  • please can you have an upload of MTV Best of Brit...please anyone anyone....i really want to see it badly..don't forget to post it on my channel thanks!!!!

  • I love British Rock, but I have never understood why nearly everything is a response to an American movement on this side of the Atlantic. And then, it is analyzed to death in pieces like this...funny, maybe if it was appreciated more at the time, it wouldn't have died....now whenever I visit England, the latest obsession is constant airplay of hip hop music...good luck responding to this genre, LOL. Maybe Romeo Dunn can be the next Jay Z, LMAO.

  • Soundgarden

    Pearl Jam

    Nirvana

    Alice in Chains

    Mudhoney

    Stone Temple Pilots

    Melvins

    Grunge owns.

  • Grunge completely owns Britpop, better musicians, better song writers, better people.

    Chris Cornell, enough said.

  • @IndianaJoel93 yes black sabbath riffs are so difficult-lol! give me a break- out of all the bands you named only pearl jam had talent and songwriting skills- soundgarden had a good guitarist and great singer but shit songs like all the other bands you named though i will always dig mudhoney who were always good and more punk than anything - by the way pearl jam were not grunge and neither were STP!

  • @salvadory you are obviously a stubborn british indie type then, goodbye :)

  • Glorious days when all music had summat to say and mindless pop didn't pretend to be summat more.

  • sleeper were awful bandwagon jumpers

  • Sleeper were about as subtle as a sock full of sand to the face.

  • grunge sucked monkey balls and nirvana was overrated melodramtic rehashed self pity college punk- i could appreciate cobains passion but ill take weller- albarn and noel gallagher anyday

  • @salvadory really? you just saying that cause grunge started in US, lol as for Britpop meh

  • @PureHeavenlySultan im from seattle and never got into bad clothes self pity and whining- britpop wins hands down for its celebration of life and its more melodic style in my opinion- the jam cleans house on them all

  • @salvadory Interesting I see britpop as kinda to Hippie punk influenced, so I am not that interested in them, as for Grunge I love the heavy metal influence though softened in most grunge songs, also the guitar solos etc, aint about pity or whinning in my opinion but reality, anyways as I say to each his own,

  • @salvadory you know nothing about grunge. Nirvana weren't even the best grunge band, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains...

  • @IndianaJoel93 yeah right i saw mudhoney green river the melvins live before grunge was even a word you tosser- stone temple pilots- what a joke!!!

  • @salvadory aren't you a charmer.

  • I disagree that Britpop is over. To be honest I think Britpop has only just started. The 90's Britpop was just the introduction! I think some Britpop revolution is going to happen again!

  • And this guy hosting this is, the nice word is wrong. Damon Alburn is the example of people who think they are better than you; his tunes are sh*t. If you want realy brillant English Rock then try a real band like the Stone Roses or the Happy Mondays; Oasis or sleeper to name a few.

  • How many of you are over the age of 40? If you not then maby some of you shouldn't be talking sh*t about things you don't know anything about. I don't like being bothered having to glance thru posts from losers half my age talking about the bands when there was no way they could have heard them live during this time period ; and by the way, most of my mates from my time would rather listen to grunge than anything the f*ck*n Damon Alburn and that unholy Gorilla band of his could play anytime.

  • dam that one chic was a band flossey...a real ho stringin them all together.

  • new britpop band futuremilts check it out.

    facebook

    last fm

  • @TheBonehead888 there is no such thing as a "new" Britpop band. Anything that came out after 98 is not Britpop

  • @ministryOFmuff yes there is new britpop by the form of the futuremilts!!! check it out!!

  • @TheBonehead888 no, there is not. Britpop was the name of an era that lasted between 1994-1998. You're 13 years too late, bud.

  • @ministryOFmuff i agree Britpop 94 to 98 is over and it failed.. even the spice girls was called britpop, that is bollocks, the new britpop is more credible it started this year 2o11.

  • indie is not britpop ok why do they keep mentioning that horrible name indie. call it as it is. bripop.

  • lush?

  • If I were a teacher I would make my students watch this.

  • hay guize is metallica britpop?

  • @Chizzbuut no, its heavy metal

  • hey its nirvana in the beginning so SONY GO AND BAN THIS VIDEO!!!

