Nice tutorial, it'll look nicer if you've got your lightsabers in a dark room. Or you could use the paint bucket to blacken it up and use history brush to make an aura around you, and then do this

use polygon tool instead of line tool. draw around the lightsaber.

I followed your directions carefully. But once I get the the part to change the white into a color, it doesn't work. You said "Control B" right? I pressed it, and nothing popped up. I was so close. No, that was just a saber I had already made, so I didn't have to make both in the video.

The main reason I can think of that stops people from finishing this tut is, your line and blurs have to be merged ona  black background that is set to screen.

Hey I'm a bit of a photoshop noob atm. When I go to draw the original rectangle with the line tool it gives me a seperate "shape layer" containing the line. How do I make sure it remains part of the screen layer?

at the top of the screen are a bunch of different rectangles. one has dots around the corners and one doesnt. just hold your mouse over and it'll say "draw as new shape layer" or something vaguely like that...

ive been using photoshop for a long freaken time, but ive been having a problem with this. everytime i go to color balance, it dosn't change the darn color. i followed this step by step, and even reinstalled the program. any iteas anyone?

You don't use Photoshop for videos. You could, but I've done it and it took like 3 hours to do 30 seconds of video.

Adobe after effects in the tool for that.

OK, this is because its doing a vector mask thing. TO fix it, go to the layers pallet, and right click the shape layer and choose rasterize, then Press Crtl+E to merge the shape layer with the black layer.

lol i remember when I used photoshop... It takes sooooooooo long compared to other ways. To apply the effects to the video, you half to convert it to filmstrip, and rotoscope every frame, which takes forever if you have a video past 3 min (for those who haven't tried this before). Try this out but don't get use to it if you plan on making lots of videos. Go for After Effects or Shake (for Mac)

Your good , but why the hell did you use the paint brush to make the tip , it takes a lot of time and you you need to be precise , i used a bit more blure and then i made the core fatter useing , RGB channel in Levels and the effect whas the same still it is good but only if your doing a single frame not if for example you need to do 6000 of them

Nice tutorial. There are quicker and easier ways of doing this but this technique is probably more useful for adding special effects and such later on such as lightsabers clashing against object, sparks, and other cool effects.
