I'm doing this song for my school as a solo and I will put it up on Youtube once it has happened so everyone will know this generation has learned our fathers songs and listen to every word they have said that bought us here today as free as can be. God Bless everyone
I really like this song. I think it represents how the African Americans felt when segregation was around. It makes me very sad to see what colored people has been through this days/years.
This video had me in tears today after seeing how beautiful and powerful it is. It eloquently shows how our race has risen up from our problems as slaves to succeeding, finally having a black man in the White House.
Very moving song and video hard to believe people who claim to be followers of Christ could commit these atrocities against our African American brothers and sisters. You always hear the GOP tout the Founding Fathers. Its no wonder, just like the Founding Fathers were a bunch of white men who did not want anyone but them sharing in their "equality" the GOP has issue with playing fair.
We all have been in a fight for what is right, why can't we see this, why can't we see that we all have had our issues and hopes and we all have fought battles for what is right for us all and even today as I think, I wonder which of us will enjoy the glories world that the Good Lord has given us to support.
@cowardsndntapply - Struggle is what made America, it has always been the poor and the disenfranchised that have done the work worth doing, and with the aristocrats riding on their backs. Read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States".
This country IS for all the people who have had to struggle, even though the elitists have failed to recognize that that is what is meant by those first 3 words of the Constitution, "We the People".
We forget too soon and appreciate too little. Oh! how I wish everyone really cared enough to wake up and learn this magnificent song and place the meaning in their heart.

