  • so i read through mez'z arguments against the EU's democratic proccesses and it struck me that what he pointed out was the flaw in every modern day democratic system. a flaw more evident in countrys that use a first past the post voting system.

  • BTW I am anti-federalist and not anti-eu, however the democractic defecit is there and plainly evident what I can't understand is why all this need for integration and federalism, aren't we united enough?

Unfortunately the E.U. isn't that glorified pie in the sky that it's made out to be... far from it!

  • Problems of the E.U. in short:

    1. The Commission acts as both the legislative and the executive, the social strucutre isnt very different from that of the soviet union

    2. 'EU- nationalist' ideas were anti-eu citizens are disregarded (look up Vaclac Klaus's address to the EU)

    3. The E.U. parliament does not have enough power

    4. The Commission is pretty much unrestricted from enacting any laws that it likes, its a fallacy to think otherwise

We solve these, we solve the EU question

  • It saddens me to see all these anti-EU comments all over the internet. People ignorant of the EU process and alll that the EU has done for them. I just hope that the EU will resist these nationalistic forces and that we'll come out of this financial crisis even stronger and more unified.

  • LONG LIVE EUROPA!!!!!!!! greetings from england

  • The people are powerless, if they aren't tell me how you change the direction of the EU by voting, .

Scotish and welsh MP act in the house of commons, and can purpose new laws and bills, and if they purpose a law that doesnt fit with their voter, the voters change who they vote for, and the MP lose their seat.

The commission can being out what laws it wants, and not fear the loss of there seat (if this is not true tell me how voters can remove a commission).

  • @mez6117 Look, the direction the EU (as a Union) takes is controlled by more than one institution. The Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council (the head of state of each member). Each of these is staffed by elected or appointed members. The Commission can NOT enact any law it sees fit without democratic input by the institutions themselves or the acceptance of a member state. You talk as if it is a dictatorship.

  • @mez6117 And British MEPs act in the European Parliament. What is your point here? You are obviously failing to understand the process of how EU law comes into being.

Ultimately, if you disagree with membership of the EU, then vote for a British government which will remove us from it. We are free to leave.

  • @mez6117 If you're going to state that the EU is an undemocratic dictatorship, then you're going to need to justify the existence of our 'British Union' first. We have an unelected head of state. We have an unelected House of Lords. We have an unelected government in regards to Scotland/Wales, with the Conservatives coming 4th (I think) in the Scottish vote. Why are you not denouncing this and instead focussing your energy on the EU? I thought you cared for democracy?

  • @mez6117

You dont know what you are talking about. EU is MORE democratic than most nation states in the Western World. It is in fact TOO democratic since the democratic demands we make of EU would be thought to be lunacy in any other nation states. Treaties need to be accepted by every single member country and the commission effectively needs to be accepted by every country. Imagine if the president of the USA would need to be voted unanimously by every single state in the USA, pure lunacy.

  • The commission is assembled by suggestion from Nation head of states(all of which are democratically elected), then the commission needs to be accepted by the EU democractically elected parliement and the European council(represented by every country in EU).

Then anti-EU MORONS talk about unelected officials, but when somebody mentiones Robert Gates, Hillary Clinton., ministers in Icelandic and Norwegian government(all unelected by the same standard) those same morons stamp them as democratic

  • If you think its so democratic answer me this, As a voter in the EU elections if you wanted to change the direction of the EU (say to a less federal super state direction, to a more trading block direction (like the british people were told)) who would you vote for ?

  • @mez6117 No, you first answer my questions regarding your previous post. You talk of 'the EU' as if it is some sort of alien species which has landed in Europe from outer space and begun dictating its laws to us. The people are apparently powerless. European elections are apparently pointless. So who IS in power? You say we cannot change the direction of the EU. So who IS in control of the EU's direction?

  • @mez6117 After that, can you explain to me how Scottish or Welsh voters can change the direction of the UK? Explain the Scottish or Welsh positions under a Conservative government they did not vote for.

  • Jean-Claude Piris, jose barroso, Angela Merkel, blair (when he was PM), madleson, and the commissioners.

I know exactly how it works, the commissioners are pointed by there respective national leaders. That way these same national leader can introduce politicies that their people would never stand for.

