I agree they are both highly clever and skilled, but to say he is the best capoeirista living is to say too much. The best capoeirista depends on your definition of capoeira. if you say capoeira e uma danca, then yes maybe one of the best, but if you say capoeira e uma luta, then i don't think he has much chance, it's not how he plays. it's not his style. capoeira is a dance for those who want to dance and it is a fight for those who want to fight.
Mestre Ponciano is definitely one of my favorite Mestres to watch. I would also check out Mestre Espirro Mirim and Contra-mestre Xuxo (both from Cordao de Ouro as well) if you enjoy his videos.
is poncaninho considered the best living capoeirista or what?? i've been looking through hundreds of capoeira videos and have been unable to find anyone even close to as fluid, stylish or devilishly clever and creative as him...
He is the youngest Capoeira Mestre, and is the son of a Mestre... It must bug the older Mestres though; when they sit and ponder life's mysteries and he sits among them with less than half the same life experience.
@letebaguere: M. Poncianinho certainly doesn't consider himself the best living capoeirista. As far as I know, his respect for his teacher M. Espirro Mirim is practically boundless, although his respect for M. Suassuna seems even greater.
Check out Mestre Espiro Mirim if you want to see where M. Poncianinho got his fluidity etc. from.
For devilishness and creativity, also check out M. Cobra Mansa.
Don't get me wrong though: M. Poncianinho is great! And certainly one of the nicest living guys.
i love him too, he moves so fluid, fast, so inspiring, definately one of the best! but cobra mansa ftw... just watch the game on youtube between the two. cobra mansa got way more experience. poncianinho ist still very young (for a mestre), i'm looking forward to see him in 10 years O.o
@letebaguere He definitely is a brilliant Capoeirista. But I would also recommend Contra Mestre Cueca's videos and of course, Mestre Cobra Mansa is also brilliantly fluid and full of malandragem....