  • some shoegaze bands were influenced by grunge band like swevedriver, Catherine wheel etc

  • Nirvana is not Britpop...

Coldplay, Keane, The Killers and Blur are some examples

  • @Cyclone765 Blur is the only actual Britpop band you mentioned, "Britpop" is any British based indie band that had their prime between 1994-1998

  • @ministryOFmuff

Dude, Coldplay and Keane are Britpop.

Both are British and had their prime between 1994-1998, and is not necesary 1994-1998, that was the time when Britpop was popular.

  • @Cyclone765 you clearly arent British, first of all coldplay didnt even release an album until 2000 and were totally unknown until their songs "trouble" and "yellow", also Keane released their debut album even later in 2004, about 6 years after the very end of what were described as the Britpop years (and 1998 is being generous, it was already dying in 97) not to mention neither of those bands sound like Britpop. Britpop is just the name for a cultural shift that started in about 94 until 98ish

  • @ministryOFmuff Well, you are right, I'm not british, but I don't think Britpop is only between 1994-1998, also Coldplay is qualified as Britpop according to WIkipedia :/

  • @Cyclone765 They might qualify as Britpop on wikipedia, but they dont to anyone that was around during the Britpop era. Coldplay were part of the wave of groups that followed right after Britpop. Britpop was oasis, blur, pulp, suede, ocean colour scene, supergrass, elastica, echobelly, the verve, dodgy, the divine comedy, kula shaker, reef, the bood radleys, black grape, sleeper, the bluetones, cast and a few others. Also some other stuff like the prodigy were dragged into the scene at the time.

  • @ministryOFmuff Oh ok

  • Grunge sucks horse dick

  • why has to be justin bieber mentioned here? there's no need.

and Oasis are rock emo says? check your ears, you haven't listened to nothing yet then.

    What we have to read...

  • please can anyone post the mtv best of brit commercial in my channel? i really love that advertisement.

  • Blur just own Oasis lets face it oasis had 1 and a half good albums and used the hype of the 2 brothers while Blur mixed things up

  • Hilarious when Justine mentions Prufrock and the presenter pretends to know what she's talking about.

  • Ride look awesome!!!! I don't see any mammoth egos in that music stinking up the place. Thank Liam & Damon for that.

  • Britpop was fantastic but shoegaze, even with its limited exposure and being foisted by smaller labels, is so much more influential and admired in both the US and UK now, it's ridiculous. Loveless and Souvlaki far outshine Different Class and Parklife; there's no comparison.

  • @ftwelve12 WTF are you talking about

  • @hegerthing Alex Turner's voice is terrible in my opinion, when you say bands "today" do you mean bands that are still active or bands that have only been around since the beggining of the decade? (2000)

  • @hegerthing hmmm, I dont really think Arctic Monkeys are that good tbh

  • This is so dismissive of shoegaze, which has proven to be far more influential than Britpop. Most of these Britpop bands just sound dated now while the best of the shoegaze music has aged quite well.

  • what the fuck was wrong with shoegaze bands?

  • @ 5:12 , these bands did not throw out grunge. Kurt threw it out with his suicide... if it wasn't for that, brit bands would still be begging for a small time petty contract by a local record label.

lmao brits sure can make some strong but false statements...

  • I got my music taste from my parents and my older brother, my family came over to England when my bro was 2, I wasn't born yet lol anyway, my brother and I were talking about music, and like me, he was never a britpop fan, he was 15 when britpop was at its peak, and while alot of people at his school were listening to britpop, my brother was listening to bands like Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, REM and The Verve.

  • @12JimmySmith all the bands you mentioned except the verve are absolute shit

they are stupid noisy american bands whose songs sound absolutely the same

actually, the whole grunge movement was just noisy version of pop for idits on drugs

britpop is actually very meaningful and intelligent

  • @gogolplex74 well, they aren't though. idiot. you obviously haven't listened to any of those bands, and they are not "noisy version of pop for idiots on drugs" open your mind fucker.

  • @gogolplex74 listen to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica and tell me that is "shit" and "noisy pop".

dickhole. and none of those bands the other guy mentioned "sound the same" you have obviously never listened to them, and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam were regarded as two of the best rock singers of the 90s, shows how much you know.

