago
@bugmusk6 1/8. Kinda useless actually. Just use the onboard mics.

The Tascam will be a backup for podcast recording. I will have it connected to my mixer.
