For those wondering how it's done, you can do it by essentially humming while you play the instrument normally. That's how you can get two tones out of the instrument at the same time.
For those discussing the clarity of sound, I'm afraid to say that the technique itself does not lend to a clear tone very easily, especially in performance.
I can do this, but since I prefer beautiful, clear tones, I do not really like the technique.
@thedundy69 very easy. Blow air and hum at the same time... after that just put the buzz in. I've found this is the easiest way to teach people. I found out how to do it back in the 7th grade and have been teaching people how to do it ever since
@mrbones102 The internet is stupid. Anyone who is claiming knowledge over that must be of medocre knowledge and you obvouisly know better. Just sayin'. The dude on this video is amazing. I have a grad degree in low brass performance. I know what I'm talking about. just sayin.
I attempted to play this on my sousaphone at marching band practice, its not the multi phonics that are hard, its the "crabscratches" that are. I honestly have no idea what he is doing on those parts :P
This reminds me of an album called "Frantic Squirrel" that came out almost 20 years ago by a French Tuba player named Francois Thullier. Beat-boxing on Tuba is just amazing!!
@sk8dood98 his name is nat mcintosh and is the former tuba player for youngblood brass band where he does a lot of this stuff but in full band context.
@trombonetubabassoon he's still beat boxing and doing multiphonics. I've been a musician quite a while too. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about as well.
This guys should be worshiped by all brass players. My lips would be gone if I did this! This takes a enormous amount of skill, probably improvised the whole thing too! He should have no dislikes!
I'm assuming you play tuba, so do I. From one tuba player to another I am saying no sousaphonme can get as good of a tone quality as a concert tuba or contra.
@beaglemanzzz I couldn't have said it any better. Sousaphones seem to (in my opinion/experience playing tuba) have that marching band "blasty sound" that comes from playing loud with a disregard to tone quality.

@bloodvein3 lol contras aren't for players who like a challenge. They just work better in terms of visuals and such. That's why drum corps use em. Not for the challenge but simply because they're flashier when it comes down to doing any type of visual because you can't do much with something around your body.
@supersuperguy111 i do. i marched it last year plan on doing it again next year and i plan on playing it professionally alongside my trumpet and baritone :)
