An outstanding video to an outstanding, but chilling song. I reckon this is one of the best videos ever, and it works so well being mainly in black and white.
I got to see them in Cambridge when I was stationed there...fucking brilliant, been my fav group since...the room was rocking, everybody jumping up and down...gives me chills remembering ...I didnt know anything by BC except "Big Country" being from the US...sadly unappreciated over here....Stuart you wrote songs like no other..R.I.P brother..
I spent the day with them making the part of this video in the dockyard in Govan, I was just 17 when i worked there, the gates were locked, just me and my mate. They were great, down to earth, talked a lot about music, a day i'll never forget.
I dare any artist of today to write a song of this magnitude. They don't have the balls, Steeltown is so under estimated. R.I.P Stuart. We wish you were still here, hopefully your in a better place.
Wickedweather1, you are so right, not only do they not have the balls, they do not have the talent. And, would anyone buy such an album today, with such subject matter, I doubt it.
This is my favourite song of all time, the story of my life.
great song back then, great song now. the story behind it is quite sad.ppl working in those conditions, and dying by them. Stu had knack of bringing people's plights to the attention of the world. good on ya Stu. rest in peace my friend
The first three songs of Steeltown are in my all time favourites. This has to be number 1. THECutto is dead right. If only video directors and producers realised that all the choreographed dancers in the world cannot equal a well told and well shot story, well..... this world would be a better place.
Adamson, as all the BC material on YT bears out, was a giant of a talent and a Man. Compare to Bono, the prissing, preening counter of millions, and the Edge, the equally rich guitarist who counted Stuart as a major influence! It's not too late to give BC their due!
I agree, well-written song and absolutely timeless. When "Steeltown" was released, Rolling Stone magazine incessantly compared these guys to U2 and The Alarm. Give me a break. I almost wore out my cassette copy, just finally threw it out a few years back... Damn hard to find on CD though!
Stunning vid! really brilliant work and still contemporary which is why Big Country is and always shall be Classic. I can't get any work done watching this bands vids! % )
I love Big Country will never forget Stuart Adamson this song reminds me of my youth god bless him i will keep his songs alive my kids even like big country and i am 56
Terrific! I'm actually in this video. I'm the young guy at the end that 'buys' the house and is shown into it! :-) I used to work in music videos a lot and at that time I was working in Scotland as a Location Manager/Production Manager. It was so much fun working on this video. This was the only time I met Stuart - he was a total gentleman. Such a sad loss. Tragic.
Thanks for posting the video - I have never seen it before.
I agree, this was a very underrated song. I am an old fan and have "The Seer" and " Steeltown" on vinyl - can't bring myself to throw the old vinyl out !
Thank you a lot for posting this video! Though it must be twenty years now since I saw it the last time, it is one of my favourite Big Country videos and songs. Stuart looks so cute and vulnerable -- it is still such a great loss that he is gone, still incomprehensible.
Love this track, fantastic video

If you really get into the lyrics and music in this song, if you really dig down deep and feel this song as you should, its downright bone chilling.
One of the deepest, darkest songs I've ever heard.
"Some days, I just don't worry. I let it pour through me".
