  • awesome sound!!! Thanks for posting this great video!!

  • Welcome to IRAN

  • great video dude!

  • Heavily loaded 707s get airborne because of the curvature of the earth.

  • This B707 crashed in 2005

  • @duconducon2

    It didn't - that one was EP-SHE.

As it happens though, the one in the video (EP-SHK) had an engine explode after take-off from Ahwaz around 2008, causing it to return to the airfield. It could have been much worse and the aircraft was damaged enough not to fly again.

  • What is the name of this airport and where is it?

  • @TexasTyToon

    Mashad Airport in Iran

  • leave it to the middle east to fly a plane so outdated that it requires a second officer

  • @randomstuff5464 or better yet. leave it to iran that hates the US so much that it flies an old AMERICAN plane

  • @yamahonkawazuki IKR!? And all you see is Iran Air 747's!

  • @randomstuff5464 But Iran Air isn't owned by the government so it wouldn't matter a whole lot, if I'm wrong please correct me.

  • thats my favorite part of flying

  • Would've LOVED to have been on a Pan Am 707-320!!!

  • I'm glad to see this plane still flying but its vary close to retire. But if it douse retire I hope they save it and keep in or under something.

  • It is a great noise from all the camel jockeys running the engines. Praised be Allah and keep those turbines turning for Mohammed, that cocksucker!

  • beautiful! it sad that Aha doesn't operate 707s anymore. they retired their 707s just 2 months ago. :(

  • @RJfan aparently they have come back into service again

  • nice video of a wing.....

  • a 707???? as a commercial jetliner?? wow!!!

I saw one this weekend practicing for a Colombian Air Force show....it is a beast!!!

  • Thanks for that video !!! I love so much being aboard an airplane taking-off !!!

  • The swept wing on the 707 really hasn't anything to do with that takeoff being long; rather, has to do with it being hot more than likely and a high MGTOW...winding em up witht the brakes gets the engines spooled up.

  • awesome sound. iran is the only country in the world that uses this plane

    nice engine sound

  • Comment removed

  • There's nothing like that beautiful boom of the JT3D's bellowing their jet exhaust, heard from behind the wing. This is a rare filming angle and I would cherish seeing a few more films like this, from behind the wing. The thunderous sound of the power goes right through you.

  • Great when they rev up the engine while still on the breaks.

  • YEA AGREED!

  • Amazing that there still going no winglets i notice, i wonder if they still employ a flight engineer or would they have installed new equipment??

  • beatiful aircraft from the 60s

  • Wish I could be on a 707, love the noise. The length of the takeoff role concerns me. Keep up the good work.

  • is the engine noisy?

  • you bet it is... that is one of the reasons why it is no longer in service

  • Comment removed

  • beautiful

  • Do you see those dotted rails on the wing. I guess they are chaff/flaresdispensers cuz they are converts of tankers.

  • I don't think so, there is no room for that since the fuel tank is underneath. Most Chaff/flare dispensers are located at the tail section of a plane.

  • These "dotted rails" on the wing are VGs.

  • Those dotted rails on the wings are vortex generaters, thier function is to manage/optimize the airflow at low airspeeds/high angles of attack. They are still used on some aircraft today, and we standard on all 707's, both civilian and military. The 707 is still the most beautiful of all the passenger jets made, and I had many flights aboard them....Great video ! These are the last 707's in passenger service....

  • True, its still my favorite. I remember there were two Saudia 707s near my house in the old jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia. Anybody interested had access to it until they ripped them apart. I was so sad. I hope these babies keep flying.

  • VORTEX GENERATORS

  • Wingviews are very fun.

  • The 707 requires a very long runway for take-off and landings, this is due to the highly swept back wing, which allows it to cruise at higher speeds. Due to that factor, letting the engines power up will allow for a more rapid acceleration and an earlier, safer take-off.

  • @RyanAndBurnett read my comments, hope this helps....

  • @RyanAndBurnett Its not just that. Those old Pratts take much longer to spool up than new high bypass turbofans.

  • @RyanAndBurnett The swept back wing is part of the reason--but another part is simply that total power output at 19,000 lbs x 4 = 76,000 lbs isn't really all that much for an a/c with a gross TO weight of 336,000 lbs (compare to the 757-200ER: gross TO weight of 255,000 lbs and typically over 80,000 lbs total thrust!). An empty 707 could really kick ass on takeoff and be in the air in under 3,000 feet of runway. Its performance--like that of the JT3D-powered DC-8--suffered at high weight.

  • what year is this

    ?

  • it's not that the engines don't preduce enough power. It's just they thought this was a good way of taking of.