  • Oasis the best Britpop band!

  • Pirated Good Melody + Original Sick Lyrics = Brit Pop

  • I dont see what's really wrong with shoegaze bands though.

  • @kaliyuta true. blurs first album was heavily inflenced by that shoegaze stuff. and that's not a bad album.

  • Check this tune watch?v=B3uF8Ve1eRs

  • I wonder why Americans always come on these sites laying into us Brits. If you don't like music from the UK- nobody is forcing you to listen to it. I prefer British music myself, but then,i'm from here,i understand the lyrical references in the songs,i prefer the sound etc. so i'll listen to British music instead.

  • Everyone, stop answering this prick "talentedmrman"... he's a troll and you're all taking the bait.

  • justin bieber has probably sold more number of records than all of these combined.

  • @thetalentedmrman do you know what deas MUSIC mean?

  • rubbish vid. thumb down.

  • This britpop is old news. Rubbish.

  • Music has been completley trashed over the last 10 years, it has no meaning anymore - its all about money - thats it really, technology and the music industry have wrecked it - now its going back to basics with people doing it themselves........so that will be where a new movement will come from because record labels are dead now and no independant labels want to contract to EMI or Sony.....they're a joke anyway so who really cares.

  • @hellohellogone fuck off you obviousy havent heard justin beiber!

Atleast Justin Bieber and katy peryy have more talent than these emos!

  • People who are saying that Britpop killed Grunge and that Britpop is better than Grunge, can go fuck themselves. Grunge died because Kurt Cobain killed himself(no Courtney conspiracy) and all the record labels signed shit copy cat bands like Live and Bush. Also, Grunge isn't about moaning about how your life sucks. Thats Emo. Grunge is basically a reaction against the Reagan era and Hair Metal bands in the 80s. Has a lot of Gen X themed lyrics.

  • what it dosent tell you is pulp were around for much longer then suede and blur having started in 1978.

  • Alot of English really liked Grunge. I don't know what the speaker of this docudrama is talking about. After 15 years I still question the importance of 'Suede' and 'blur'. Damon Alburn is still full of tomatoes. The Stone Roses are still so much more important and far more influential than these two bands.

  • Musics pretty dull these days, who were the last great group to come out in the 2000s.......er none, Artic Monkeys, Kasabian and Muse - I don't think so.

Stereophonics came out as the Britpop craziness was winding down, 1997, 13 years ago......wheres all the new bands!!!??? Its time there were more. Although I highly doubt you can rely on kids these days on starting a decent group.

  • @MegaloBellamian

    your an idiot

  • @EuchridEucrow1

    (round of applause)

  • New York Dolls. Blondie, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, KUrt CObain, Courtney love, Public Enemy, Micheal Jackson, Elvis, Madonna Surf boards. Pizza CBGB's Studio 54. BATman and Robin

  • If only the 90's were 10 years longer

  • Best music of that era, period.

  • this has just made my hatred for britpop bigger, its fucking boring dirgey sh*t.

  • @missyoutub3 And this comment has just made my hatred for you grow bigger

  • I watched an interview with a so called band that i hate called "Muse". You might of heard of them although to be honest i aint. They said "Britpop was awful because it takes it self seriously". They then show a clip of him playing a guitar behind his head and doing a powerslide with what sounded like the super mario soundtrack with crying in the background. I was told that wasnt super mario but a muse song. I really wanna punch them and their computers hard...

  • @08havoc08 Well, that just goes to show how amazingly dreary and mind washed people are now..........in the 90s people seemed to think for themselves, now they are told how to think......amazing really.

  • funny how they say britpop was the british looking in on themselves rather than copying off the americans, even though by doing that they sort of were copying off the americans

  • where is "ocean pipe" ...i like that band

  • where is "Ocean Pipe"????....that band is awsome

  • really cool...grunge as it was was no biggie..brit pop endures and reaches over the decades

  • Comment removed

  • shoegazing died in 1993 and they didn't mention madchester because that was britpop main influence

  • what is nirvana doing in britpop!!nirvana is grunge

    no indie britpop

  • britpop was amazing. 1993-1997 was the best music has been in a long, long time.

