The thing is, since Naruto joined Jiraiya for a few years he knows everything about the most recent book Jiraiya wrote and Kakashi being a die-hard fan of Jiraiya's work didn't want to hear any spoilers so that was what Naruto tried to tell him.

Not including the anime, Naruto needs a Shadow Clone to do the Rasengan unless he is using the Kyuubi's chakra in part 1, he is able to do the Rasengan himself in part 2 although he is shown to use a Shadow Clone sometimes, He does need a Shadow Clone for the advance forms