  • Then the controllers must be crazy. The Vicker VC10 was a fast aircraft I agree.

    Concorde, yeah ok.

  • The 707 is retired, but was a lovely plane!

It was the fastest subsonc airline. With a cruise speed of 530KTS@37,000FT.

  • Complete rubbish, the VC10 was alot faster, one came out of houston and the controllers thought it was concorde.

  • the VC-10 is a great aircraft, i love the sound, the shape ,everything about it

  • the 707 is not quite retired yet i dont believe, theres a few farfetched airlines in africa and the middle east that operate them, and a couple are in military and other use

  • There are 3 in PAX service with this airlines still going, and there are some on cargo in the third world. there is also the 707 deritives with the armed forces

  • Saha in Iran still flys them but they only have one out of five left

  • I believe its no longer flying, not sure if it's a short term thing but has'nt flown for weeks :-(

  • they still have a few left actually

  • @BA777PILOT

Well actually, Saha air put all their 707's back in service in noverber '09 acording to wiki!! So they are not retired yet! And that is very cool for aviation enthousiasts:D

  • oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE take offs! I rememeber when I was little we went always by airplane, I was very scaried of those engine souds becoming louder and louder;)

  • IRAN?

  • nice voice !

  • its called a catapult take-off

  • And modern aircraft don't use this style, anymore. They just turn the corner and, without any melodrama, just race down the runway.

  • some do. blueline do it with their MD-80S thats about the only one ive seen recently do it

  • Exactly, the Md-80 is an older aircraft. I have not seen any 737's do this, or any other aircraft of this generation.

  • whats wit the 15 second spool up with the breaks still on at the begining of the runway?

  • Was thinking that as well....

  • gives you a much quicker acceleration so you don't use up as much runway, and on the side it looks and sounds fucking AWESOME!

  • i thought these things were retired. the airline must not be able to afford newer boeings or something.

  • do they still fly those things??

  • nice video, love the engine sound

  • Could anybody tell me what the Top Speed is of a B707-320? All I ever see posted including Boeing web site is .81M. Can they run .86M or so (I'm talking straight and level flight without overheating the engs, etc., but...if they need to get all the performance out of the 707 they can). I'm sure it can't do much over .86 straight & level...which I believe is the top speed of the 757-200. While the 747-400 can fly at .92M on the level, faster than the Hotrod 57, but the 757 has all beat on climb.

  • nice video........good

  • lol in the beginning you here the noise getting bigger bigger BIGGER and i thought that it would blow it up! it's like ssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOM!

  • Right

  • What an ugly wings.....

But I love the engine sound...... :D

  • I think everyone is used to looking at supercritical wings nowadays.

  • Super Video !!

Is filming allowed on board Saha Air ???

  • The flaps give more lift and a lower stall speed. As a result the plane can get in the air more quickly and safely, and is more controllable if it needs to maneuver suddenly.

  • can someone please explain to me (as I have no clue about flying) why the flaps are down for take-off and what the consequences would be if they weren't. TiA

  • the 707 has weak engines, right?

  • Well they never fell of if that is what you ment.

  • is seruloR talking about the Pratt and Whitney JT8Ds on the 707s?

  • B707-320B Intercontinentals had PW JT3D turbofans. The JT8Ds were used on DC-9s...I know, and I think the B727 as well. The 707 turbofan had around 18.000 lbs thrust. Same engine used X 4 on the KC-135 tanker (early 707 airframe) in later versions...no water injection needed, and X 8 on the B-52H Stratofortress (still in service next to me here at Barksdale AFB...ah the sound!!!). This is also the engine used on U.S. Air Force One and Air Force Two & VIP transport before the current pair of 747s

  • JT8Ds are also used on 727, 737-100/200, MD-80

  • The thrust to weight ratio of early, turbojet powered 707s was bad, later ones like this one are not that underpowered anymore, but of course they are still unefficient, loud engines by todays standards...

  • flymajj, what 707 variant was this?

The only variant I know that's shorter than the 737-900 is the 720

  • wowowow 707?i thought these wherent in service any more..great footage!u should have showed the inside of the plane just to let us see >xD

  • Check some of my other clips from the same trip and you will see a brief shot of the interior.

  • 707 wow! the legend!+

excuse me one question, but is possible flight with 707 only in Iran today?

  • As a passenger, yes - only in Iran.

  • I once heard there was an airliner somewhere in South America that also offered 707's passenger flights but I think that stopped? Got to love the 707, her sleek lines and fantastic sound she makes, her everything!

