I know from my dog giving birth 2 days ago you need to help them so they can get the fluid completely out. some dogs are in such labor that they dont do it quick enough. i had to wipe most of my dogs 9 puppies plus try to save 2 at once that were not breathing i lost one of them. so see they do need the help and it stimulates breathing and pushes out the fluid. its a good thing

princess-i understand that your parents did the research but you need to do some as well. a dobie is a great dog. i used to breed them. but, they are very strong willed and powerful dogs as well as very sensitive. they are great as pup and when they mature they can be good companions.. you need to train them well and that means a commitment to the dog with your time and affection. if you cant give that to the dog you can almost count on your parents eventually giving the dog away later.

Yeah, that poor mom just wants to do her thing. The pup doesn't need to be rubbed vigorously with cotton cloth and gloves. It needs it's mom's tongue, saliva and affection. Humans can be so self-important sometimes.

They need to get the airways unblocked and be able to breath so tell me again im wrong. you should watch what a vet had to do to help a puppie by moving um up and down to force the fluid outta the lungs

We all have our personal preference. AKC show dobes are beautiful for what they are, but Euro dobes are bred for a different purpose, they adhere more closly to the original standard for temperament, working ability and structure.

the key thing is to have a dog around the kids when the dog is a puppy so it will get used to it. I am twenty now but when i was like a baby we used to have a dobe and he was totaly protective of me and such. Also its about how you train the dog. There are specialized facalities where there are people which will help you to train your dog. But be prepared to invest quite a lot of time into your dog.
