@hakuo142@hakuo142 with regards to the power it's important to understand that the power is generated from your LEGS. Notice the leg kick that Peter does, this transfers the power like a bullwhip. A jump smash is all about the timing of the actions. You'll need to practice a lot to get that timing just right. I'm sorry I can't really offer a whole lot more than that without seeing your jump smash.
@poopsterme if you are a lower level player it is probably not a good idea to string your racket too higher. If you are a higher level player it offers or more "true" feeling. Touch is improved around the net, and you can be certain that the hardest hitting players in the world have very tight tension. Problem is that they will break rackets a lot, but they get them for free so it's okay ;)
@doomersign depends on how good the player is. The best players are in the 26-30 range, but recreational players can probably do 22-24. What is most important is that you have a good stringer doing it for you so the racquet does not break!
@badmintonfool practice, and also try to learn your own technique of power. Some people dont like jumping as they feel they lose power, but some gain more by jumping.
@bangradee yes, you do use your index finger a little bit. You contact the shuttle with a snapping motion, and that snapping motion includes a contraction with your fingers and your forearm. It's subtle, but it's there.
Great advice, one thing I'd like to know is, when would be optimal point to make contact with the shuttle for maximum power, at the peak of the jump or on the way down. Seems you need almost perfect timing to be able to transfer all the energy from the legs to the snap.
@ngveantat definitely, you're right, you can jump smash anywhere. The back of the court is where it's the most difficult, so we showed you from there :)
what would be the difference in your smashes, both jumping and not jumping, with varying string tensions?