Also there is a certain amount "if you support us, we will make sure you looked after" in the EU insitutes, take richard corbett, I bet if daniel hannan lost his set he wouldnt of got that job.

  • I dont like the EU, because its undemocratic and whole heartedly uninterested in what the people of the continent want.

The EU can not be changed by the peoples, there is no mechanism to do so, it doesnt matter who you vote for in the eu elections they have no say in the direction of the EU, and if a population of a state votes for leader who as a different view on the direction of the EU, it doesnt matter because 26 other nations out rule him. The EU have stacked the bases in their favour.

  • @mez6117 When you say 'The EU have stacked the bases in their favour', who EXACTLY are you talking about? Who IS 'the EU'? Who IS controlling the direction of the EU? From your comment, I'm not sure you fully understand how the EU as a set of institutions and member states functions.

  • This video seems to contradicts itself, the people of britian (and many other peoples of europe including some germans) fought and died for their freedom a democracy, and to stops a few people exerting there will up on all.

Yet you seem to support an undemocratic organisation (the eu) where a self appointed elite exerts their will on all, by lies a deceit.

  • @mez6117 I do not believe the EU is an undemocratic organisation. It's my opinion that warfare and bloodshed between European peoples has been left behind, and our peoples have built a Union based on peace, cooperation and a shared European identity. This is what I aimed to show in the video. There's no contradiction.

  • @BritishEuropean, the EU isextremely undemocratic. The whole point of democracy is that the people, can shape their future by electing people who will take them in the direction they wont to go, and if they fail to do this they can be removed or the people can decide to go in a different direction. The MEPs (who the people elect) have no say in the direction of the EU, and thus no democracy.

  • @mez6117 How is it undemocratic? Who do you think conducts the direction of the EU then? Are you aware of how the EU, as a collection of institutions, functions? Or how these institutions are appointed? Are you aware of the direct role of the member states? Also, have you compared the EU to our 'British Union'?

  • @BritishEuropean I agree with you british european. It is not undemocratic, it is too democratic. You need these MEPs, these experts to rule such a powerfull growing federation. The economists have to account for everyone in the eurozone and soon all the 27 and soon 28 members. Europe united will be amazing!

  • @BritishEuropean, the eu is a psuedo democracy, and the people of europe havent built anything. you may agree with the EU and what its doing (and thats your choice), but its just Circumstantial, as it just so happens that what the EU want. If you didnt agree (as i dont, and the majority of british people) the EU would still be going in the same direction, and britain will still be in.

  • @mez6117 If I didn't agree with the EU as an entity, I would vote for a political party in the UK that didn't favour membership, along with voting for an anti-EU MEP. As for its direction, its institutions are staffed by politicians appointed by my elected government, or those directly elected by EU citizens. If you're so certain a majority of British do not want the EU, why did a majority NOT vote for anti-EU parties in the last European election?

  • @BritishEuropean there as been quite a few survays carried out on EU membership, and results showed the majority of british people want out the EU (in fact there is footage of the BBCs poll on youtube). The conservatives try (even those they're not) to come across as anti-EU, by voting for them I think people thought they where voting for a euro sceptic party, and UKIP came 2nd. So I think people did think they had voted for euro sceptics.

  • @mez6117 Quoting surveys isn't going to cut it. The biggest and most comprehensive poll we have is the last European election. Real, tangible votes. It can be considered separate from domestic issues, and is a vote on how we wish to be represented in the EU. The majority of British people voted for parties who support EU membership, when they could have done the opposite. Most may be eurosceptic, but we're in obvious support of membership.

  • @BritishEuropean So you saying that the conservative haven't campaigned as a eurosceptic party (although their not) ?

They said that they would leave the EPP, they said they would give britain a say on the lisbon treaty, they said they would stop more power going to the EU, they said they want a loser relationship with the EU.

Conservatives (even though their not) campaigned on a euro sceptic agenda.

  • @mez6117 Most people against the EU suffer from a lack of information on the subject. I often ask why there against it and they just resort to insults or say nothing.

I admit it's not perfect but it can be change if the will of the people wants it to.

