I'm sorry I missed seeing this one this past Christmas Eve. I e-mailed the station about it. They said that they were trying to say 'Merry Christmas' in every language spoken in the Newschannel 5 viewing area. Once they assembled it all, the commercial was two minutes long, and hence there were two separate commercials made. FWIW, the cartoon commercial debuted the same year as the 'Merry Christmas' ads. The music is"Once in Royal David's City" by Stan Kenton and his Orchestra. Thanks, yorkie9!
Thanks for posting this! I had been searching for it (as you said, there's much more views of the cartoon one). They were both promos that will always have a warm place in my heart. I'm so glad Newschannel5 still plays them. I was fascinated with all the different languages in the promo as a child, and it probably had something to do with why I went into my chosen field of cross-cultural psycholinguistics. :)
Thanks so much for posting this clip. Brings back many happy Christmas memories when I was a kid in TN.
