Why is everyone complaining about which version is better?! Both Procol Harum's and Sarah Brightman's versions are hauntingly beautiful in their own unique ways. You simply cannot compare both versions properly, as they were arranged in different styles.

would put it in other way; a remake of a song need not represent a problem, but... unfortunately in this case something went wrong...a synergy effect was lost... a grandiose singer...a gradiose melody have not delivered the heaven one would expect. Im suspicious the man/woman who made the arrangement of this performance missed his/her goal, sense of the result or just lacked the skill to make us happy

I love Sarah Brightman....BUT the best cover of this song is definitely Annie Lennox's version. Sarah's voice is too airy in this song. Lennox's is perfect for this song. I think Sarah has a better voice for things like Phantom, but for this song you have to give a strong edge to Lennox.

I have listened to the Procol Harum version and I still prefer this version....It's not just about Sarah's voice but the depth of the music on this recording....its rich, deeper ranges, fuller. Maybe it's different than intended but its the interpretation I enjoy most.

Also, this reinterpretation is pretty different too. It lacks the desperation and loneliness of the original version. I also miss the organ very much... But I look at it positively. This song is about pain. This is a song about drug addiction. Annie Lennox among others sing this song with heartfelt sorrow, anguish, and pain. Sorry, but Sarah's version is like a Disney cover. I like the way Annie Lennox sing this song but I am truly grateful that I have fortune of having Sarah who takes song like this and put her style into in. I cant say I like every song that Sarah does but I like most of them. Having said that, Sarah is first artist who have came closest to the style that I always wanted to hear and she delivers.
