Just sitting here on a Friday evening enjoying one of the most beautiful voices of all time. I was young or not even born when she started out, but she is a fellow New Jerseyian and extremely talented. This is class and as the Duches says "Money can't by you class." Elegance is learned my friend.
She recorded this one for Columbia and it was a hit record. She didn't get that much great material at Columbia (that came with Mercury) but this was a song she really liked. She was always perfectly gowned and groomed after a rough beginning in the business when she was awkward and sort of runty. She glammed up with amazing speed and stayed that way forever.
I'm really tired of people who keep saying things like I'm only 13 or 15 or 17 and I like jazz. As if to show that they are more sophisticated than others their age. If you like this kind of music and you are young....good for you, that's great. But why is it that we have to say how old we are as if we are trying to impress people?
i am sue she was so happy in this deace, her smile and her look is so great ... by making this music one MUST be happy. whenever i sing a song of this time i have a special smile on my face ... does people tell me ... i completelly understand ........
I'm a 17 year old male and I must say it saddens me when people don't recognize talent. You have all this stuff that comes out now with absolutely no substance and they get paid millions. To me 60s music is the best nothing really can compare, but Sarah I have no words when it comes to her. I will literally argue who is the best female vocal of all times - its Sarah Vaughan period!
im a bit older.. 22 male, but i totally agree. sarah vaughn is the shit. dont ge tme wrong.. some of the chart stuff is good... but its crazy how people will just pass sarah vaughn off as just any old skool singer.
@djjazzyjam you aint heard lady day....but to each its own. i admire the fact you are so young and dig this, i have been listening to sarah,billie,charlie...as a serious student..since i was eight...yea i'll listen to tupac but if given the choice i would rather listen to this...
@djjazzyjam you are a advanced 17 year old. I think you will have a bright future.......Always maintain your good taste in everything you do.....her 40's music was the best.....
Young lady, this song took place sometime during the late 40s to early to mid 50s. Sarah Vaughan was somewhere in her 40s during the 60s. I know because I wasn't even a teenager during the 1960s. The world was a different place then. If you went back in time to witness this yourself, you'd probably think you were on another planet; Especially the way people thought and spoke and the music they listened to. Beautiful music transcends time.
