My old boy used to race his 350 Gold Star on the Isle of Man in the 50's but had absolutely NO LOVE for British bikes at all!! Get a Jap was always his advice!
These bikes need lots of work. Clutch overheats in traffic, fit and finish is poor. They have about 20 bhp.If you have the time and money to fix these short comings they can be fun to ride.
Nice ride, i miss my RE. I used it for 1 year and had to sell it as I moved to US. I think looking at your video, I will try to get a new one here :). Cheers nice video. BTW Do we have RE company dealerships in US.I was able to locate some sellers but not company dealerships.
I've loved enfields since I was a kid. They are just amazing as long as you know how to keep one running smoothly. Once i'm done messing around with sport bikes and decide to slow down in life i'll be getting one of these, The classic 500 in red most likely
that is a stunnin bike mate, if i was goin tourin you cud keep ur gs,s n harleys id take the enfield very economical and unspoilt, beutifull :) ive sent a vid responce of my bike here in the uk not an enfield but im as proud of it as you are urs ,,, keep bikin mate :)
What tyres have you put in on this bike? And what size are the tyres? I only ask because the rear tyre seems to be more inline with the rear mudguard which is a noticable on modern Enfields and was not seen on the originals. Lovely bike by the way!
love these bikes! are they ridable in mountains or interstates? im a bit over 200lbs so i was wondering how one of these 500cc bikes would handle with me in mountains or interstate or on interstates over 60mph. just looking for feedback and opinions lol. i just love these enfields!
@S00rabh im a bit over 90kg so were close to the same size i think, good thing it does well with you so im sure a 500cc bike would do well for me. do any enfields come any bigger than 500cc's or do you know? i also heard that enfields arent as reliable since their built in india now but i wouldnt know, i do know that their english design though but im told that substandard methods are used to build them now so another question is reliability...thanks!
Yes there are Enfields available more than 500 cc(650cc~700cc), but those are custom made. You will have to get 500 CC(Old model with Iron cast engine) and get it to Kolkata(INDIA) market. There are people who do this job.
I did trip of around 3500Kms and did not have one single oil leak, puncher, Chain loose. So yes these are reliable, I feel it depends on rider.
Now manufacturing process has been changed so new engines you will get are more reliable and powerful.
@dirtyjew1974 the top speed on these bikes is 85mph, although they do run out of steam after 70mph. There are two specs, the english version is the better quality and the indian version is not quite at the same build quality.
I have heard that the '11 Enfields have increased performance by moving to Fuel Injection (heartbreaking I know, but at least it's a simple system that's easy to service by the average rider so I hear) and a slight redesign of the case. Cruising speeds of 80mph are being claimed by many. Hopefully that's true...
The moral is, BUYER BEWARE quality control in the Indian factory is haphazard. The 8 factory faults on my machine is NOT unique many other machines have had their own set of faults built in to them. When this happens they are not cheap especially as now they cost $1000 more than the pre-UCE model. They DO have charisma & are fun to ride though & are easy to work on if you buy a good set of tools with an abundance of patience.
I bought a 2006 model 500 Classic new. Immediately I had to return it with only 54kms on the clock because the barrel had been machine incorrectly in the Indian factory it sprayed oil everywhere & was replaced. So was the fuel tank because it had a hand print under the gloss finish. 5 other factory faults showed up over time until the piece de resistance, A thick thrust washer left in the timing case caused the oil pump to fail and the bigend to blow. $1000 worth of parts later & still off rd
These are wonderful motorcycles...had a chance to ride one a couple of years back through southeast Ohio...fantastic sound, great feel, solid ergos. It isn't meant for top line speed, just an enjoyable backroads cruise...
I'm-a lookin to buy one of these in the next few coming years....I is in Australia and I can pick up a good G5 for about 9K
ENFIELD RIDERS!
I love the older bikes, love them, if it came before 1960 I will love it. I aint a dirt bike or sports bike person, aint looking for something to increase the size of my john thomas.. I like the look of them and they seem pretty comfy...
About how big are you, how big is the bike and would a man over 6' tall completely dwarf the bike and make it look like he's riding a clown cycle? I'm 6' 2" and having never straddled one am wondering about how roomy they are.
Thanks for the encouragement. Now the real concern is which model; 500 Deluxe, Classic or Military? Something I'll have to decide just based on esthetics alone.
RE are beautiful bikes and the classic is one of the best looking ones. I really like those mirrors and the solo seat just works perfect with the vintage vibe. Thanks for the video!
Love the Royal Enfields!!!........in a world of cookie cutter motorcycle production, the Enfields provide a bit of refreshing nostalgia in an affordable package.
I've got a bar end mirror on my '01 Bullet as well. I got a set of tan leather RE saddlebags for it recently, but I'm not mounting them 'til after the snow melts lest some critter in my garage eats them. Say hi to your dad for me. Us old farts rule!
The seat is the Premium Solo Seat (Tan) from the EnfieldMotorcycles store (although they don't list the premium on the new store yet), the "Deluxe" is listed and looks the same - I don't know how they differ.
The exhaust is the "Classic Exhaust System" also available at the EnfieldMotorcycles store.

On interstates, I don't go above 65mph.
Enfields are built for the mountains though. It's the bike of choice in the Himalayas. Search YouTube for "Royal Enfield Himalayas"
