I'm guessing that Hogan had something to do with him not advancing further at that time and he felt he needed to leave for the NWA.

well yea, i agree with the part about him being over as a face, but considering his personalaity, his look, his size and his wrestling ability, he suited better as a heel. If you watch Bam Bam Bigelow when he returned to the then WWF back in late 1992, he kicked arse as a heel. He was just a big vicious monster squashing opponents left right and centre. I put Bam Bam Bigelow almost in the same category as big Sid Vicious; in the sence where, they both kick arse as heels and as faces totally suck
