I am from Colorado and fell for a truck driver one time. He would stop by on the way "around" my town but never stayed very long. Soon, we lost touch with each other and I moved away to another state and have never heard from or seen him again. This song reminds me of this time.

I think the term "Colder weather" is not really an exuse, but a rather metaphor for the coldness he feels in his soul, that prevents him from staying too long or getting too close to her. Thats my take on it anyway.

I think the woman he is in love with has passed away but he sees her in these different women that he meets, but he can't stay with them because they are just a substitute for her. Then at the end of the song he is talking to her directly (to her ghost) and tells her that he will be with her soon (when he passes away).

Colder weather is a metaphor for the next life, spiritually he is already there, thats why he commit to anyone or anything here and has to keep moving.

This song to me is about a man who loves trucking and loves his woman but when he is with her the only thing he can think of is the open road but when hes on the road the only thing he thinks of is her so hes torn between two things he loves. that what it sound like, but some people read to far into the lyrics and say it's about drugs or the army of something but at face value it sounds like a truck driver and his woman..

I heard that this song is about his brother's crystal meth addiction. It's about his brothers struggle with his relationships because of the drug. Colder Weather refers to the crystal meth.

@hisCheeKahh To me this song is about a man who can't commit but can't let go of her either, the colder weather is an excuse (a lie) to not come back, keeping her hanging on till he's done running and ready to come back, but never does. He's got a gypsy soul and can't stay, she's a lover and wants to be with him, but he's a runner and can't stay with her even tho he needs her. I loved a man like him once, and he never quit running, people like him never change, it's in their souls!

i think its about a man whose woman died/left him before(colder weather)and now he has this great girl but leaves cause hes afraid of gettin hurt. she dies while hes gone and he regrets it. he realizes how much he loved her, cant wait to be with her again. in my other thought, the only difference was that instead of a woman before this girl, the 'colder weather' was his carrier. he chose it over her and left but regrets it when she dies and realizes he loved her. its beautiful song, but so sad!