  • @mez6117 You're right mate I'm sick of all this peace, prosperity and good will towards one another, I reckon we get back to massacring each other in the tens of millions as soon as possible. Those people in the start of the video didn't know how good they had it.

  • @like2surf, what do you mean peace, prosperity and good will, have you not seen whats going on in greece, bombs, riots and violance, and that is directly due to the EU policies.

And there is more to come, italy, spain and ireland are not far behind them. Great prosperity there.

  • EACH Nation in Europe once ruled the World and imagine we are all united we could rule the World for 1000 Years ... GOD BLESS THE EU and Pro a United European Superstate

  • What a truly despicable comment. And, after reading many other comments on this page, you appear to be fairly indicative of the pro-EU people. Merely for the sake of Europe's economic survival, and not just the survival of our democracy, sovereignty, and principles etc, the EU power must be drained and returned to its rightful place within independent states where democracy holds true. An independent Europe is a free Europe.

  • The Age of independet souvereign but also poor States in Europe, in which every state follows his own foreign policy and wars comes after wars, is over now. A new era of a United European Superpower State has just begun and with our Allie the USA we are the mightiest nation on earth

  • i agree we need the uk in the EU

  • Europa caput mundi...

So soon the great people of Europe unite under one banner, Europe will be back to it´s former glory.

  • It is great video. We must all forgive each other for our sins and create strong prospering and united European Union.

  • I totally agree with you, Keiserbg, and I am delighted that these words come out from the mouth of a neighbor, we should leave behind the past and look forward, we have nothing to divide us anymore just to unite us, the common religion, culture and history and sharing the same territories for centuries shows that we deserve a better future in our relationships, the future of United Europe.

  • Europe is the cradle of Western culture, from Romans to British Empire. Now it's time for real unification, keeping traditions of every European people, creating a completly new statal entity, the strongest ever. We wont be the buffer state between USA and Asia.

  • If you're pro-EU, check out the WeAreProEU channel, group and website.

  • Beautiful video Brit. A big hug from a Brit -European in France. xx

  • Wonderful channel my friend. I am really glad to see more and more pro-EU British people, because UK is the heart of EU along with Germany and France. We need you to lead us Europeans to a better future, this will be the economic and political integration of EU.

  • So very right. So very.

  • @IbanezJoey

    Thank you for agreeing!

  • I agree we Brits are stuck in our ways. Europe is a good thing and we should become more pro euro otherwise whats the point being part of the EU?

  • MalteserGezar@

Exactly! This is the right question to ourself which every European has to make! Well said MalteserGezar!

  • I agree with EuropeanUser, however the left winged politicians in Brussels don't understand that. We need right winged reforms, or i'm never gonna fully like the EU, because they are letting in a big trojan horse to the EUROPEAN continent which is mass immigration.

  • Lax Immigration controls is a RIGHT wing policy; laissez faire etc. thus why EP's make up is heavily center right and has been for some time now.

BTW i agree, Europe is too heavily dependent on Immigration and that needs to change. We need to look seriously at offering incentives to get those people already here to have more children.

  • I feel like a European ...greats from Berlin.

I wish Europe learned from the past and we grow together, for a great future.

  • Ja, fijn! Greetings from London. J'adore la France, kocham Polske :D

  • Europe for the Europeans, all other are destroying our culture and identity, this is not racism, this is not xenophobia, think by yourself, not by others.

    Long Live Europe!

Sorry for my english, well at least i know more than 1 language.

  • every day 40000 die of hunger, and we europeans eat one burger after another.

dont you understand a human who comes from africa to europe! if we dont help the poor world we destroy our european culture of helping other humans and being friendly.

i understand your argument but think about that, too. please;)

  • I understand you but is with mass immigration that we solve their problem? NO, we are creating a problem for our children.

In 50 years they will be more than us, our culture and identity is being destroyed and this is all politicians fault. I hope right wing win soon and solve this problem or the future of Europe is very uncertain.

  • what is your sollution? kill people who come?

is our culture more valuable than human lives?

WE CREATED THE POVERTY IN AFRICA. we marched in with and destroyed there societies 100-200years ago. i hope you realize that.

now its our duty to help them, instead of letting them make our clothes for 5 cent per hour.

i cant see any right wing party who wants to help africa...