  • @jhwoasis93 Britpop was shit. Always has been and always will be. It's all about Justin Bieber now.

  • @thetalentedmrman yeah mybe you can get him to suck your cock and while yor at why don't you nelt down MJ's body to use it as a dildo .

  • @jhwoasis93 Brit pop is still shit. No wonder its not around anymore.

  • @thetalentedmrman are you a mong? the beatles are not around any more, going to say they are shit. that knob head bieber will be forgotten a long time before britpop is. beiber will disapear and be laughed at by future generations and its good thing MJ is dead so little kids can sleep easy with out being touched.

  • @jhwoasis93 Doesn't matter whatever you say Britpop is still considered shit. Not like Justin Bieber whos known around the world! No one has ever heard of shitpop no wonder it did really rubbish and lasted a short time. Infact ask somebody on the street and they will say they never heard of that crap music. Rubbish!

  • @thetalentedmrman go away, you are clearly an idiot. what the fuck are you? just becaiuse you want justin faggots cock up your arse don't mean any one eles does. you know nothing about music, fuck off. how the fuck can you say it did rubbish when oasis are one of the most successful bands of all time. your an idiot who like kiddie fidlers and and homo. FUCK OFF YOU STUPID CUNT.

  • @jhwoasis93 Oasis one of the most successful bands of all time? lmao don't make me laugh theyre rubbish. Not even heard of outside the UK. No wonder they split up now becuase they are old news and has-beens. Nobody wants to listen to their music anymore because theyre an old style. Just like shit pop. No wonder its unheard of and lasted for a short time. Brit-shit-pop didn't do that well, no longer it didn't last long. End of.

  • @thetalentedmrman it will last longer than that shithawk bieber, he never has been and never will be relavent. grunge didn't last that long neither did punk. they are still great though. i dont why i am wastng my time on you though, you must be a mong. we'll see who's music is in the shops 50 years from now. oasis and the bands i like will out last the shitty pop you like. your a wanker. go get some friends. DICK HEAD

  • @jhwoasis93 In 50 years time I doubt anybody will have heard of oasis and brit-shit-pop which lasted a short spell anyway. Infact you ask anbody outside the UK and they probably would have never heard of oasis or this crappy music stuff. Its old anyway. Bye.

  • @jhwoasis93 get with the time, we are not living in the 90s anymore! Brit-shit-pop has no relevance today. It's old!

  • @thetalentedmrman oh n oasis are massive in south america, europe, austrlia, japan and have had success in US as well as the UK. so FUCK YOU

  • @jhwoasis93 haha oasis are massive in south america and other countries? lmao i don't think so they probably never even heard of them! lol Oasis are the past no anyway they belong in the 90s along with all this crappy music which is oout of date. Its all about katy perry, justin bieber and co now. get with the times you fool.

About time oasis split anyway because people were starting not to listen to them anymore.

  • @jhwoasis93 you see you know im right that's becuase you haven't replied becuase oasis are unheard of and are old now =]

  • @thetalentedmrman i have replied and proved you wrong you daft cunt. your a fucking weirdo, you nothing about good music. now fuck off go get some friends and sort your life out and stop wanting cock up are arse you faggot wanker.

  • @jhwoasis93 haha you have to make it personal just because you are in a mood about it and all because I said that nobody listens to oasis anymore and that brit-shit-pop was rubbish and did crap when it came out. You can say whatever you like even though brit-shit-pop did rubbish and that nobody has ever even heard of this emo bands. Get with the times we are not living in your fantasy worlld.

  • @thetalentedmrman you area tragic cunt on the winde up. you talk shit so you get a reaction cus ur a sad fuck. look at the sales of britpop. it was successful. oasis are resepcted as a great timeless rock band around the world. millions and millions of people still like oasis and bands from that time and will do a long time after beiber is gone. and you like mj, a PEADO. now please fuck off and go play in traffic and rid the world of you pointless waste of blood and organs existence.

