Very nice editing and bike! I got an drz400e i did a motard conversion on. My main racing roads are as twisty as yours and she goes sweet on and off road. lol all id say is get some real barkbusters.. those plastic things wont do much but protect your hands from bugs and rocks.
@biggDD1010 as per previous comments, google "cast motard dr650" and you'll see the website. free info packs on how to do the conversions with honda cast wheels.
I gotta tell you secretgardenproject, you post some of the most kick ass motorcycle videos I've ever seen. I sincerely think you could, at the very least, direct the successor to On Any Sunday! You got me hooked! Your choice of music on this one absolutely gives this piece ATTITUDE. Lots of great things to you. Keep them coming.
this may be a stupid question but do you turn the dr650 into a super moto or is this a model that it comes in?? and if so how do you turn it into a super moto?? and after you turn it into a super moto can you still take it off road??
@onehitkill google "motard dr650" and you'll find a website with free info packs showing how to use cbr250rr wheels to motard the dr. the supermoto is a handful offroad, the bike turns a lot quicker so its unstable, and off course you only have road tyres. deadly combination! the guy in this vid said he'd never do it again, was on the verge of crashing the whole time he reckons.
the dr rider has fitted a GSXR1000 pipe now, but kept everything else standard. said its got heaps more mid range power now, but still quiet and economical.
Looks like allot of fun. They are tougher to wheelie than some other bikes, my old DR350 was much easier. I believe the wheelbase of it, and the lean CV carb is the issue, they have no bottom end with the stock set up. I have an 05 with a Mikuni TM40 flatslide pumper, FMF Q4, and open airbox. It power wheelies now in 1-3. Pulls 5th gear from 35mph, and not 55mph like the stock carb and 50mpg. Lowered wider pegs, and racetech suspension, and sargeant seat. SM wheels are next. Have fun!
I don't understand. I can wheelie for almost as long as I want on my Honda XR650L & it's almost stock & I'm an old man. I always thought the DR & the XRL were real similar bikes.
@graemelockieable my understanding is the DR needs a lot of work to even get near the XR's stock power - probably a pipe, flat slide carb, airbox mods and a hot cam. a mate of mine has both bikes and said they are very different beasts...
@tedb545 usually just go to the electronic speedo as with most motard wheels. on some models it is possible to adapt the honda speedo drive to suit but i reckon its too much messing around and adds time to the changeover
Im planning an all-round aussie trip on a bike as my first holiday ive had in 4 years, looking to buy a dr650 for the job, looks like you have fun on yours, mine would get punished quite a bit, especially through the NT part of the trip.
Have you had any problems with yours that I should keep in mind?
@WRTcc nothing every seems to go wrong with them, i'd suggest checking the dr650 forums but i couldn't find evidence of a weak point. most guys do beef up the suspension a bit, that is probably its worst design flaw.
where? normally you will only get engine sound when a bike is running. there will be a mixture of exhaust noise and mechanical noise, mainly from the bore and top end. i hope this answers your question... @DruidXT
I have a 2010 DR650 which has just had 17" motard rims fitted, Ash's in Brisbane did a fine job, back wheel respoked for the front and a new 150 for the rear, looks and handles beautifully (free tryes from my local dealer too! Saved me a packet!). Anyway I was just wondering what indicators you have on the rear and where they are mounted as I want to get rid of the pillion handles and have a nice tidy back end like yours (the bike i mean) Also what exhaust is on this beast? thanks.
indicators were already on the bike, they just seem to be those cheap tiny aftermarket ones you can get at most bike shops. standard muffler but with a few holes drilled in the end cap to derestrict it a bit. worked okay, avoided the power pipes as personally i find them too noisy for the amount of power increase you get.
@secretgardenproject Thanks mate, I actually got rid of the pillion handles on the week-end, a mate of mine with a lot more nouse than me made up two nifty little brackets to mount the stocko indicators, apparantley if he did it the way I suggested the right indicator would have melted on the exhaust in about 30 seconds, live and learn. I also swapped the giant duck bill front mud gaurd for a UFO Motard fender which has virtually eliminated wind steer. The list of things to do is still long.
these guys dream of drifting! but they have left it a little too late to learn around 50 years old (to be old and wise you must first be young & stupid)
This is the sickest sh•t I've seen in a long time! I'm getting DR650 SuperMotard next week that looks just like this. While I don't have mad skilz like you got, hopefully I'll be tearin' it up soon! Um... I gotta get my leathers, learner's permit and take my MSF course first! I don't want to get killed on my first bike! LOL.
@transphattyacid - My first bike was/still is a DR650 and I have to say that while it certainly is not the fastest, lightest, best handling bike it is still a lot of bike for a first timer. I have had mine for about 8 months and we are still feeling each other out so to speak. It still scares the sheite out of me sometimes as it has a lot of bottom end power. She is in getting 17" motard rims fitted as I type and I am just busting to get it back. Did you end up getting yours?
@tubbybasset Yeah, I did get the bike and love it! I totally recommend the bike to anyone interested wtih one caveat: The seat is not comfortable for long trips. But there are aftermarket seats and seat pads you can get if you're interested. I've been riding for about 5 months now and the bike is a TON OF FUN! Mine came as a Super Moto, but I may actually get a set of dual-sport rims and tires so I can off road it as well.
got the wheels from an australian mob, just google 'dr650 cast wheels' or something like that. was going to go spoked wheels but too expensive to get the cush drive hub.
What is ther not to like about this vid? awsome bike!

comfortable around 60mph or 100kmh. heaps of midrange but not much after that so not really suited to higher cruising speeds.