  • ??? Who said we want to kill people??? We will just deport immigrants for the good of Europe... We created poverty in Africa??? You are joking with me right??? Look Angola ex portuguese colony ANGOLA WAS RICHER THAN PORTUGAL BEFORE THE DECOLONISATION, Africa has corrupt politicians that´s why is in poverty to finish i agree that it´s our duty help them but we help them allowing mass immigration? we are just destroying Europe, Europeans 1º.

  • before we came to africa the people there lived the way they wanted.

then we came used them as slaves and destroyed big parts of their culture! i think you cannot doubt that.

yes the corrupt politicians are a big problem. BUT: our companies (mainly clothes companies) are favouring those corrupt politicians to get cheap workers!!

thats how we work to maintain poverty.

no doubt: mass immigration is no real sollution. but we rich europeans have to find another!!

  • Your opinion is the right way to the Fall of Europe.

"We must help to Africa" you say, but why? Who cares about neighbor's house, when your's is on fire?

Do you think that africans arent human, can't they build their own economy?

I tell you, they are lazy people, and they deserves the way they live.

There is no reason to help lazy people, otherwise they will seat just at your neck all the time.

"We have colonized them", well it's a matter of strength - they should have fight better)))

  • Telling about a burgers.

We HAVE WORKED for this burger, and our parents had so.

    And their parents.

Many generation of europeans has worked hardly, died in wars, epidemies, to build this sociaty, while africans, muslims and asians lived in shit.

You have to be egoistic to survive, it is a law of nature.

Feed yourself and your family, then feed your friends and neighbors, and for the strangers prepare the sword.

  • im not egoistic - i survive

my friends are not egoistic - they survive

most people are not egoistic - they survive.

if we had been egoistic all the time, there would not be any human on this planet anymore;)

  • Well said hansfredmueller! I can never understand people who are afraid of learning and evolving - they also don't know their own history. If a society is confident and open-minded, it survives. History is full of cultures which closed their eyes, minds and doors, and therefore died out, instead of learning from others, in order to improve. Any successful culture is fluid, not carved in stone - it is a living thing, not a fossil.

  • You are not talking about my society - you are talking about a small, stupid, narrow-minded group of villagers who refuse to develop or learn, and are so pathetic and inferior, that they are afraid of the world outside their door.

  • so what?why should i care?we destroy our european culture only accepting them here.

  • give me reasons and proofs

  • Which European culture are you talking about? The weird, close-minded, inbred, yokel one which is in your imagination, or the adventurous, expansive, intelligent, cosmopolitan, REAL culture, which has, throughout history, travelled the world, exported it's ideas, and absorbed new ones in orer to expand it's knowledge and influence and evolve into a living, breathing entity, instead of a clutch of flat-headed idiots grousing that everyone doesn't look like their cousin?

  • EUROPE UNITED

    From Croatia

  • Hope Croatia will be soon in EU... Turkey and Albania go to hell...

  • eurosceptics claim that if the lisbon treaty is put through europe will be on the road to becoming a facist state, well then I ask why do all the facist parties hate it so much ie the rascist British National Party.

    That tells a lot.

    Go EU.

  • but we are,as the EU,you can't mix up cultures and economyes,if there is only one country,it would suck doggy dick, maybe one day there will be a perfect solution

  • To suggest I would have ever supported Nazi Germany, when my video quite blatantly shows that I favour modern Europe to WWII-era Europe, is nonsense. You then contradict yourself, by labelling me a 'soft liberal nut'. Nazi Germany was soft and liberal, was it?

The warning of graphic images is there because the video contains images of the suffering people endured during the Holocaust.

  • Hitler a bomb did not kill Hitler

  • The British people voted to remain in the EEC, which lead to the EU. I do support a vote on membership. But the EU is not a 'United States of Europe', Britain is not adopting the euro, and there is no 'EU army'. Also, Europe has nothing to do with whether England has its own parliament or not.

  • You're wrong. The EU is meant to be united, otherwise it's reasons to be on this earth are pointless.

-"Rome wasn't built in one day."

