Sorry left4newbz, I didn't see your comment. I think this clam was open (and dead). We thought the clams would all be dead when we put them in, but some of them survived and buried themselves in the substrate! Our feeding plan for the brittle stars was thwarted!!

@MrForkfan They're related to starfish but are still in a separate class. Sea stars = Asteroidea / Brittle and Basket stars = Ophiuroidea.
