I was there that evening. It was a BIG surprise to Liza that night, she had no idea that Chita would be on the show! Liza would run out front and lean on the monitors to watch Chita perform! Fred & John were both wonderful! All of them are the way in life as you see them here! I was lucky enough to be Fred Ebb's Personal Assistant! I got to watch Fred write & hear them compose all this music from Chicago & NY, NY! A real blessing for me. Fred will always be my BEST FRIEND!
@ggreenwood4 That's an amazing story! I love all of the clips from this show- When Chita came out, Liza was surprised, but I have always thought the most touching reaction was Fred's. He was in tears! They had a great friendship, all four of them, but it seems like Chita and Fred were extremely close. Both of them are such inspiring people. Thanks for sharing your experience!! :)
Folks - THAT'S the way this song should be sung!! And since he's one of the writers, I think we can assume he's doing it right. I've been watching a bunch of videos of this song on youtube - and most don't skip that beat between "shoulda" and "been my name." And they throw the whole song off. Thank you for posting this!!
Fred Ebb is so amazing. The one thing that I will remember about him was on the PBS special, "Broadway: The American Musical", he said that she could watch the moment when the King looks at Anna in "The King And I" for the rest of his life. He also says that that moment always brings tears to his eyes.
Man, one of the best writers in the world right there, I was hoping they would have Barney Martin on the show with him, I rele wanna seem him sing Mr Cellophane
My favorite song sung by one of its authors, you cant get better than that THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS

Most of the time you'd think they're just bullshitting, but you can tell these guys really love each other. It's really nice to see. :)