  • this is not only future to the europe.

this is the world future .

  • Your video makes me cry a litle bit, kisses from Barcelona, Spain.

  • Loved the music.

  • The USA and the EU are continental superstates, but how can it be that the US did not suffer these kind of downfalls? Especially for leadership?

The fact the leader can be chosen from any part of their empire to represent their people is prior to a superstate, in wich the EU copied the US.

  • No, the EU is not a superstate. Anyone who says that has done no research whatsoever into how the union works.

  • A superstate is the combination of multiple state to work as one.

Reconsider what you said..."Rome wasn't built in one day."

  • It doesn't work as one.

    And I never said that.

  • The EU may not be a superstate at the moment but ought to be considered as one because it is meant to go in that way.

There has never been a new world order, it is rather a renewal of our imperialistic past.

  • The EU members vote like the states in America do, I don't see a real difference between the 2.

  • The only profit you can make in continental imperialism is in the influence of your empire to the very colonial empires who are helpless if engaged in a war with you because their troops are dismantled over their empires, that was what actually happened during the 2nd WW.

  • These kind of empires fall for many reasons, wether they have forgotten to assimilate their people, the death of a leader or of a royal bloodline divides your empire, the incapacity to influence your neighbours in wich case you are obviously weaker than them and must pay them for protection: bankruptcy occurs.

  • It is the best kind of imperialism because you can come out with prestige, you loose nothing for what concerns the heart of your empire and you come out richer.

Continental imperialism is risky, you live, from the very forging of this empire to it's downfall with the constant threat of being invaded in your own lands, there are no colonies simply because there are no distinction between your citizens wether they have been assimilated to your culture, exterminated or kicked out.

  • I came to the conclusion long ago that there are 2 known kinds of imperialism: colonial imperialism and continental imperialism.

The difference? Colonial imperialism includes 1st and 2nd class citizens, the heart of your empire is isolated by an island or by a continent in wich your neighbours are also colonial empires and who are forced to have friendly relations with you, your colonies are inhabited by a majority of 2nd class citizens, the leading class in these areas are 1st class citizens.

  • It is really interesting and really stupid to make this video for displaying europe as a sign of peace, besides, we will even have a bigger chance to have a war because we will be one nationality, one continental empire, meaning that our wars will not only be fought on some distant land but right next to us or even perhaps inside our new superpower.

  • It's really nice that at the end there are lots of explosions going off in our cities but it's to entertain people rather than kill them. I think that a lot of Europeans take peace for granted now and don't realise that we've had to suffer a hell of a lot to get where we are. And it's the EU that's got us to the point where war between Europeans isn't just abhorrent, it's impossible.

  • Elagu Euroopa! ;)

  • Excellent! Go EU, Go BritishEuropean!

  • Very nice video. Go EU!

  • Zivela Europa!!

  • From this American I have to say this was a beautiful vid.

  • Isn't it?

  • We fought many time against each other. We made many mistakes in past. But one thing im happy about. We learned from history. We learned, work together is more effective and the main we learned. We are nighbours, but living on one earth and should do the best for us and others

  • The men who lost their lives in WWII fought for peace in Europe, against a Nazi dictatorship. They were successful, and the European Union is just one of the results of their victory. It has transformed the lives of Europeans across the continent for the better. Its democratic deficit needs to be addressed, but to say that 'the EU' plans to ignore the Irish vote is absurd, when the Irish government itself hasn't said how it plans to move on with the situation.

  • What exactly are you suggesting, that the EU should be disbanded? If that's the case, let us all know how you hope to manage to convince the Irish people to go along with this, knowing full well that Ireland is one of the most pro-EU nations, and has benefited enormously from EU membership.

  • True democracy is always listening to the will of majority. Irish are 1 percent of EU population. You think You got the law to opposite to nearly 500 milion people? You call this democracy?

  • It is a powerful message I just wish it wasn't lost on so many.

  • I'm so glad I found about the song ( Rob Dougan - Clubbed To Death 2 (Kurayamino Variation By Rob Dougan) ... I wouldn't have found a better song for this video ;-) congr.cheers

  • In the future of Europe is one of wealth and cooperation.
