  • Connors played in 2 Australian Opens. He won in 74 against Rosewall but lost in 75 against Newcombe. Just thought I'd correct that comment posted earlier. BTW I am a Connors follower from way back. 1973 when he won doubles at Wimbledon.

  • The way jimmy came back in 82 was amazing, come on federer you can do the same, just have the belief!!

  • What a great fighter! Always been an inspiration for me when i was a teenies. Love this video. Go jimbo!!!

  • Jimmy was the most spectacular player of the most spectacular era for tennis that ever happen. The 70 and 80´s.

From Laver and Rosewall to Becker and Edberg, with the mainstream being Mc,Borg and Jimbo and later on Lendl.

Second stringers? Vilas,Nastase,Gerulaitis,Cash... would you watch Tsonga,Ferrer,Verdasco o Davidhenko instead?

    You can´t be serious¡¡¡¡

  • The God of tennis!! In spite of Typhoon was approching to Tokyo, I went to met him. And not able to came back home! Yes, I am a enthusiast about JC!

  • In today's tennis, where the players are 2 meters high,Connors would be not even the ball boy.

  • Magnificent tennis profile

  • 1981年のwimbledonの準決勝でConnors対borgをみた時瞬時にConnorsのファンになってしまった

  • The rally with Rosewall is awesome

  • Do you guys know anything about that era of tennis? Connors, Borg and company never played the Australian Open in those days because it was at Christmas time. Connors was banned fron the French the year he had a Grand Slam bid going (all 4 majors in one year) for playing WTT. He boycotted the French for years becuase of that. Connors, Mac or Borg would have a lot more majors if they had played the Austrailian. titles speaks for itself! 109 singles titles speaks for itself!!

  • not going to lie, the 109 singles titles is unreal

  • sting - I always wondered how that worked against Connors at the French in '74. I had always thought that the French was the last major slam to allow professionals to play. All the other did so, I believe in 1969, because The Rocket had won all 4 majors in 1 calender year just before he turned pro in '61 and upon his return to the majors in '69. Your explanation is much more logical. Thanks...

  • Connors was a Grand Alam underachiever with only 8. With all those other titles even Jimbo says he could have done a lot better and the 82 Wimbledon final was more McEnroe's loss that Connors winning it

  • @kangaroosbraun Connors played in only one Aussie Open and won that.

On your comment on 82 W being more McEnroe's loss than Jimmy's win: I was there at the 82 Wimbledon final: Connors should have won in four, he was up a break in the third and ended up loosing that set in a tie-break due to some unforced errors. 2 weeks prior to that he had beaten McEnroe in straight sets at Queens.

  • bishop - Great reality check! All the pros cranked it up a couple of notches when they played Jimmy. They knew they had to or he would steamroll em' lickity-split. Like Jimmy once said; 'I hate losing more than I love winning.'

  • He was brash and arrogant. A total yank, like McEnroe

  • i always thought his swing was strange, but i guess thats cuz im young and grew up watching the current tennis. its like he doesnt snap or turn his wrist at all after his follow through

  • Soooooooo great jimbo!!!i think that supermac was unreachable for skill...but jimbo is a legend!!!

  • @cagno70

Mc and Jimmy did more for tennis in 5 years than any other player will do in 50¡¡¡

  • his backhand looks like slice

  • jajajajajajjajjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • ajaajjaajajajaja 109 tittles ajajajajajaj sampras has less than 70 jajajaajajajajja

grands slams is not the only measure jajajaja 109 titlessssssssssssssssssss you are joking

  • the best tennis player ever 109 tittles federer does not reacha de 60 titlloes jajaajajajaj he is a good player suported by the press , ajajajaja what a joke

  • sorry only 8 grand slams doesnt make him anywhere near being on of the greats. He had the misfortune to play in Borg's era

  • Don't be daft. Connors won Wimbledon twice (eight years apart), the US Open five times (on three different surfaces) and the Australian Open once, and was one of the most consistent players of all time. He won his first singles tournament in 1972, aged 19, and his 109th and last in 1989. Enough said.

  • Only 2 Wimbledons, one Australian and no french does NOT make him one of the greats. Like I said he was unfortunate to play in Borg's era

  • If Connors isn't an all-time great neither is Evonne Cawley, who never won the US Open. She had to play against Court and King, then Evert and Navratilova, who have far superior records than her.

  • Ooooh did I offend you love?

On the other hand Goolagong beat Court and Evert in her 2 wimbledon wins. She also didnt play the French for years and missed 2 whole seasons in 77 and 81 through motherhood. Of course Evert had a better record overall. Two fisted backhanders have a distinct advantage but the Goolagong backhand was a natural classic, not man-made...sorry bhut your wrong again Newmarket

  • OPPSEY! You done forgot Jimmy's 5 U.S. Opens. Shame on you!!! And had the Australian Open meant more to most of the players of that era, I'm quite certain one could add additional majors to Conners' long, prestigious list. Personally, I give the GREATEST nod to the Rocket. If he had played the majors for those 6 years he was banned, he'd of had a few more GRAND SLAMS 4 sure and at least a few more single slams here and there. But he wasn't as exciting as Jimbo! No one was, before or since.

  • If only Connors played in Federers era he would have 30+ slam titles and the same of Laver, Borg, Mac etc. Federers era along with Federer suck and very much and they sre there cause they are a bunch of rich kids, nothing else.

  • I can only say that what Conners did for tennis, at least, here in the States was unparalleled. 4 Average Joe's like myself, tennis was always considered an elites sport. One usually came from the privileged, country club pack if they played tennis and golf. Jimmy portrayed a working man's mentality and he played with an animal like abandonment. He was not, perhaps the GREATEST, but he was the most EXCITING man to watch! Conners took the sissy out of tennis with one macho grunt!

  • Le plus grand showman de l'histoire du tennis.

The most exciting tennis player of all-time.

    JIMBO FOR EVER.

  • @totaleob

I could not say it better.Tennis in the 70 and 80 was pure gold, from Laver to Edberg.

  • Big Jimbo was the best

  • No mickey mouse..pure competitor

  • Love it and love Jimmy, He's the greatest!

  • amazing!
