@GlitterShitter69 Don't give up! We have lots of other videos for beginners - I recommend watching our Basic Japanese video series. You'll find it much easier!
@japanesepod101 are you someone from the japanesepod101 site or just some youtuber rippen them off and postin vids of there stuff? >.> im just curious... i dont much see anyone doing stuff like that or replying to people on their vids especially X.X
To all that reads: Im planning on starting up this channel to teach Japanese going through pretty much all aspects of the "Genki" textbooks. If you are thinking about learning but dont have any teaching methods i suggest you subscribe and stay tuned for upcoming information on my Channel.
The Japanese Pod 101 lesson content on their website looks interesting and useful. However, I've found that in the earlier years audio material that they talked too much. I have thought about using Japanese Pod 101 again but I hope they don't talk so much during the lessons and get straight to the point faster.
@raith2006 It's more for practice, but listening is an important part of learning - even when you don't yet understand the word. It helps your brain better know how to say the word when your finally able to.
Besides, if you watched the video a few times you would then know them, as it translates them both ways, right? :P
We pronouce 一所懸命 as "いっしょけんめい(isshokenmei)" not "いっしょうけんめい(isshoukenmei)" as pronounced in this video.
一所懸命(いっしょけんめい) has the same meaning as 一生懸命(いっしょうけんめい) but they are different words, and each of them has its own different meaning.
But you can forget such details now, and you only need to learn how to write and pronounce 一生懸命(isshoukenmei) with the utmost effort!! (It sure is pretty useful phrase!)
when i try to spark a Japanese conversation I ask "Ni hongo gah wah karimas ka?" If they can, and reply back in more Japanese, I ask "ego gah wah karimas ka?" lol (sorry for any spelling mistake) =P
@bekannt777 im a begginer too but I think I know the difference , chichi is when talking to others about your own father, otoosan is if you are speaking to your own father or you are speaking to others about other fathers, I am not 100% sure but I think you get the basic point
@bekannt777 - The difference lies in the way you write the Kanji for father. '父'. 父 on it's own is chichi whereas お父さん is o'tou'-san. Yes, I too hated learning all 5 BILLION ways to say your parents... arrrrrrrghhghggh!!! Do you know how many ways there are just to 'address one's self' in Japanese...?!!?! I lost my motivation too but got it back as I'm heading to Japan in a month. :) I loved it when I noticed that I was able to read hiraganas faster than furiganas. Never thought that would happen. Kanji's are pretty fun to learn... well, until you get so far that they start looking something like this: 鬱
Why do I have to know kanji as well to understand some words? Do you japanese also learn Kanji besides Hiragana and Katakana? I´m confused, sorry for my ignorance =S
i mean,,,i know that one of them is based on chinese characters, and the other is based on the english pronunciation? or something like that....which is katakana and which is hiragana, kanji?
@TheJumpyPopcorn - "Why do I have to know kanji" ZOMG, when you're stranded in Japan looking for a job and you read your local Japanese newspaper which uses approximately 2000 kanji.. yes over TWO THOUSAND!!!! Haha, we'll see how well you get on ;-)
It was really interesting to learn japanese...i've learned the hiragana and katakana characters, but i am having a hard time learning kanji..... i can understand a bit japanese language and some vocabularies but its kinda hard for me to answer in japanese because i'm afraid that i may not be able to deliver it correctly because of wrong grammar..thats why i'm kinda frustrated about it..:-(
@jamalbsb I lost mine last year because i got lazy...and this year i'm going into a accelerated Japanese class, I will either die in there or make it somehow :'D
why does the japanese language put the hiragana and the kanji alphabets together when they are different in symbols, shape and alphabet name? and why do you have 2 alphabets?
@roudydoberry Think about it. You have 2 alphabets also. English have lower-case and upper case. You've been learning 2 your whole life. Katakana is to pronounce foreign words, you need these for GaiJin to redmenus in cafe. It is necesarry to learn All the alphabets, okay. Kanji is Chinese, Hiragana is standard, and Katakana is to pronounce foreign words.
Completely different words but the symbols (kanji) for the words are of course usually the same seeing as they all came from China originally. (Probably what you mean anyway but I felt I had to say).
well the reason for me at least to learn japanese is not to show off..but it has somewhat similar resemblance to my native chinese language ..thats what make it interesting for me
At first romaji may seem helpful, but (from previous experience) in the long run it is not helpful at all. I suggest learning hirigana or katakana and using those. :)
These lessons are meant to be partnered with a lesson on our website. On the website there is both romaji and furigana for everything, so beginners should check there.
But as roboticrei said, romaji is a crutch that can slow a lot of people down in understanding correct pronunciation of Japanese. It's a good idea to move past it as quickly as possible.
I did pretty well, except for the stay-at-home dad and mom thing. I'm guessing the reason they have it in there is because it's a commonly used term in Japan, so regardless if we don't use it, they do, which is why we should too! (if we ever go over there, I mean)
I knew all of them...except for stay-at-home mom/dad. Why would that be useful? You might want to note the kanji differences, though. It confused me also...
In fact, this video is made to accompany an audio podcast put out on our main site. I'd post the link to the specific lesson that it matches with, but unfortunately YouTube doesn't allow links in comments.
If you listen to the audio podcast, everything is explained in great detail. ;)
Haha. So true. Then they'll be talking about it and they'll mention a Japanese word. Then they'll wait for you to say you don't understand and that when they become cocky.
It's funny because they're actually lots of people out there who do that. Many of the people I know do it and they sit there for hours amused at each other going: konnichiwa! kawaiiii~! arigatou mr roboto! Bakaaaa!
Etc...
pronounced so badly and in a high pitched tone as if it makes them Japanese!
@rainbowpencil27 I know japanese. I just yell Chidori, there XD however, the site seems very useful. I've tried it, and it works great :) So far i've learned that Ushi means cow. Or something like this: U Shi う し Cow or A ku あ く Evil Much more fun writing it self though :P
@rainbowpencil27 Well, watching anime has been my starting point. Of course, I will never be able to fully understand the language just by watching anime, but that is why I am doing a bunch of courses on it. But watching anime definatly helps train your ears to the natural speaking language, cause listening is very important when learning a language. Plus, it helps you learn vocab and how to prounounce things. But maybe thats just me.
wow, that was fun! only didn't know stay-at-home-dad, but stay-at-home mom right after that was kind of a give away.

If you listen to the audio podcast, everything is explained in great detail. ;)

I know a 2 year old Japanese baby whose only words are "mama" and "baka".
You're on your way to speaking like a Japanese person!

@emocupcakesfordinner

Haha. So true. Then they'll be talking about it and they'll mention a Japanese word. Then they'll wait for you to say you don't understand and that when they become cocky.

LMAO.
Pathetic people.

Well, it is good inspiration.
But i see your point.
I try use hints and tips from Japanesepod101 in order to improve,
I played video games and watched English TV.
Thats what got me better in English.
Best way to learn Japanese in my opinion is to mix learning and experience it :D
Watashiwa Nihongoga Schoshi Wakerimasu, demo mada yodudearimasen.

And maybe you should note that "sengyoushufu" is the pronunciation for both stay-at-home dad and mom, but the difference is the Kanji used for "fu".