@Drewski0820 Why would you think this is a Black National Anthem?? This song tell a story and honestly I think any race can be move by this song. I trully love this song, it uplifts my spirit up
@MultiQmaster No, fuck you for not even getting to point of this comment. @hippo2525 thats because you are an idiot. there are some very talented jewish songwriters and they can make their own anthem, thank you. this is for black folks.
@persebra Sorry you feel that way. You apparently don't believe that people are capable of being united or friendly. I will pray for you. That you might find peace and happiness.
@hippo2525 what are you talking about? israel has a flag, and i think even an anthem in fact. does that mean they dont believe in unity? schools and states have anthems as well, doesnt that make them unamerican? what did langston hughes say: "they took my blues and gone" not this time, get your own.
@okcboi bullshit, you know "my country tis of thee" if the ripoff of the british national anthem. the black national anthems is based on hymns and spirituals.
@okcboi i DID listen to the british national anthem, and i have seen the SHEET MUSIC to both songs, if you understand what that is, very different. "my country tis of thee" why was the us national anthem before the star spangled banner is the ripoff of the brit anthem. why dont you take up a music class or get another hobby besides bullshitting?
@persebra the U.S. national athem is the star spangle banner idiot, why dont u listen to the british athme again, i said the words are different but the melodies sound the same. Do u know how to listen??
@okcboi TRY TO KEEP UP. FOOL! wikipedia "Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931" ... .".Before 1931, other songs served as the hymns of American officialdom. "Hail, Columbia" served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", whose melody is IDENTICAL to the British national anthem,"
@okcboi ...."Before 1931, other songs served as the hymns of American officialdom. "Hail, Columbia" served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", whose melody is identical to the British national anthem,"
""The Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931"
@okcboi try to keep up, it never hurts to do a little research, fool ..."The Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931
People's minds were in the right place when this was written. In fact, nobody ever mentions their names (James & John Johnson - the writers of this fine anthem)... instead the description of the video is ALL ABOUT "esteemed individuals" instead of GOD... and it's also all about the evil white man. Besides, if it weren't for a white man, a korean, and a German-born, you wouldn't have youtube to post this horrible video. Clean your minds of the hatered towards whites.
Negro National Anthem, proud of my people. Call me racist but being black is beautiful. We as a culture are slowly fading away. Its up to the younger generation to keep this pride and history in us forever. Marin Luther King, Malcolm X, we will carry the torch. We will not promote racism, we will promote pride and dignity. You all will forever be in are hearts.
you should add michael jackson and the whole jackson and motown family onto this cause they all broke down lots of barriors for african-americans in the music world
I agree and we should be proud and remember we are on the same side... "The Human Side". My son was murdered because of this non-sense just because he is not dark but likes black girls...why are there so many hater's of all kinds in America - of all places?
This video is so beautifully done - the music, the images, the lyrics. I have always found this anthem moving, but with the pictures it's magnified tenfold. I teach an African American elective for high school kids and I start the year and end the year with this piece. I'm brought to tears each time. Thank you!
I'm an African-American man. It's breath-taking when I watch this video. The music and images speak volumes of our nation's history and how far we have come. To conclude the video with Obama winning the election is stunning. Regardless of everyone's opinion of Obama, it is a huge accomplishment to see a Black man hold the position as "Mr. President". I salute everyone of those people who have made it possible for me to sit in a classroom with white people today.
This song has nothing to do with disliking white ppl,This song has alot to do with all the struggle ppl had to go thru to get where we are today if it wasn't 4 the ppl who were out there trying to stand up 4 what they believe & trying to get everyone to look at how we are equal this world would of still have been just as crazy as it was b4
I use to have to sing this when I was going to school even in the 90s! When I was going to school we only sung half of it not the whole thing, I guess it was too long. But it defiently unites us as black people! :)
Condalisa Rice? Colin Powell? Was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. your only Republican icon, or has the Democratic Party enslaved your mind giving you the idea that it's free. You know that the Confederacy was all Democrats and the Union was Republican. The Democrats led a war against the Republican to enslave you. Also, you're falling into Lydon Baines Johnson's plan, the white man who signed the civil rights bill. He said, "Once I get this signed I'll have every NIGGER voting Democrat."
@docterx2 If you truly believe that we are to support the very people who are now asking whether the president is born in this country and attacks every single government program that even marginally helps us, then you are not only trying to rewrite history, but it is you who is trying to brainwash us. Remember, it was Ronald Reagan who called our women, "Well-Fare Queens," and fought tooth and nail to PREVENT the creation of the Martin Luther King Holiday. Who is really trying to enslave us?
@Vulcot MMmmmm....... wow dude, thanks for the fact, I myself am black and I didn't know that Ronald Reagan ACTUALLY tried to STOP Martin Luther King, I mean I heard he was a douche while he was president, only caring about the RICH(white) people and not caring anything for ANY poor(especially black or hispanic) people, but I didn't know he tried to go THAT far, thanks for the fact, I just learned something new. :) God bless u for the truth.
AGREE! all of US can relate historically and presently to this song. It should just be our national anthem, its much more encompassing and symbolic for this nation's history than the star spangled banner...
I think the reason people are racist or prejudice is because they can't forget how they've been treated. I don't blame those people. It's hard to walk away when you're being insulted. However, holding onto that grudge does nobody any good. Every once in awhile people can be prejudice because of lack of interaction between the different races of people. What's sad is that the negative feelings are being passed down from generation to generation.
I had no idea the black people of our nation had their own anthem. I don't know if our "brown races" have one as well. I'm so sorry that we all can't just get over it and become one country, united. After all, the U.S. has always been referred to as a melting pot. Sadly, I plainly see that it's only true if our skin is white like mine. I see the suffering that still exists for most black people here, whether it's just a small amount or a volcano that wrecks lives. For all of us this must change.
As a BLACKMAN I want to know why you feel the star spangle banner sounds better than BLACK NATIONAL ATHEM? You have to remember this version is sung by a church choir thus it sounds different. I also want to know why you feel the need to combine our culture to create one USA? ( UNITED SNAKES OF AMERICA) I don't see any white people breaking their necks to combine cultures with us I feel both the star spangle banner & national athem should be changed. They are both BULLSHIT to me!
i am white and i sang this song in high school with a young beautiful black women.I am 30 now and never forgot the words to this song what a wonderful song of strength and endurance. I am greatfull every day that i was raised in a place where i could be around people of every ethnic background. I have learned so much from my dark brother. Thanks for the good memory!
Would you black shits ever get over yourselves.. black kings sold your ancestors to slave masters.. your own people sold you out and white people took advantage of it.. You segregate yourself even more with african-american propaganda.. Do you think your gonna rule the world now since obama is president??? Your revolution would be the demise of you.. white people could easilly enslave you again if you did..
@0857162569 To answer your question no! I'm glad that you tried to reiterate to us our history but as we can all see your knowledge of African American History is just as ignorant and stupid as you seem to be. The day you become Black you will understand the importance of our nations first Black President until then keep checking in on us as all you prejudice love to do with your ignorant remarks we love them!
@whitnek06 I think black people are the modern day racists.. You look at us and feel like we owe you something.. I owe you nothing.. my ancestors will rot for there deeds not me.
@0857162569 White people don't owe me anything! and how can Black people be racist? Prejudice yes but not racist we have no power to control the government, education, and etc. that is what racism is creating laws and barriers to oppress people because of ethnic background.
Why do we deal with everything except facts? The exploitation of Black Americans, and of exactly who we are as a People. Mr. Obama is a "legally acknowledged" relative (through white people-- by way of his white American mother) of Sarah Palin, the Bushes, and Dick Cheney. Mr. Obama is from SLAVE OWNER white U.S. families. Read New York Times, March 2007 "Obama Had Slaveowning Kin" - AND NOT in the ways that the Black American People are related by blood to white Americans. May God help us.
Better than the national anthem in my opinion. I identify with this one so much more. I don't identify with the national anthem at all. I think it's about how we made it inspite of the war but Idc this song definitely speaks to my heart more and more than any other song ever could. It's the most touching song I've had the pleasure of hearing.
proud 2b a black american... thank you Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcome X, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and the other Black Soldiers tht stood up 4 the riqhts of Black ppl so the nxt qeneration cud have a chance... thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! may you all R.I.P.
Anybody wanna bet that Dixie kicks the shit out of Lift every voice? Oh wait, we don't need to because Dixie does, in fact, kick the shit out of your little hymn. And I love how you refer to us all as white people.
@SonofthenewDixie Idiot, "Dixie" is a Northern song written by a Yankee from Ohio. And it doesn't come close to comparing to the beauty of Lift Every Voice. I am a Southerner by the way.
@SonofthenewDixie "dixie" is a silly like country jig and i think its origins are even from a black man. dixie is one of the worst "anthems" i have ever heard. anyway it doesnt come close to the sweep and grandeur of BNA. in both music and the sheer poetry of the lyrics one of the best songs ever created to represent a people.