  • Ow sorry I forgot to say that it's a lovely video! ;)

  • @flymajj

I listened it can fly in South America))

  • @fafoair They also operate 747-100 and 747SPs

  • @fafoair first plane ride i ever took was in a 707. this was in 1979. from ohare ( chicago) to KTYS in knoxville/alcoa tn

  • good vid. so beautiful, the 707!

  • The 707 didn't have very powerfull engines, the nacelles themselves are barely wide enough to provide adequate compression.

In fact bleed air had to be sourced away from the engine becuase the loss in thrust would be too great.

Turbo compressors mounted on some of these engines provide the bleed air.

No PMC's for these aircraft, full rated thrust all the way baby. Computer management at it's minimum no IRU's, IFR navigation at it's most skilled.

  • Because it was one of the first jet liners.

  • Sensational sound! This is not noise, is music!

  • One of the best sound ever! This is second to Tu-154's Soloviev D-30s

  • 707 <3333333333333333

  • hey flymajj did u survive that take off xD

  • Planes take off runway requirment is not constant. It varies depending on outside temperature and pressure, and of course, the weight of the plane.

Also, it is a boeing 707, not a modern 757 you know, they won't take off that quickly.

  • yeah this is a short field take off the plane is heavy and you can see the snow out side so its cold

  • what are you, "Friends of the Earth"? You probably drive fuelpowered cars and all. I got a Prius running on ethanolfuel.

  • ethanol fucks with the earth more than petrol does. Its why food is so expensive. Nobody is gonne give a damn about your little Prius on ethanol. The earth is headed to hell in a handbasket anyways, so you arent going to make a difference.

  • wow...you're right. And I was wrong, I didn't even remember I posted that comment, think I was in a bad mood. -_-

  • global warming is a bunch of bull shit.....seriously china had one of their coldest winters on record, and it is just an excuse made by the government so they can make all land a recreation area

  • All that is happening is a new ice age coming up and that's all, we little people are way to arrogant to think that WE change nature...

  • Right you are! But don't try telling the sheeple that...

  • May you be the first to die pollock.

  • the best engine noise ever <3

  • Shortfield Take off

kept the parking brake on with full thrust

  • is it used when the runway is short ?

  • Yes

  • thats really clever

  • I would say braking. Using the parking brakes might damage it if you know what I mean. ;) However, true statement.

  • it`s true.the only airline for civil people (passengers) is Saha, but some countries still use 707 in their air forces.

  • Love the video

  • the pioneer for the jumbo jet world

  • This if for u Nathan

  • I want to fly with this plane since I saw the first picture. But i'm now 14 years old and can't find a airlines which fly this beautiful bird.....xD

  • The only AirLine in the world which use boeing 707 is Saha Air. (Belong to iranian army)

  • awesome, the saha is the last airline to fly passenger version of the 707 ..

    thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for sharing. Last time I saw this view was 1972 and the right wing had Pan Am written on it. Love those JT3s!

  • It's a legend, first flight before more than 50 years and still flies, this airplane is wonderful. And you can see 707 in the film Airport. It must be an exciting experience to fly it

  • 707 nice

  • Love the sound!

  • This is a close as I'll ever get to flying on the 707. Thanks for posting.

  • I know some people are worried about the fuel economy of the engines on a 707, but the black smoke that comes out the back is just a water being injected into the engine. But no, I cannot say it is a very fuel efficent aircraft. But still a great plane, like most of Boeing's. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that) :)

  • you are right those old jt's are water burners, keep things COOL!cause the black smoke

  • awesome airplane

  • it kinda looks like it has more powerful engines lol

  • awesome takeoff

  • the 707 is a legend, still a few out there, mostly vip, but it does fly commercially

  • wow they still uise 707

  • That noise just gives me goosebumps WOW

  • I flew out of Kingston / Jamaica with a Lufthansa B 707 in 1975. The take off was similar to this one as i can remember.

  • Due to their previous lives as military aircraft, the 707s have spent long periods in storage or only operating sporadic military missions, so for airline transports they have a very low number of hours on their airframes, about 25,000 hours each, meaning they may fly on for some time (the average life of a jet airliner is 100,000 hours).

  • Saha Air is an airline based in Tehran, Iran. It operates domestic passenger services with three 707s and occasional cargo charters with 747s. It was established in 1990 and is wholly owned by the Iranian Air Force. Regular domestic flights include daily flights from its base at Tehran's Mehrabad airport to Mashhad, Kish Island, Assoulyeh and its aircraft also make regular appearances at Shiraz.

  • increible!!! cn que lo filmaste??? muy buen video!!!