  • @jhwoasis93 Nope, what you have said in everything so far is invalid. And you making it personal just because you know for a fact too that britshitpop was rubbish and no wonder it did really rubbish. I mean where are the bands now? Nowhere to be seen at all. Your living a a fantasy world oasis are old now. no wonder they broken up because nobody wanted to listen to thier music anymore =]

  • @jhwoasis93 atleast justin bieber is more known around the world than oasis. justin bieber is much more talented than oasis im sorry but they not heard of around the world atleast not to justin bieber and katy perry status. Your just jealous because justin bieber is much more talented and original than any of these emo britshitpop people. get with the times its about good music now ok thanks =]

  • @thetalentedmrman you are a really sad person who wants a reaction. just go away now talking shit, yout really boring. go out and see the world and get off your computer talking shit. you make no sence. it is a fact that sales prove oasis are an exstreamly successful band. they have sold alot more albums than beiber ever will. in the UK most people think beiber is an annoying little cock. and oasis emo? wtf??? there about as much emo as gayboy beiber is death metal lmao. now please fuck off.

  • @jhwoasis93 haha i don't think so everyone knows bieber has sold more than crappy oasis has. atleast they know who justin bieber is! just look at why oasis are no longer around because people got bored of them and their music!

  • @thetalentedmrman well no he has not. ur a yank, you no nothing about british music. oasis are a millions time bigger than that cunt over here. FACT. and jelous? of what you daft prick.

  • @jhwoasis93 well oasis suck and justin bieber has sold more records than them period. atleast bieber is more known than crappy emo band oasis! your jealous becuase of the facts that bieber is way better and talented than oasis who nobody likes now. a good thing they split up seeing as they became unpopular. keep dreaming ok bye =]

  • @jhwoasis93 atleast i know more than you do about good music. i would like to end this debate now because i know for a fact i am right and you are wrong ok so bye.

  • @thetalentedmrman you the one dreaming. all what you have said is worng. show me were it says he has sold more albums than oasis cus he hasn't. n if oasis went on a world tour tomorrow it would sell out tickets in a second. beiber is for little girls a gays so you must be... n oasis are rock dip shit not emo.

  • @jhwoasis93 1. Justin Bieber has sold more records than Oasis. FACT. 2. Oasis can't go on a world tour becuase they have split up LOL. Plus they are no known around the world, not like Bieber. 3. Your just jealous of Justin Bieber becuase he is more talented than this. 4. Oasis are rock emo whatever its still the same.

Just stating the facts. The turth hurts I guess =] bye.

  • @thetalentedmrman ur a tool. go away. u can't just make some thing up and say its a fact you cunt. now fuck off!!!!!!!!!

  • @thetalentedmrman Wow... I usually hate Oasis but you've me deeply fall in love with them now :) Thanks! I prefer to like an overrated band than a never-rated kid ;)

  • @thetalentedmrman what the hell are you talking about Justin Bieber has sold nowhere close to the amount of records Oasis have

  • @thetalentedmrman I dont really like Oasis, but Justin Bieber more talented than them? I dont think so kid, and if you are talking facts? Oasis have sold 70 million records worldwide, Justin Bieber has sold 4 million.

  • @12JimmySmith Actually Justin Bieber has sold MORE copies than Oasis. Oasis are not around remember that. Justin Bieber is known across the world now. That means he has sold and is more popular than Oasis have been now. 400 million copies I think, not just 4 million, Justin Bieber has definately sold more than 400 million. He is popular now and he has sold more i'm afraid.

  • @thetalentedmrman I doubt it, 90% of Justin Bieber's fans are 12 year old girls, and as much as I dislike Oasis, they have a legacy that will last forever, they won an award a year after they had split up, and just because Bieber is known across the world, does not mean he sells records, most people despise him. I get my figures from the actual record companies, I dont make them up like you.

  • @jhwoasis93 jealous much?! lol =]

  • @jhwoasis93 look at the sale of britshitpop? What sales? there isnt any sales out there lmao.and i highly doubt **millions** even know who oasis are lol

  • @jhwoasis93 say whatever you like I don't care but the fact is i guarantee that nobody has ever heard of these outside the UK

  • @jhwoasis93 get with the time and accept with fact that britshitpop is no longer great ok so bye =]

  • in my opinion the 90's was the best decade for music, my favs were oasis, blur, pulp, suede, manic street preachers, shed seven and the bluetones. but if it wasnt for the 'mighty' stone roses we probably wudnt of had half the bands we've had. they set the path for the 90's, long live the roses

  • ah pulp. the real winners of britpop

  • @mypasswordisgood08

how??? pulp were good, but oasis were the real winners,

  • Yeah...90's are the greatest music years...ever. 00's are shit and sometimes it's not music (like Lady Gaga, Rihana r Jay-z and these bullshits).

