  • Loved your video. I always love your videos. You mentioned that you like to grow the celery for the tops. Well I thought you might be interested in something that I discovered lately it is called soup celery. It is a old time heirloom herb that was only grown for the green tops, no stalks. The neat thing is that it came back the next year on its own. Anyway I got it from a seed company called "Heritage Harvest seed"

  • Nice Job, today is my first day building my garden you really good !thanks for the tips

  • What do you do with the sunflowers? eat the seeds youself? or do you feed the chickens. Speaking of chickens are they free range or do you have to buy them feed too?

  • @MobyDave1583 The plan was to eat the seeds. Unfortunately the bluejays had the same plan and beat me to them. :)

The chickens are free range and pretty much feed themselves. I just tossed out a small amount of cracked corn as a treat every day and kept their water bowl filled. Very low maintenance.

  • You should start making some cooking videos using your vegetables! That would be awesome :D!!

  • What you figured out is exactly how you cook collards, more or less.

  • Can never have too many tips... I didnt know what a heirloom tomato is until a week ago, lol. "Newbie" really fits huh :P, too bad i checked my local store and could find nothing but hybrid's :( Gonna keep looking though. Would love to try those,, how u say... Polish Linguisa? seen you cutting them in one of ur vids, they look like a tomato even i would love !

  • do u have to cook the leaves or can u just pick rinse and eat it raw.

  • @swsebrownsugar1888 I do both. I love raw and cooked cabbage, celery leaves and onion greens.

  • @Praxxus55712

Thank you, now my brother is really going to call me a rabbit because i can grow my food and eat it raw all i want. mmmmm tasty :D :D :D

  • This was a great idea. I planted some garlic in a container just for the purpose of eating the greens and boy am I happy I did. I use them in omelets, sandwiches, sauces and even on pizza. Thanks again Ray.

  • Ray, I can't believe it man, you're so full of information. Is there video of you doing the dehydrating somewhere ?

  • @I3addogy I don't think I did a video on that yet. I really should because it's really easy with the cheap dehydrator I snagged at the store a couple years ago.

  • Hey farmboy...are your videos in order of happening? I love you!

  • @SGSuperhero Yep they're listed in chronological order. :)

......and on this farm he had an evil turkey. Eee Eye Eee Eye Oh crap he's after me again!!!

  • my garden is great this year and i have dryed many things from it.

  • LOL, that peacock sounds like he's screaming "Helppp, Hellllpppp" hahahaha..I'd love to have some of those but afraid my neighbors would have a fit even though they are 5 acres away...but they keep playing that loud music I might get some anyway, hehe >;-P

  • Great tips Ray! I may start planting a few green leafy veggies. I've never been a big fan of the taste of many of them but I've been on a health kick and variety is certainly a key part of that. I have a big garden but I don't have a lot of variety.

  • Hey that did not take long to get another vid up.. Check soon for peacock vid.

  • What type of Cabbage is that your growing?

  • Nuru, it's called Golden Acre and takes 2 months to mature. It's a pretty mild flavor too.

  • did you know that if you plant the tip after you cut it off the onion will grow again. I don't know how many times. but I've tried it and it works.

  • Ray , have you ever thought about a green house ?

with your local and green thumb it would be a fantasic suppliment to your great garden !

  • I always wanted a greenhouse!! I owned a small foliage indoor plant store in Denver for a couple years. That was fun. but I actually hated selling things to people I knew would just kill it. Silly but true. :)

  • send some my way I dont think I am going to get much out of my garden this year.

  • too bad you disabled your ratings cause you deserve a five star video. awesome. In calgary it even takes longer then yours for cabbage, tomatoes and every thing else this year. today we have cold weather, rain and frezzing cold wind. ARGH. every thing is green but, nothing is growing cause its too cold. :(

  • crewlla, I usually disable ratings because I have a stalker who enjoys rating the vids with one star just to make it look bad. It's petty and retarded...... but then again so is the stalker lol. :)

  • ooooooooooo a stalker. I want one too. thats no fare. :(

  • Welcome back Ray! Your garden looked so good that I wandered away halfway through to cut up some cauliflower of my own. And while i was in the kitchen your vid was still playing in the living room and I heard the "CAAA CAA!!!" from your peacocks and I froze! I was like "OMG! What is mauling my chickens and making them produce such an awful unnatural noise!!......... OOoohhhh, that's Ray's peacocks!!" hahahaha. PHEW.

  • Frozentootsiepop, that peacock scream always makes me almost crap myself because the crazy bird likes to do it within a few feet of me. Holy moses it's a wonder I'm still sane. :)

  • Hi Ray, Wow it looking very nice. thanks

  • Hi Ray, good to see you back.

Things are looking good. Got a couple of simple ideas for your spring greens (scallions - we call them) and cabbage but maybe you do this already.

Spring greens, boil some potatoes, serve up with a knob of butter and loads of chopped spring greens - delicious.

Cabbage - fry bacon bits in a pan and about half way through add chopped cabbage and saute down (you could boil the cabbage first if you wish) serve with potatoes, super.

    Best Wishes,

    Brendan

  • Baconsoda, that sounds very very similar to bubble-n-squeek, .......which I make alot of and LOVE! :)

  • That's it, the same thing.

    Brendan

  • Wow cool, I cant wait till my tomato start growing from the plant although the tomato plants leaves are turning a little yellow, do you know why this is? Am I watering to much or to little? Thanks.

  • Probably too much. If you water too little the leaves will wilt.

Either that, or there aren't enough nutrients in your soil. Also, is it getting plenty of sun? Tomatoes like lots of sun.

  • hi minneola , are your tomatoes yellowing just on the lower branches or basically all over?

  • Hey stymye,

I just went outside and checked and the yellow is only on the lower section of the plant. The yellow is appearing at the ends of the leaves, not really on the branches.

  • one thing to make sure of is to not let water splash any soil onto the lower leaves.

you can actualty trim the lower stems, it will promote better growth and allow a good airflow as the plant gets bigger.

and always try to keep the plants on the dry side more than wet. good luck with the tomatos !

  • The yellowing of the lower leaves is usually no problem at all. Just pull them off and try not to overwater. Problem solved. :)

btw, I juuuust uploaded a video about tomatoes. :)

  • hahaha loved the end, great info again ray, and yet again you make me wanna go out into the garden and just plant plant plant,. you could be a little adam there in the garden of eden, great sound effects with the peacock in the background too. thanks kimxx

  • Your garden looks amazing! I too have heard that you can get a longer season with lettuce when it gets too hot to shade it and it will grow just fine without bolting, they also have lettuces that are "slot bolt" varieties as well. I cant really garden being disabled, my husband does it (and hates it) and Im like... "if only I could"! Its so unfair! Anyway I come here and watch the things I miss doing and get my garden fix watching you. Looks great!

  • Your hubby hates gardening??? Blasphemy! lol

Next spring you should let me know what your favorite garden plant is and I'll devote a small section to growing one of whatever you choose and label it "KARStarla's section".

ps: I won't complain about weeding it and watering it. :)

  • lmao! You'd do THAT for ME? Your too cute! Yeah your right he's nuts, to hear the birds, and feel the morning sun on you is one of those beautiful moments, I miss it soooo much, and to know he hates doing what I LOVE but cant pretty much sucks, because if I could I WOULD and find great pleasure in it. So we both feel ripped off I suppose... So maybe he might grow to love it? Dont know, but Im hoping it will not feel like a chore to him in time.

In the meantime I enjoy watching your videos :)