  • listen to those engines ... fantastic

  • there are 68 still in service

  • Wow, I thought that the Boeing 707 had been put out of service, nice video thanks for it, but that airline shouldn't be using a 707 if it was used in the 1950's because the plane is probably getting old so you never know what could happen to it.

  • This actual plane was delivered new to the Iran Air Force in 1976.

A well-maintained old aircraft is as safe as a well-maintained new aircraft. The age of the plane makes no difference if it is looked after.

  • Hey! You missed the part when it gets hit by an american missle from an American navy terrorist ship illegally in iranian territorial waters!

  • it didnt get enough thrust in the begening but i liked the sound pitch

  • your an angry elf

  • Lets just say, my father has flown on more 707's than most of you, and not just Qantas ones. With staff travel he's been on BOAC, Pan Am, SAA and Saudia Boeing 707's. NO BRAKES HELD ON TAKE OFF!!!

  • Like I said in an earlier response, just because a FEW airlines didn't hold the brakes, does NOT mean they all didn't do it.

  • hmm,i thought they are all meant to with the 707? during takeoff

  • Qantas 707's (VH-EBO) were the best on the world.

  • Why do they hold the brakes during acceleration?

  • It gives a better start. Instead of having the plane rolling, while putting more throttle into the engines. It saves quite a distance. They do that with the big C5 Galaxy military transport plane too.

  • Yeah. I do that in 747s also. It just helps get the plane in the air faster, by not using up runway space while the engines are firing up. Almost all 4 engine planes usually do it. It just makes things easier.

  • the same reason that the drag race car drivers hold the front brakes, to maximize thrust at take off ( launch )

  • They hold the brakes because it's a tradition in the 707

  • ummm, no. ive worked as a steward about 707's from 1966-1979 and have NEVER experienced a take off in which the brakes are held.

  • Ummm, yes. Do some research on the 707

  • Spend 13 years as a Qantas Flight Attendant, flying on 707's AT LEAST once a week and then you will now what a 707 take off is like when your not on a second rate middle eastern airline departing from a runway that is way to short for an old Boeing.

  • Just because a few airlines didn't hold the brakes like that, doesn't mean they all didn't do it.

  • if this is a middle eastern runway, why is there snow on the ground? You twat

  • Saha air only serves the middle east, and it is in Mashad.

  • i dnt think Saha only serve the middle east. They could be coming from Canada to the middle east. How do you know this is Mashad? Why is there snow on the ground? Nd just becuase they are a middle eastern airlines or airport, doesnt mean they are a crap airline, or their airports are in disrepair. Stop being racist

  • read the info, next to the video. the poster wrote it right there. it sez it clearly. its in Mashad. and research Saha Air. middle east only =D

  • yes, but you dont have to target them just cos their middle eastern. There are loads of crap Australian airports and airlines..theres loads in every country. Easyjet, air asia, virgin blue... Your just being downright racist

  • actually, emirates, etihad and qatar are all first rate airlines. however, Saha is iranian. it flies in and out of war zones. you cant expect them to be safe, especially with 30+ year old 707's

  • hmmm, But it shouldnt matter if they look after their aeroplanes? And whats the airline got to do with the airport? And by the way, according to the Skytrax 5 star rating, Only Qatar is the only middle eastern 5 star rated airline, the rest are 4 stars along with BA, virgin etc

  • please stop badgering me. im entitled to an opinion

  • yes, and you are entitled to critism

  • excuze me but u are TOTALY WRONG

qatar airways is a 5 star rated airline but emirates is the worlds leading airlines that flies over 80 international destinations and 300 international awards

and by the way etihad is also a 5 star airline!!!!!:-)

  • in iran snow falls in winter u r soooooooooo dumb!!

  • you know not all middle eastern countries is desert. for example in Jordan,Lebanon it actually snows.

  • Hold up. it doesnt make any sense. Your 23 years old but you worked as a steward from 1966-1979... HUH? Doesnt make any sense. you should be 69 years old

  • well u half got me. i persoanlly am 23, but my father is 71. he was the flight steward, and helped my diss u losers who know nothing about 707's. next youll be saying its customary to apply reverse thurst halfway throught the roll, go bak, and do it again.

  • May I be the first one to say.....SHUT UP! you do not make any sense at all. Speak english!!!

  • virginbluedude, I've got news for you. There are many situations where the brakes are held while the engines are spooled up. for example: John Wayne airport in CA. Due to short runway and noise abatement, that's EXACTLY what the pilots do. They even get on the com and announce what's going to happen. Maybe you never had to fly a short runway, but it DOES happen.