@persebra Sorry you feel that way. You apparently don't believe that people are capable of being united or friendly. I will pray for you. That you might find peace and happiness.
hippo2525 5 months ago
@hippo2525 what are you talking about? israel has a flag, and i think even an anthem in fact. does that mean they dont believe in unity? schools and states have anthems as well, doesnt that make them unamerican? what did langston hughes say: "they took my blues and gone" not this time, get your own.

black national athem the way it is sung is stolen from the british national anthem, the melodies and chorus are the same just diff words
okcboi 5 months ago
@okcboi bullshit, you know "my country tis of thee" if the ripoff of the british national anthem. the black national anthems is based on hymns and spirituals.

@persebra go listen to the british national athem, the words are different but the melodies are the same.

Good montage, bad rendition of the song. It sounds like 17th century English church music.

President". I salute everyone of those people who have made it possible for me to sit in a classroom with white people today.
crunkcymbals09 8 months ago
This song has nothing to do with disliking white ppl,This song has alot to do with all the struggle ppl had to go thru to get where we are today if it wasn't 4 the ppl who were out there trying to stand up 4 what they believe & trying to get everyone to look at how we are equal this world would of still have been just as crazy as it was b4

He said, "Once I get this signed I'll have every NIGGER voting Democrat."
docterx2 9 months ago
@docterx2 If you truly believe that we are to support the very people who are now asking whether the president is born in this country and attacks every single government program that even marginally helps us, then you are not only trying to rewrite history, but it is you who is trying to brainwash us. Remember, it was Ronald Reagan who called our women, "Well-Fare Queens," and fought tooth and nail to PREVENT the creation of the Martin Luther King Holiday. Who is really trying to enslave us?
Vulcot 9 months ago
@Vulcot MMmmmm....... wow dude, thanks for the fact, I myself am black and I didn't know that Ronald Reagan ACTUALLY tried to STOP Martin Luther King, I mean I heard he was a douche while he was president, only caring about the RICH(white) people and not caring anything for ANY poor(especially black or hispanic) people, but I didn't know he tried to go THAT far, thanks for the fact, I just learned something new. :) God bless u for the truth.

For all of us this must change.
barbaramiller444 9 months ago

As a BLACKMAN I want to know why you feel the star spangle banner sounds better than BLACK NATIONAL ATHEM? You have to remember this version is sung by a church choir thus it sounds different. I also want to know why you feel the need to combine our culture to create one USA? ( UNITED SNAKES OF AMERICA) I don't see any white people breaking their necks to combine cultures with us I feel both the star spangle banner & national athem should be changed. They are both BULLSHIT to me!

0857162569 10 months ago
@0857162569 To answer your question no! I'm glad that you tried to reiterate to us our history but as we can all see your knowledge of African American History is just as ignorant and stupid as you seem to be. The day you become Black you will understand the importance of our nations first Black President until then keep checking in on us as all you prejudice love to do with your ignorant remarks we love them!
whitnek06 10 months ago
@whitnek06 I think black people are the modern day racists.. You look at us and feel like we owe you something.. I owe you nothing.. my ancestors will rot for there deeds not me.
0857162569 10 months ago

Anybody wanna bet that Dixie kicks the shit out of Lift every voice? Oh wait, we don't need to because Dixie does, in fact, kick the shit out of your little hymn. And I love how you refer to us all as white people.
SonofthenewDixie 6 months ago
@SonofthenewDixie Idiot, "Dixie" is a Northern song written by a Yankee from Ohio. And it doesn't come close to comparing to the beauty of Lift Every Voice. I am a Southerner by the way.
rhyanwood1 6 months ago 2
@SonofthenewDixie "dixie" is a silly like country jig and i think its origins are even from a black man. dixie is one of the worst "anthems" i have ever heard. anyway it doesnt come close to the sweep and grandeur of BNA. in both music and the sheer poetry of the lyrics one of the best songs ever created to represent a people.