    GOD, GIVE BACK 90's PLEASE!!!

  • lotta talk about there own experiance within the music. Sounds very grunge to me. Same ideal , different sonic experiance.

  • Ride were definitely not unambitious, pure bull.

  • Its understandable that Oasis are disliked by John Harris, but to say that they are redemptive and Blur, Elastica, Suede, Pulp, Menswear, Sleeper and Echobelly are higher above them is ridiculous.

Noel Gallagher is one of the best songwriters of the last 15 years!! And those bands don't have songs like Oasis do.

  • john harris' mind

    blur>oasis

read his book, he rants for 200 pages about how he hates oasis.

twat, needs to move on with his life and stop living in the past anyway.

  • i was goin to by that book until i found out that he critises oasis the whole time. wat an idiot , you should be equally observing of all bands from the era...not biased towards anyone...otherwise its not a very accurate book

  • the whole shoegazing thing died a year before grunge tho them britpop because more mainstream

  • Its noticable that John Harris has dislike for bands like Ocean Colour Scene, Oasis and Kula Shaker and champions such acts as Suede, Menswear and Pulp.

  • In 7ages of rock he talks at least about suede, and he liked them as I remember.

  • Thanks rod2520,I have been looking for the name of this song for a long time

  • SLOWDIVE? UNAMBITIOUS?! WTF

That's a pretty ignorant thing for a music journalist to say. He might not like it, but unambitious slowdive were not.

  • Who sings the song in 5:12?? Answer quickly please.

  • I think the song at 5:12 was

    The Kinks -- Shangri-la

  • what a complete load of wank.

  • Sleeper are a fucking ace band

  • Very intelligent comment Alistahr.

Thank you for your thoughtful wisdom.

  • Nirvana were better than most of these bands.

And how can they just write off bands like Ride and my Bloody Valentine?

    Still an interesting doc though.

  • nirvana fucking sucked balls

  • ian brown legend

  • ian brown was right most britpop is middle class

    still good music though

  • awesome

  • I miss the shoegaze bands

  • was grunge really big in England? it seems to be the complete opposite of stone roses and the other british stuff from the very early 90's

  • you all ways get some idiots

  • Grunge was fairly big in England, but for a very short time.

  • she got my baby

  • I love britpop and grunge they are both my favorite type of music i listen to . Do they have this on DVD or do they only show this on tv ?

  • I love Britpop, and Nirvana and Grunge. Its all great music,

  • Does Blur hate Nirvana? Please answer, because I love Nirvana and I love Blur and I dont want them to be rivals.

  • haha, wtf...

  • in a book I have Damon says something about Grunge and says that its time for kids to stop listening to American rubbish, and says they were about getting rid of grunge, the book is called blur in their own words

  • Britpop was a renaissance in British music which took over as (post) Grunge faded away. It was quite backward-looking towards the 60s and 70s (Beatles, Slade) but with a 80 alternative culture twist (think of a bit of house music thrown in).

A lot of bands were actually pretty weak (Ash, Menswear, Northern Uproar and the aptly-named Dodgy), but there are still a few gems to be dug out (Oasis' first two albums, Garbage, Teenage Fanclub, Blur, Primal Scream).

  • shoegaze and grunge are awesome

  • the 90's: Magic!

    the 00's: Shit!

  • No the 00's were alright with The Libertines, when it got to the 05's it got shit.

  • arctic monkeys!!!

  • well exactly.

  • there good

  • Have you heard their new album? it's terrible.

  • i think its okay but still

  • "okay" doesn't mean legendary, Legendary bands don't make "okay" records.

British music was going though a dry patch, so the NME decided to overhype any mediocre tuneful band they could find, enter the vastly overratted "arctic monkeys".

  • yeah but the fist one is "legendary"

a good band can make one album that isnt "legendary"
