That musical number had to have been a little bit of a challenge for the skaters, moving from the slow tempo of "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" to the mid-tempo of "Get Away."
This was beautiful, watching skaters skate to this song and listening to it being sung! Bravo Peter Cetera, bravo, your songs will always remain a wonderful part of all the music I loved so much as a teenager and now as an adult!
@WrestlingHeretic I actually saw Peter live a few weeks ago and I will say you are definitely missing out. He has a great show and doesn't just do ballads. He did an awesome version of Stay the Night that blew me away!
It's clear that Peter Cetera was the star of Chicago, even though the band had a great amount of heart. Their sound is the most distinctive of any band, esp. for their horned instruments. Nobody could put together a piece with mostly horns and make it work like them.
@Beatlesonlyblog...I agree. Both songs are beautiful. Even though they are technically the same. This song brings back so many good memories...and Setera still has "it".
@Beatlesonlyblog From Chicago discography website: " The album version of "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" segued into a second song titled "Get Away," which was closer to the older horn-driven Chicago sound. Most adult contemporary radio stations at the time did not play the entire album track, however, choosing to cut it off just before "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" segued into "Get Away." About half the Top 40 radio stations played the longer version with "Get Away"".
Brian Boitano didn't dress for the ocassion, he's dressing as a homeless down the freeway bridge with these cheap clothes, but, he's a champion and a fine skater...!!!
@gwapongmaniac Because rock singers notoriously don't take care of their voices. Though they do get very seasoned and very experienced over long careers, the vast, vast majority of rock singers are essentially amateurs and were never trained how to properly warm up, cool down, avoid harsh substances, don't party all night after shows, get proper sleep, rehearse seriously, and generally baby their voices. Operatic singers etc. learn all of that and their best years of singing come later in life
@braden7180 your right, however, a rock singer as James Hetfield, do warm up for his voice after he has sm trouple years ago, wit both alcohol, and that he didn't warm up. however his voice is still intackt and great!
In 2000, the group (minus Cetera) had the opportunity to tell their story in an episode of VH1's Behind The Music. Cetera completely disowned the special and went so far as to not allow VH1 to use any of the songs he composed for the band, even declining to be interviewed (although stock footage of a Cetera interview does appear).

Interesting that Peter included that last part of the song, which I believe is actually called 'Hold On', and ripped off from Robert Lamm. After leaving Chicago, Peter was such a peckerhead in not letting the band use any of his stuff, no matter how popular. Then he goes and rips off Lamm. Plus, the Frank Sinatra/Tony Bennett thing totally not working for him. He was popularwith Chicago cuz of way he dressed and showed off on stage...
@eachmorning Not entirely true. First of all Cetera and David Foster wrote "Hard to Say I'm Sorry/Get Away". Secondly, Chicago has always utilized and performed Cetera songs even after he left the band. Guess they figured that most of the audience was there to hear the entire Chicago catalog- especially the many top 10 hits written by Peter Cetera.
@eachmorning If you check the credits on this Chicago CD, you will see that the second half of this song was COWRITTEN byPeter Cetera AND Robert Lamm, so he did NOT rip off Robert Lamm!
@eachmorning What are you talking about? Chicago plays his songs in every fricken concert, live DVD and album they've done since he left. Also, the tune is GET AWAY, which LAMM, Cetera and Foster wrote together.
@eachmorning Chicago has been nothing since Cetera left. I would not blame him, they still have their hits and still try to perform them; just too bad they have had a SHIT singer for the past 20 years.
@eachmorning really? find the Chicago video of "If You Leave Me Now" where PC is wearing a green satin jacket. I'm definitely a fan, but I don't see how anyone can look at that and see anything other than a big fruit.
@eachmorning Peter was popular when he was with Chicago because he had a great voice, wrote marketable ballads, circumstantially became the front-man of the band after Kath's death, was a great bass player, and maybe because of how he dressed and showed off on stage. In that order.
@RubberWilbur Except, you know, Terry Kath's guitar playing . . . and Robert Lamm and Jimmy Pankow's innovative song writing . . . or Danny Seraphine's amazing drumming skills . . .
i agree with most comments here. peters voice is still amazing after all these years. i would love to see him rejoin chicago. but thats just a pipe dream. i think its peter and steve perry that are my most favorite singers of all time. thats just my opinion. and im more of a metal guy than anything. so.. rock on peter!!
Justin Beiber and two other ones did not like this song. Excellent performance by Peter Cetera. Still has a lot of that wonderful voice from those times with Chicago.
Interesting Tidbit: Peter Cetera stumbled onto his style of sing when his jaw was broken and wired shut early in his singing career. He tried to sing with it wired shut and created the clinched style of articulation for which he is known.
@momentum942 I always was drawn to that very notable articulation myself, even in my teens...and after your post I looked into it and wiki says he got into a fight at a dodgers game in 69, wow huh...I have three young boys and as a muso myself, Cetera will be indoctrinated into them...ha ha...the music industry needs the young talent to look up to vocals such as his..so far, he has not been matched..I was quite simply blown away with this performance, and at 64 years of age..pitch perfect
Such A Beautiful Voice That He Had. Even He's Getting Older, His Voice Is Still The Same Like The Old Time. Go To Hell With Auto-Tune Artist Nowadays. He's For Real. :D
This is SPECTACULAR!!!! Three of my favorite people in one! Peter Cetera performing with a great band, plus Sasha Cohen and Brian Boitano skating on ice to this song! (I've always been in love with Sasha!) As a man not afraid to show my emotions, I believe I would have shed some tears if I were a spectator at this event ... no, I am sure I would! Very soulful music with heartfelt figure skating ... for a fan of both, there is nothing better!
@CelticthunderRules justin beiber and those other POLISHED girly-boy goons can never pull off one tenth of what cetera does. Peter Cetera is as old as dirt and his voice is still more magical and capable than any young springing 20 yr old. Taking into account my very harsh and critical opinion of music/singers, he ranks as one of the best singers who has ever walked this earth. His voice sounds like an entire choir unto itself. Anything, and i mean ANYTHING he sings sounds golden.
@cometoanend Kinda true... Just a shame about his uppity attitude and thinking he was better than the band he rose to fame with. They even share the same opinion.
Peter you are my vocal hero! 66 years old and still sounds like a gem!!! please, bury the hatchett with Pankow and the other old guys from Chicago.
